Vol.45 No.4

This study analyzes how sewing conditions for elastic bands on woven fabrics affect elongation. The directions of the elastic bands were vertical, horizontal, vertical and horizontal crossing, and horizontal and vertical crossing. Intervals between the elastic bands were 3.0 cm and 6.0 cm. The woven fabric was tailored for the elastic band sewing using warp, weft, and bias. Consequently, it was possible to visually confirm elongation differences according to the sewing condition of the elastic bands. A detailed examination demonstrated that the horizontal or vertical placement of elastic bands tailored in a crosswise direction produces high vertical elongation and low horizontal contraction. However, elastic bands sewed in crossing directions, regardless of warp and weft directions, resulted in both high vertical elongation and high horizontal contraction. In all cases, the more elastic bands were used, the higher the horizontal elongation. In conclusion, appropriate placements of elastic bands on woven fabric increases motion convenience.

Vol.25 No.3

The purpose of this study is to analyze the golf performance (distance, direction, biased direction and ball speed) with elastic-band resistance exercise during 8 weeks for the general golfer. For this, from February 4th, 2016 to April 8th, 2016, total 14 golfers who was exercising in S indoor golf driving range in Seoul were selected as a parent population. They were divided into 2 groups. For training group (TG), elastic-band resistance exercise was carried out. And control group (CG) carried out the existing exercise as usual. To verify the effect of this study, the program was composed of warm-up, exercise and cooling-down for 5 days per a week for 60 minutes during 8 weeks with elastic band (Thera-band and Ball Academy, USA). Trackman was used to analyze the golf performance with elastic-band resistance exercise and the average was calculated for 2 times off and on. As a result, firstly, the distance showed statistical significance after elastic-band resistance exercise during 8 weeks in the light of the effect of interaction between each population and exercise. Secondly, there was an effect of interaction between each population and exercise concerning the direction after elastic-band resistance exercise during 8 weeks. Thirdly, there was no effect of interaction between each population and exercise regarding biased direction after elastic-band resistance exercise during 8 weeks. At last, there was no effect of interaction between each population and exercise regarding head speed after elastic-band resistance exercise during 8 weeks.

The Immediate Effects of Ankle Restriction Using an Elastic Band on Ground Reaction Force during a Golf Swing

Vol.26 No.2

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the immediate effects of ankle restriction with an elastic band on ground reaction force during a golf swing. Method: There were five subjects who were teaching pros with an average golf score of 75. A force platform (9281B, Switzerland) was used. The independent variable was the presence of an elastic band. The dependent variables were three-dimensional ground reaction forces to analyze the transfer of momentum with the timing, control and coordination of the three forces. A paired t-test within subject repeated measure design was used via an SPSS 20.0. Results: Wearing an elastic band around one's ankles significantly makes shorter time differences between the moment of cross anterior / posterior forces and vertical force and median value of anterior / posterior forces during the backswing, between medial and lateral maximum and anterior / posterior force from the top of the back swing to the mid down swing, and creates an anterior / posterior maximum force. Conclusion: Wearing an elastic band around one’s ankles affects control and coordination between three dimensional forces, and anterior force power according to each phase of the golf swing. • Effects of Isometric Hip Abduction using an Elastic-band on Muscle Activation in the Gluteus Maximus, Hamstring, and Erector Spinae during Forward Bending and Return Task

        Nam-Goo Kang,Jeong-Hoon Lee,Min-Joo Ko,Won-Jeong Jeong,Sae-Il Oh,Hyo-Seong An 한국임상움직임치료학회 2021 한국임상움직임치료학회지 Vol.1 No.2

Background : Trunk bending requires coordination of the pelvis and hip joints and activation of the gluteal and lower extremity muscles. The gluteus maximus (GM) is an important muscle for trunk bending task and repeated trunk extension increases erector spinae (ES) muscle activity, and these extensors exhibit muscle activity opposite that of the gluteal muscles at a given lumbo-pelvic angle. Elastic band placed around the legs was found to increase GM muscle activity during exercise. Previous studies have compared GM, ES, and HS muscle activities during flexion movements. However, there is no study that applies elastic band during trunk forward bending and compared the activity of the GM, ES and HS muscles. Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate muscle activity in the gluteus maximus (GM), erector spinae (ES), and hamstring (HS), as well as hip joint angle during trunk forward bending in a hip abduction exercise using an elastic band. Methods Fourteen healthy women were recruited. Surface electromyographic activity was recorded from the GM, HS, and ES muscles, and hip joint angle was measured using Image J during trunk forward bending while performing a hip abduction exercise using an elastic band. Results : The hip joint angle during the forward bending movement increased significantly when an elastic band was used compared to when it was not. Muscle activity in the GM increased significantly, whereas that in the HS decreased significantly, with the elastic-band intervention. No significant change in ES muscle activity was observed with the band. Conclusions : During trunk forward bending with isometric hip abduction using an elastic band could be beneficial to promote hip joint movement and GM muscle relative to HS muscle activity.

Vol.27 No.6

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of resistance training using elastic band on anabolic hormones and functional fitness with aged women visiting Senior Welfare Center located in G City. The results show that after their participation in resistance training using elastic band, anabolic hormones (growth hormones, insulin, growth hormone factors) and functional fitness (chair squats, 2kg-dumbbell lifting, lower-trunk extensor stretching, holding hands in the back, walking 2.44m back and forth, 2-minute marching in place) indicated statistically significant difference in terms of interactive effects between the time and groups. The results imply that resistance training using elastic band did facilitate anabolic action in aged women and enhance their functional fitness. This author thinks that the findings are meaningful because they present the possibility of resistance training using elastic band to be used as a way for aged women facing reduction in muscle mass as well as muscular strength to manage their fitness effectively and improve their life quality as it allows them to maintain independency in senescence. This study, however, targeted aged women, so it failed to apply diverse training methods, exercise intensities, or exercise events. If follow-up research applies more diverse methods, intensities, and exercise evens, it will be able to reveal the effects of more diverse kinds of resistance training using elastic band.

Vol.28 No.1

In this study, we used the Elastic Band exercise as a method to prevent obesity and various diseases of middle-aged women who had little physical activity and compared the body composition, liver and blood glucose levels. The following conclusions were obtained. There was a decrease in body weight but no statistically significant difference. Body fat percentage was also decreased, showing statistically significant difference. There was a statistically significant difference the AST and the ALT. However, γ-GTP was significantly decreased but not statistically significant. The blood glucose level was in the normal range but decreased, indicating a statistically significant difference. From the above, it is suggested that Elastic Band exercise is recommended for middle-aged women because it has significant changes in body composition, liver and blood sugar. I would like to study the effect of the Elastic Band movement by studying and analyzing the movements using the elastic band.
