        Field test investigation and numerical analysis of ballasted track under moving locomotive

        This paper is devoted to investigating of dynamic behavior of a ballasted railway track by field tests and numerical analyses. In this regard, at first in a field test program, two different sections in a ballasted track including concrete and wooden sleepers with good quality are selected and their dynamic vertical deflections are measured due to moving locomotive. In continuation, the numerical model of vehicle track interaction is developed and its results are verified using the measured values in the field tests and the previous research studies. Finally, using the verified model, a series of sensitivity analyses are accomplished on effecting parameters including sleeper type and track modulus. Results indicate that the dynamic behavior of the ballasted track under moving locomotive is linear with concrete sleepers while non-linear with wooden sleepers.

        도시철도 콘크리트궤도 목침목 분기기의 손상현황

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the damage status of wood sleepers on concrete track of urban transit at different locations and to analyze the causes of damages. In addition, the turnout maintenance history during the service period of about 24 years was analyzed in conjunction with the train passing tonnage and that was to compare the current repair history. The most frequent damage components were rail, tie plate, spike and wooden sleeper. And, the damage caused by the defect of the rail fastening system such as spike and tie plate according to the deformation of the wooden sleeper was analyzed as the main type of damage. As a result, the damage of track components of turnout system was on the increase because they are directly affected by the train passing tonnage. The supplementary points of the check sheet for current turnout maintenance were derived and the improvement proposal was suggested based on the research results. 본 연구는 현장조사를 바탕으로 도시철도 콘크리트궤도 목침목 분기기의 손상현황을 조사하고, 손상유형별 원인을 분석하였다. 또한 약 24년간의 분기기 유지관리이력을 열차 통과톤수와 연계하여 분석하고 현재까지 수행되어온 보수내용을 분석하였다. 손상빈도가 높은 분기기 궤도구성품은 레일, 타이플레이트, 나사스파이크, 목침목 순으로 나타났다. 또한 목침목의 변형에 따른 나사스파이크와 타이플레이트의 고정상태 불량에서 기인된 손상이 주요 손상유형으로 분석되었다. 연구결과, 분기기 궤도구성품의 손상 물량은 통과톤수에 직접적인 영향을 받아 증가추세에 있는 것으로 분석되었으며, 현행 분기기 유지관리를 위한 점검 시트의 보완점을 도출하여 개선 안을 제시하였다.

        A comparison between the dynamic and static stiffness of ballasted track: A field study

        Rail support modulus is an important parameter for analysis and design of ballasted railway tracks. One of the challenges in track stiffness assessment is its dynamic nature under the moving trains which differs it from the case of standing trains. So the present study is allocated to establish a relation between the dynamic and static stiffness of ballasted tracks via field measurements. In this regard, two different sites of ballasted tracks with wooden and concrete sleepers were selected and the static and dynamic stiffness were measured based on Talbot - Wasiutynski method. In this matter, the selected tracks were loaded by two heavy and light car bodies for standing and moving conditions and consequently the deflection basins were evaluated in both sites. Knowing the deflection basins respect to light and heavy loading conditions, both of static and dynamic stiffness values were extracted. Finally two definite relations were obtained for ballasted tracks with wooded and concrete sleepers.
