이 논문은 우리나라 공립학교에서 종교교육의 활성화 방안 모색을 전제로 과제와 전망을 제시하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 이 목적을 달성하기 위하여 기존의 관련 연구 자료를 검토하고 유관 전문가, 교사들의 의견을 청취하여 과제와 아울러 미래의 전망을 위한 몇가지 대안을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공립학교에서 종교교육 활성화를 위해서는 정부 내 유관부처 간, 자자체간, 종단의 협조를 통해 종교교육이 가능하도록 관련 제도의 보완과 사회 문화적인 인프라 구축이 요청된다. 둘째, 종단, 종교교육 전문가, 관련 교과담당교사, 학부모, 학생 등으로 구성된 “종교교육 자문단”을 구성하여 교육과정, 교과서, 교사교육, 현장교육 등과 관련된 자문을 구하고 반영할 수 있는 통로가 필요하다. 셋째, 학생과 교사 및 학부모, 사회 인사를 대상으로 한 다종교문화 이해 교육의 모범적 사례 공모제를 운용함으로써 종교교육의 긍정적 강화의 전기로 활용해 볼 수 있다. 넷째, 공립학교에서 종교교육이 공교육의 활성화에 기여는 물론 학교 폭력, 다문화교육 등 우리 사회와 공교육의 현안문제 해결을 하는데 근원적 치유에 도움이 될 수 있는 다양한 프로그램을 개발 운영하도록 행·재정적 지원을 할 필요가 있다. 다섯째, 공립학교에서 종교교육은 선교나 포교를 위한 방편 보다는 후세대 교육의 명분에 부합되도록 종교단체, 학교, 학부모, 학생들에게 지속적인 홍보와 교육이 필요하다. 여섯째, 공립학교에서 종교교육은 특정 종파 위주 교육 보다는 종교문화 위주의 교육이 범교과나 교과교육에서 접근 가능한 방안을 모색할 필요가 있다. Main purpose of this paper is to present the tasks and prospect of Religious Education base on formation of more activated plan in public schools in Korea. For those, I try to examined the research out put related RE, and consultant ideas from professionalist, teachers, finally provide the some ideas concerning on that. I’d like to abstract the result as follows. First, for the real activation of RE in public schools, It need to make up the systematic supplement by way of cooperation with government, municipality and religious orders. Second, it need to make up consultant organization of religious education composed with religious order, professionalist, teachers, parents, students. in order to communicate and feedback concerning the curriculum, textbook, teacher education. Third, it need to operate the public subscription for picking up model cases on multireligious education, using such system it will be contributed the positive reinforcement of religious education in public schools. Fourth, it need to support the adminstration and financially to promote not only for the religious education and also solving the problems pending around the schools such as multicultural education, violence. Fifth, it need to provide continuous information service and education to the religious order, schools, parents, students for justifying the education itself rather than taking religious education as a missionary work. Finally, it need to try to find the possible way of religious education as a religious cultural based approach than special religious sector based education.
