        발암인자 노출감시를 위한 CAREX <CARcinogen EXposure, CAREX> 프로그램 고찰; 한계점과 활용 방안

        Objectives: We reviewed the CAREX (CARcinogen EXposure) program designed to estimate the prevalence of occupational exposure to carcinogens and summarized the advantages and limitations of this program. Methods: All literature, including reports on CAREX and the use of CAREX, were reviewed. The keyword search term was CAREX. Additional articles were identified from references cited in articles and reviewed. Results: An exposure information system, CAREX was developed based on data from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health of Finland and from the US. CAREX has been applied in several countries, including in the EU, in order to estimate national exposure patterns to carcinogens. The initial exposure assessment carried out through CAREX was aimed at estimating exposures over the period of 1990-1993. To estimate the number of workers exposed to carcinogens by using CAREX, reference exposure prevalence from Finland and the United States was computed, which was then reviewed and corrected by national experts. Finally the overall number of workers exposed to carcinogens can be estimated. We found that CAREX has been used in a total of 18 countries. No Asian country has used CAREX. Conclusions: CAREX can be applied not only to estimate the number of workers exposed to carcinogens in Korea, but also to identify high-risk industries with workers most exposed to carcinogens.

        Genome size estimation of 43 Korean Carex

        The genome size is defined as the amount of DNA in an unreplicated gametic chromosome complement and is expressed as the 1C value. It is a fundamental parameter of organisms that is useful for studies of the genome, as well as biodiversity and conservation. The genome sizes of Korean plants, including Carex (Cyperaceae), have been poorly reported. In this study, we report the genome sizes of 43 species and infraspecific taxa of Korean Carex using flow cytometry, and these results represent about 24.4% of the Carex species and infraspecific taxa distributed on the Korean peninsula. The Plant DNA C-Value Database (release 7.1) updated with and now including our data (a total of 372 Carex accessions) shows that the average genome size of members of the Carex species is 0.47 pg (1C), and the largest genome (C. cuspidate Bertol.; 1C = 1.64 pg) is 8.2 times larger than the smallest (C. brownii Tuck., C. kobomugi Ohwi, C. nubigena D. Don ex Tilloch & Taylor, and C. paxii Kük; 1C = 0.20 pg). The large genomes are frequently found in the subgen. Carex, especially in sect. Aulocystis, sect. Digitatae, sect. Glaucae, sect. Paniceae, and sect. Siderostictae. Our data updates the current understanding of genome sizes in Carex. This will serve as the basis for understanding the phylogeny and evolution of Carex and will be especially useful for future genome studies.

        Chromosome number report of three Carex sect. Mitratae taxa (Cyperaceae) in Korea

        We report meiotic chromosome numbers of three taxa in Carex sect. Mitratae in Korea: Carex breviculmis R. Br. (n = 32 , 33 , 34 ), C. polyschoena H. Lév. & Vaniot (n = 37 38 ), and C. sabynensis Less. ex Kunth (n = 27 ). Section Mitratae is one of the most species-rich Asian groups in Carex, comprising approximately 45–80 taxa. Twenty-seven of these occur in Korea, and they are some of the most challenging taxa to identify due to their obscure and inconspicuous diagnostic characters. Including the counts reported here, half of the native Korean sect. Mitratae chromosome numbers have been documented. Their haploid chromosome num- bers range from n = 10 to n = 40, and many exhibit variations in the numbers counted within a taxon. These variations, along with the overall significant variation in sect. Mitratae, suggest that dynamic chromosome activity may be related to the high species diversity of Carex.

        여러 자생식물의 내염성 정도 구명

        본 실험에서는 염토지대에 조경용 식재로 사용이 가능한지 알아보기 위해 여러 과에 속하는 자생식물의 염 스트레스에 대한 내염성 정도를 조사하였다. NaCl의 처리에 따른 식물의 생육반응과 이온흡수 특성도 파악하여, 여러 식물에 대한 내성 정도를 구명하고자 하였다. 실험재료로 노랑꽃창포, 밀사초, 여우꼬리사초, 줄사초, 홍노줄사초, 애기부들, 바위 및 땅채송화 등을 이용하였다. 염농도는 0, 100, 200, 300mM로 처리해 주었다. 처리 4주 후 지상부 및 뿌리의 생체중·건물 중, 엽내 무기이온 함량 등을 조사하였다. 줄사초, 왕밀사초, 여우꼬리사초, 노랑꽃창포 등은 NaCl 200mM의 고농도에서도 잘 견디는 초종으로 판단되었다. 홍노줄사초, 애기부들 등은 지하부 생육이 NaCl 100mM의 농도에서 저하되어, 지상부다 뿌리가 민감하게 반응하는 것으로 나타났다. 홍노줄사초는 K의 흡수량이 감소되었고, Na/K의 비율은 300mM의 농도에서 3으로 다른 종보다 높은 경향을 보였다. 애기부들은 NaCl의 농도가 증가됨에 따라 K, Ca, Mg의 흡수량이 일시 증가하다가 200mM의 농도부터 감소하는 경향을 보였고, Na/K의 비율은 300mM의 농도에서 0.8로 조사되었다. 땅채송화 및 바위채송화 등도 NaCl 100~200mM의 범위에서 지상부 및 지하부의 생육이 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 바위채송화는 NaCl의 농도가 증가됨에 따라 K, Ca, Mg의 흡수량이 일시 증가하다가 200mM의 농도부터 감소하는 경향을 보였고, 땅채송화는 염농도에 따라 흡수량이 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 나타났다. Na/K의 비율은 300mM의 농도에서 모두 1로 조사되었다. 그러므로, 여우꼬리사초, 왕밀사초, 줄사초, 노랑꽃창포 등은 식물의 생육 및 이온흡수 특성을 고려할 때 NaCl 200mM의 고농도에서도 잘 견디는 초종으로 판단되었고, 특히 사초과 식물들의 내염성이 검증되어 앞으로 많이 활용될 수 있으리라 사료되었다. 홍노줄사초, 애기부들, 바위채송화, 땅채송화 등은 NaCl 100mM의 농도에서도 뿌리의 생육이 저하되었으며, 염처리에 따른 잎의 이온흡수특성은 뚜렷한 경향을 보이지 않았다. This study was carried out to investigate the plant growth and ion absorbance balance of various native plants affected by the NaCl concentration (0, 100, 200, 300 mM). Carex blepharicarpa, Carex lenta, Carex matsumarae, Carex sendaica, Iris pseudacorus L., Sedum oryzifolium Makino, Sedum polytrichoides Hemsl., and Typha angustifolia L. were used in this experiment. Carex blepharicarpa, Carex lenta, Carex matsumarae, and Iris pseudacorus L. were tolerant of salinity at the NaCl concentration of 200 mM. The root growth of Carex sendaica and Typha angustifolia L. was suppressed at the NaCl concentration of 100 mM, expecially the root growth responded more sensitively than the upper growth to salinity. The K absorbance of Carex sendaica decreased according to the NaCl application, and the Na/K rate value was 3 at the NaCl concentration of 300 mM. The K, Ca, and Mg absorbance of Typha angustifolia L. decreased at the NaCl concentration of 200~300 mM, and the Na/K rate value was 0.8 at the NaCl concentration of 300 mM. The plant growth of Sedum oryzifolium Makino and Sedum polytrichoides Hemsl. was suppressed at the NaCl concentration of 100~200 mM. The K, Ca, and Mg absorbance of Sedum oryzifolium Makino decreased at the NaCl concentration of 200~300 mM, and Sedum polytrichoides Hemsl. was unaffected by the NaCl application. The Na/K value was 1 in both plants. Therefore, Carex blepharicarpa, Carex lenta, Carex matsumarae, and Iris pseudacorus L. were tolerant plants of salinity at the NaCl concentration of 200 mM considering the plant growth and ion absorbance balance. Especially, the Carex plants were expected to expanding use by the proven tolerance of salinity. The root growth of Carex sendaica, Sedum oryzifolium Makino, Sedum polytrichoides Hemsl., and Typha angustifolia L., was suppressed at the NaCl concentration of 100 mM, but there was no distinct tendency of ion absorbance in leaves according to the NaCl application.

        사초속 청사초절(사초과)의 한국 미기록종: 큰청사초(Carex chungii Z. P. Wang), 바늘청사초(Carex tsushimensis (Ohwi) Ohwi), 흰밀사초(Carex multifolia Ohwi)

        Three unrecorded species, Carex chungii Z. P. Wang, C. tsushimensis (Ohwi) Ohwi, C. multifolia Ohwi were found in Korea. C. chungii Z. P. Wang was found in Is. Wan and Is. Geogeum, Jeollanam-do and Namhae, Gyeongsangnam-do. This species is distinguished from C. leuchoclora Bunge by achenes constricted above in the middle. C. tsushimensis (Ohwi) Ohwi was found in Is. Gageo, Sinan, Jeollanam-do. This species is distinguished from C. conica Boott by pistillate scales with a long arista. C. multifolia Ohwi was found in Haenam, Jeollanam-do. This species is distinguished from C. sachalinensis var. sikokiana (Franch. & Sav.) Ohwi by caespitose and leaf of light gray. We provide here their description, illustration, photographs and the key of related species. 한국 미기록종인 큰청사초(Carex chungii Z. P. Wang), 바늘청사초(C. tsushimensis (Ohwi) Ohwi), 흰밀사초(C. multifolia Ohwi)의 사초속 청사초절 3분류군이 발견되었다. 큰청사초(C. chungii Z. P. Wang)는 전라남도 완도, 거금도와 경상남도 남해에서 발견하였다. 청사초(C. leuchoclora Bunge)와 유사하나 수과의 중륵이 수축하여 뚜렷이 구분된다. 바늘청사초(C. tsushimensis (Ohwi) Ohwi)는 전라남도 신안군 가거도에서 발견되었으며, 애기사초(C. conica Boott)와 유사하나 암꽃인편에 현저하게 긴 까락으로 구분된다. 흰밀사초(C. multifolia Ohwi)는 전라남도 해남군 송지면 땅끝마을에서 발견되었으며, 녹빛실사초(C. sachalinensis var. sikokiana (Franch. & Sav.) Ohwi)와 유사하나 총생하며 잎이 분백색인 특징으로 구분된다. 미기록 3분류군에 대한 기재, 도해, 사진 및 근연종과의 차이점을 검색표로 제시하였다.

        한국 사초속(사초과)의 미기록 식물: 긴화살사초

        An unrecorded species, Carex benkei T. Shimizu, was found in Is. Jaewondo, Jaewon-ri, Imjamyeon, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do and Dongbaik-dongsan, Seonheul-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, Is. Jeju-do, South Korea. C. benkei is closely related to C. transversa Boott and C. brownii Tuck., and C. benkei is distingushied from the pistillate scales length, excluding the awn, similar to the achene and the beak of the achene with an annular appendage. A new Korean name, ‘Gin-Hwa-Sal-Sa-Cho’, was given based on its long pistillate scales excluding the awn compared with Carex transversa Boott. We provide here its redescription, illustrations, photographs, and a key to species of the sect. Confertiflorae Franch. ex Ohwi. 국내 미기록 식물인 긴화살사초(Carex benkei T. Shimizu)를 전라남도 신안군 임자면 재원리 재원도와 제주도 제주시 조천읍 선흘리 동백동산에서 확인하였다. 긴화살사초는 화살사초(Carex transversa Boott)와 흰꼬리사초(Carex brownii Tuck.)의 근연종으로, 까락을 제외한 자인편의 길이가 과낭의 길이와 거의 유사하며, 수과에 연결된 부리에 고리모양의 부속체가 있는 특징으로 구분된다. 새로운 국명은 화살사초에 비해 까락을 제외한 자인편의 길이가 긴 특징에 따라 ‘긴화살사초’로 하였고, 이에 대한 기재, 도해, 사진 및 흰꼬리사초절 분류군과의 검색표를 제시하였다.

        Chromosome numbers of Carex section Siderostictae from Korea populations (Cyperaceae)

        We report somatic chromosome numbers 2n = 12 for three Carex sect. Siderostictae Franch. ex Ohwi (Cyperaceae) from Korean populations: Carex ciliatomarginata Nakai, C. okamotoi Ohwi, and C. siderosticta Hance. This study is the first chromosome number report for the species C. ciliatomarginata from Korean populations. As found in other Carex species, all the chromosomes examined in the section exhibit nonlocalized centromere (polycentric or holocentric) and large (more than ca. 1 μm long) chromosomes. Considering the basal phylogenetic position of the section in tribe Cariceae Pax, small numbers of large chromosomes have been hypothesized as primitive characters in Cariceae, and our observation supports the hypothesis. Further investigations of chromosomes in Carex are needed for a better understanding of species richness in the genus.

        Chromosome numbers of eight Carex taxa in Korea (Cyperaceae)

        In the flora of Korea, Carex L. is one of the most species-rich genera. Among nearly 157 Carex taxa, less than 30 have had chromosome numbers reported. We report the meiotic chromosome numbers of eight Carex taxa from Korean populations, which include the first count for C. accrescens Ohwi (n = 37II) and the first chromosome investigations of Korea populations for three taxa: C. bostrychostigma Maxim. (n = 22II), C. lanceolata Boott (n = 36II), and C. paxii Kük. (n = 38II). In most species, chromosome counts observed in the study are included in the variation ranges of previous chromosome numbers. However, C. bostrychostigma Maxim. (n = 22II) and C. planiculmis Kom. (n = 29II) are assigned new chromosome numbers. Carex is known to have holocentric chromosomes, lacking visible primary constrictions and exhibiting great variance in its chromosome number. Further investigations of the diversity of Carex chromosomes will provide basic information with which to understand the high species diversity of the genus.

        Report on the chromosome numbers of four Carex taxa in Korea (Cyperaceae)

        We report the meiotic chromosome numbers of four Carex taxa from Korean populations. Three are the first reports made on taxa from Korean populations: Carex appendiculata (Trautv. & C. A. Mey.) Kük. (n = 27 ), C. fernaldiana H. Lév. & Vaniot (n = 33 ), and C. metallica H.Lév. (n=15 ). Reports on the other species expand the range of variation in the chromosome number within a taxon, C. miyabei Franch. (n = 43 , 44 , 45 ). Carex L. (Cyperaceae) consists of more than 2,000 species worldwide and is the most species-rich genus in Korea. The species diversity in the genus has been hypothesized to be associated with the chromosome variation, but chromosome information pertaining to Korean Carex taxa is not well known. This report updates the chromosome number inventory on Korean Carex to 24 out of 180 taxa.

        A new record of Carex rugata Ohwi (Cyperaceae) in Korea

        An unrecorded species, Carex rugata Ohwi, was found in Jeollabuk-do and Jeollanam-do. This species is distinguished from Carex breviculmis R. Br., C. mitrata Franch., C. polyschoena H. Lév. & Vaniot, C. genkaiensis Ohwi, C. formosensis H. Lév. & Vaniot and C. kamagariensis K. Okamoto by having achenes with excavated faces. Carex rugata Ohwi was named ‘Ju-reum-cheong-sa-cho’ in Korean based on its specific epithet. In this study, a description, illustrations and photographs of the species are provided.
