        The purpose of this study is to find out the current status of dental hygiene education in dental hygiene education and conservative education. The analysis of the current status of the curriculum on the ethics of dental hygiene through the homepage of each university and the analysis of the subject of the maintenance education of the dental hygienist of Korea are as follows. 1. As for the operation status of the dental hygiene education course, 5 courses (41.6%) were in the 3rd grade and 3 classes (25.0%) in the 1st grade and 2 (16.7%) were opened. 2 credits (16.7%) and 1 credit (1%) were 8.3%, 2 credits were given to 9 credits (75.0%), while 2 credits were awarded credits. And the necessity of ethical education for dental hygiene is still emphasized, research results show that there is still a shortage of credits and hours allocated to dental hygiene education at university. Therefore, it is urgent to give the number of courses or credit in the department. 2. In the case of the teachers in charge, ‘Time lecturer’ is the most responsible for the ethics education of the dental hygienist in 7 schools (58.3%), while in the case of the professors in the industry, 2 schools (16.7% There were three schools (25%). In the 12 universities in which the ethics courses for dental hygiene were established, the number of dental hygienic ethics teachers was one (100%). Efforts must be made to secure the full-time professors, to develop the dental hygiene materials, and to develop various methods of ethical education for dental hygienists. 3. From 2012 to 2016, a survey was conducted on the general academic conferences of the Korea Dental Hygienists Association, the city and city council conferences, academic societies and affiliated organizations, 1 in 2013 and 2014, 7 in 2015, and 4 in 2016. The Dental Hygienists Association of Korea proposes that the subjects related to the ethics of dental hygiene should be selected as essential common courses in line with the changing health and medical environment in the dental hygienist maintenance education in charge of clinical practice. 4. By expanding the ethical education of the dental hygienist, it is thought that the dental hygienist curriculum which can improve the quality of the dental hygienist education in Korea and mature the dental hygienist through the rational decision making ability will be settled.

        치위생 교육과정 개발을 위한 치과위생사의 직무현황 및 교육요구도 분석

        본 연구는 치과병ㆍ의원에 근무하는 치과의료 종사자 144명을 대상으로 치과위생사 업무의 수행빈도와 중요도 및 교육의 필요성을 알아봄으로써 치위생 교육과정을 개발하는 데 참고자료가 되고자 실시하였다. 분석은 PASW Statistics 18.0을 이용하였으며, 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 응답자가 생각하는 직무별 수행빈도와 업무의 중요도, 교육의 필요성 정도를 알아본 결과 수행빈도는 경영관리지원이 4.14, 예방치과처치는 3.51, 치과진료협조는 3.41, 구강보건 교육은 3.28 순을 보였다. 업무의 중요 정도 및 교육의 필요성은 경영관리지원, 치과진료협조, 예방치과처치, 구강보건 교육 순이었다. 일반적 특성에 따른 직무별 수행빈도를 살펴본 결과 변수 간 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 일반적 특성에 따른 직무별 업무의 중요도를 살펴본 결과 구강보건교육은 연령에 따라 40대(p<0.05)가, 치과진료협조는 직종에 따라 치과위생사(p<0.05)가, 경영관리지원은 여자(p< 0.05)와 치과위생사(p<0.05)가, 또한 경력이 많을수록 중요하다고하였다(p<0.05). 일반적 특성에 따른 직무별 교육의 필요성을 예방치과처치는 성별에 따라 여자(p=0.014)가, 치과진료협조는 여자(p<0.001)와, 치과위생사(p<0.001)가, 경영관리지원은 지역에 따라 서울(p<0.05)이 가장 높았다. 수행빈도와 업무의 중요도, 교육의 필요성의 관련성을 알아본 결과 업무의 중요도와 교육의 필요성이 가장 높은 관련성을 보였다. 이상의 결과 현재 임상에서는 치과위생사의 업무영역 중 경영관리지원과 치과진료협조를 중요하게 생각하고 있으며, 직무역량을 기대하고 있다. 따라서 치위생 교육과정 개발 시 경영관리 및 진료협조에 대한 업무의 과목을 적절히 안배하고 임상에서 요구하는 치과위생사가 될 수 있도록 직무능력을 표준화시켜야 할 것이다. In this study we analysed frequency and importance of tasks, and education needs of 114 people working in dental clinics to be a reference of dental hygiene curriculum development. The results are as follow: The order of performance frequency is management support, preventive dental treatment, dental treatment assistance and oral health education, and the order of importance level of tasks and education needs is management support, dental treatment assistance, preventive dental treatment and oral health education. There is no statistically significant difference of performance frequency by general characteristics. The tasks considered most important level depending on general characteristics are oral health education in age of 40s (p<0.05), dental treatment assistance in dental hygienists (p<0.05), management support in women (p<0.05), dental hygienists (p<0.05), and more experienced workers (p<0.05). The most need for Educations depending on general characteristics are oral health education in women (p< 0.05), dental treatment assistance in women (p<0.001) and dental hygienists (p<0.001), and management support in Seoul region (p<0.05). The importance of tasks and education needs have correlations. The results showed management support and dental treatment assistance are considered important in dental clinics and most needed job competency for dental hygienists.

        치과위생사의 손위생 향상 관련 행동 인지도가 치과감염관리 수행도에 미치는 영향

        Objectives: The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of perception of behavior related to hand hygiene improvement on dental infection management performance among dental hygienists. Methods: A survey was conducted among 230 dental hygienists working in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam. The collected data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis using the IBM SPSS 26.0 statistical program. Results: The findings indicated that dental hygienist s hand hygiene education showed the most significant value to the regular hand hygiene feedback(r=.736). The factors that positively influence the perception of hand hygiene-related behavior on dental infection management performance were hand hygiene education (p<.001), regular feedback on hand hygiene(p<.01), and patient’ hand hygiene requirements before contact(p<.05) appeared in order. Conclusions: The importance of hand hygiene by dental hygienists should be recognized, and basic data on the development and operation of infection control programs should be provided.

        Proposal for dementia-related curriculum development for dental hygiene degree programs in Korea

        Objectives: The objective of this study was to examine the current state of dementia-related education for dental hygiene degree programs in Korea, as well as to develop a dementia-related curriculum for dental hygiene programs suitable for the social characteristics of Korea. Methods: The study was conducted between April and November 2018. First, the current state of dementia-related education for dental hygiene programs in colleges throughout Korea and dementia-related education for other health care-related fields were investigated. Based on the initial findings, the basic content of the preliminary curriculum was constructed. Second, based on the opinion of the dementia-related curriculum development committee comprising 10 professors of dental hygiene, the operations of dementia-related courses and relevant details were constructed. Third, these operations and relevant details were assessed and revised based on focus-group interviews. Fourth, the dementia-related curriculum was developed based on the study findings and literature review. Results: The name of the course in the developed curriculum was set as "Elderly Dental Hygiene and Practicum." The course was established as a "major elective," and was offered as two units with two instructional sessions of two hours each. The learning goal for this course was acquiring the methods for understanding and managing the characteristics of the elderly. A consensus was reached regarding conducting the theoretical and practical lessons on some of the dementia-related content. The dementia-related curriculum comprised 10 "required contents" which is to be conducted over three weeks of theoretical lessons and two weeks of practical lessons. Conclusions: With the growing elderly population, the development and operation of the curriculum for geriatric oral health interventions are warranted in dental hygiene education. However, continued discussions and improvements are needed on the extent of educational content, considering various dementia-related symptoms and general geriatric systemic diseases.

      • 구강보건교육과 치위생과 홍보에 관한 조사연구

        본 연구는 구강보건교육과 치위생과에 대한 인식을 알아보고, 구강보건교육을 통한 학과홍보의 방향을 모색하여 경쟁력 있는 학과를 운영하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. 서울과 경기북부 지역의 5개 여자고등학교의 3학년에 재학중인 482명의 학생을 대상으로 설문도구를 사용하여 2001년 11월20일부터 12월3일까지 14일간 자기기입식 방법으로 조사하였다. 자료의 분석을 위해 SPSS/PC+를 이용하여 실수와 백분율, Pearson X²검증을 실시하였으며 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 치위생과에 대한 인식을 알아보면 1. 조사대상자의 62.3%가 치위생과에 대해 알고 있었으며, 37.7%가 금번 구강보건교육을 통해 알게 되었다. 2. 치위생과를 알게 된 경로는 '오늘 교육으로'(33.6%)와 '친구'(19.9%)가 가장 많았다. 3. 조사대상자의 43.7%가 치위생과에 지원의사를 나타냈으며, 지원이유는 ‘취업이 잘됨’(45.2%)과 ‘전문직업’(22.8%)이 가장 많았으며, ‘오늘 교육으로’도 20.8%를 나타냈다. 4. 치과위생사에 대한 사회적 인식은 간호사보다 좋거나 비슷하다가 91.2%이었으며, 회사원보다는 78%, 공무원보다는 63.3%, 교사보다는 56%가 좋거나 비슷하다로 나타났다. 둘째, 구강보건교육에 대한 인식을 알아보면 1. 교육자가 대학생인 것에 대해서 99.8%, 교육자료에 대해서는 98%, 교육시간에 대해서는 91%, 교육자의 태도에 대해서는 99%가 긍정적인 의사를 나타냈다. 2. 가장 기억에 남는 교육내용에 대해서는 스케일링(20.8%), 잇솔질법(20.6%), 치아미백(17.8%), 치위생과 소개(12.3%) 순으로 나타났다(P<.001). 3. 후배들에게도 구강보건교육을 하는 것에 대해서 79.4%가 찬성하였다. 이상의 결과를 정리해보면 치위생과와 구강보건교육에 대해 매우 긍정적으로 인식하고 있으며 구강보건교육이 치위생과 홍보에 많은 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 지역을 넓혀가며 계속적으로 대학생들이 직접 구강보건교육을 실시하도록 하는 것이 필요하며, 치위생과 재학생들의 학과 선택 후 만족도에 관한 후속연구가 필요하다고 생각한다. The purpose of this investigation is to find out what ordinary people know about the department of Dental Hygiene and the education for the oral health. Based on the result of the investigation and through the oral health seminar, the school can also find a way to introduce the oral health department, and it will offer the basic information to run the department effectively with students who will become competitve suppliers. The research was made by four hundred and eighty two girls who are third graders in high school in northern portion of Seoul and Kyung-Ki. Five girls high schools joined the research for fourteen days from November 20th to December 3rd, 2001. The data was obtained using self-administering questionnaires. To analyze the result of the research, I found out the actual number, the percentage, and Pearson x by using SPSS/PC+. The following is the result of the research. First, how much do people know about the Dep. of Dental Hygiene. 1. 62.3% of the students knew about the study of Dental Hygiene, and 37.7% of the students got to know about it through the oral health seminar. 2. 33.6% of the students answered that they got to know about the study of Dental Hygiene through the oral health seminar. 3. 43.7% of the students wanted to pick the dep. of Dental Hygiene for their college major, and 68% of their reason was because they could get a job easily and become professional. 22.8% of 45.2% students answered that they would apply for it because of the knowledge they gained about the department through the seminar. 4. The students thought that being a oral hygienist is 91.2% better than or equal to being a nurse and 78% better than being a company employee. They also thought that it is 63.3% better than a public servant and 56% better than or equal to a teacher. Second, how much do people know about the oral health seminar? 1. 99.8% of the students thought that it is good to have the college students as their educators, and 98% of them had positive reaction toward the education materials. 91% of them thought that the length of seminar was appropriate, and 99% of them thought that the educators' attitude was passionate. 2. In the investigation on the most interesting contents of oral hygiene instruction, 20.8% of the subjects responded the instruction on scaling and 20.6% answered the toothbrushing method. The education the tooth whitening and the instruction of dep. of dental hygiene is 17.8% and 12.3% respectively. 3. 79.4% of the students approved that the younger students also have get the education about the oral health. As discussed above, the students considered the oral hygiene and the oral health seminar very positively. It also seems that the seminar was effective to introduce the department of oral hygiene. So it is essential for the college students to keep educating more and more high school students. Further on, it is also important to investigate how much the students satisfy after they choose to major the oral hygiene.

        국내 의료보건계열 신설동향과 치위생(학)과 추이에 관한 연구

        Objectives : This review suggests prospect of educational institutions through research on the establishment trend of Korean dental hygiene programs by comparison with health science programs, analysis based on location and year. Methods : For the research, 78 dental hygiene programs, 11 dental colleges, 144 nursing programs, 41 medicine programs, 38 radiology programs, 49 optometry programs, 39 biomedical laboratory science programs, 65 physical therapy programs, 48 occupational therapy programs were analyzed using SPSS 12.0v. The result is as follows. Results : Establishment trend of dentistry-related programs and dental hygiene programs is twice as high as nursing programs and medicine-related programs. Number of 3-year dental hygiene programs is twice as high as 4-year dental hygiene programs. Entrance quota of 3-year dental hygiene programs is four time higher than 4-year programs. On regional basis, number of dental hygiene programs is the highest in Gyeonggi-do by 9 while it is the lowest in Incheon-si and Jeju-do by 1. Number of students in dental hygiene programs is the highest in Gyeonggi-do by 2,514. Establishment of dental hygiene programs showed the biggest increasing trend in Gyeonggi-do and Jeju-do from 1995 to 1999; and in Gangwon-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, Jeollabuk-do, Jeollanam-do from 2005 to 2010. Conclusions : Assurance of legal rights in the workplace and improvement of educational environment should take prudence over establishment of dental hygiene programs in order to develop professionalism among students in dental hygiene.

        치위생(학)과의 맨눈해부학 교육 현황과 운영방안

        해부학은 치과위생사에게 필수적으로 요구되는 학문이며, 치위생학의 학문 체계 정립을 위해서는 치과위생사의 핵심 역량과 관련이 있는 기초치위생 분야에 대한 연구도 소홀히 할 수 없다. 본 연구는 치위생(학)과에서 운영하는 맨눈해부학 관련 교과목의 현황을 살펴보고 교육 방향에 대하여 제안하고자 수행하였다. 본 연구는 전국 82개 치위생(학)과와 대한치과위생사협회에서 제공한 자료를 바탕으로 해부학 관련 교과목의 개설 현황을 분석하였으며, 해부학 담당 교수 중 21명 (25.6%)을 대상으로 설문조사를 시행하였다. 해부학 교과목의 개설 및 운영현황, 담당 교수자의 일반적 특성과 교과목 운영에 대한 요구도 등을 파악하기 위하여 구조화된 설문지를 이용하였고, 해부학 교과목의 운영현황을 제외한 모든 자료는 SPSS 20.0 프로그램 (SPSS Inc.)을 이용하여 분석하였다. 전국 치위생(학)과의 해부학 교과목 개설 학기는 1학년 2학기가 56.2%, 개설명은 구강해부학이 45.3%로 가장 높은 비중을 차지했다. 설문에 참여한 해부학 담당 교수의 일반적 특성은 치과위생사 면허 소지자의 비율이 85.0%로 가장 높았다. 해부학 실습의 운영 방법은 모형, 드로잉, 시청각자료의 활용 순으로 나타났으며, 외부 실습을 진행하는 기관은 조사 대상 가운데 절반에도 미치지 못하였다. 치위생(학)과의 해부학 교육에 대하여 대부분 임상 교과목과의 통합교육과 사람시신 (cadaver) 실습, 교육매체의 개발, 용어의 통일화가 필요하다는 의견을 제시하였다. 해부학 교육의 개선을 위해서는 교육 내용의 표준화, 실습의 체계화와 더불어 장기적인 발전방안이 요구된다. 본 연구를 통하여 치위생 해부학 교육의 질적 향상과 전공영역의 확립을 통한 치과위생사의 전문직화에 기여할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다. Anatomy is an essential subject for dental hygienists. As such, in order to form academic systems for dental hygiene program, we cannot ignore research related to basic dental hygiene, which is related to the main competency of a dental hygienist. This research focused on the operation status of the curriculum related to gross anatomy of the head and neck led by the department of dental hygiene and was performed in order to propose a new direction regarding academics. This research analyzed the offering status of the anatomy curriculum using shared information, released by both the Association of Korean Dental Hygienist and the homepage website of the national dental hygiene, as a foundation. In addition, we conducted a survey of 21 (25.6%) professors out of 82 dental hygiene institutions in the nation. The fill-in survey was composed in order to obtain knowledge on each department’s offering and operation system of the anatomy curriculum, general characteristics of professor and demand for the anatomy education. The SPSS 20.0 Program was used to analyze all of the materials with the exception of operation statuses of anatomic curriculums constructed via open questions. Nationally, the subject related to the gross anatomy was opened in Semester 2 during the first year 56.2% of the time, and the oral anatomy class recorded the highest percentage of 45.3%. The general trend of the professors who participated in this research was the highest recording of 85.0% for holders of dental hygiene license. Those who acquired doctoral degrees were found to be 17 individuals (85.0%) and 45.0% majored in health science. The operation methods of anatomic practices were revealed to be models, drawings, and audiovisuals while external practices failed to meet even the half-point of the study. The consensus opinion has indicated the need for a integrated education with clinical subjects, cadaver practices, developments of educational media, and standardization of anatomic terminology. Standardization of educational contents and systemization of practices are necessary for the improvement of anatomic studies of students studying dental hygiene. Cultivating anatomy specialists and sharing activities between academia are required for long-term development. We expect this research to contribute to overall quality improvement and the dental hygiene profession through the establishment of majors.

        Analysis of liberal arts education based on NCS and K-CESA in dental hygiene

        Objectives: This literature review seeks to identify the current status of the liberal arts education of dental hygiene majors offered by universities in Korea and the U.S. and provide a comparative analysis of the data on liberal arts education in both countries. Methods: From April 3, 2017 to May 1, 2017, research data on curriculum topics were collected from 60 selected universities. The data were collected from university websites, which also provided the universities' emails and dental hygiene major descriptions. We calculated the descriptive statistics of the variables and performed independent t-tests on the data. Results: In all the domains of the NCS and K-CESA, the dental hygiene major currently offers courses on language and communication and general education, focusing on self-management and development. Few universities offer subjects from other disciplines. Conclusions: Pro-actively exploring strategies is a prerequisite to the systematic operation of standardized dental hygiene education. It is imperative to conduct research consistently on relevant topics, such as teaching methods, general education standards, and connectivity between major subjects and the goals and effects of exposure to a general education.

        The effects of CPR education on CPR knowledge and self-efficacy for dental hygiene students from different regions

        Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the knowledge and self-efficacy of dental hygiene students after cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) education. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 260 dental hygiene students in the period between 5 November 2015 and 30 December 2015. The data analysis was performed by SPSS win 22.0 program for frequency analysis, chi-square analysis, and dichotomies multiple response analysis. Results: Self-efficacy and knowledge increased after CPR education. Most of the dental hygiene students are statistically significant difference in self-efficacy depending on CPR knowledge. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, we suggest that the theory and practice of CPR, if taught to dental hygiene students, will boost their self-efficacy, and enable them to perform it correctly when faced with and emergency situation.
