      • 濟州島産 등줄쥐 Apodemus chejuensis의 精子와 精子變態의 微細構造

        Fine structure of spermiogenesis and morphological features of the mature sperms in the Korean striped field mouse, Apodemus chejuensis, were examined by light and electron microscopy. Spermiogenesis was divided into Golgi phase, cap phase, acrosome phase and maturation phase. Early spermiogenesis the Golgi body secreted a proacrosomal granule posteriorly which migrated along the plasma membrane to the anterior of the spermatids. During the cap phase, both the acrosomal granule and vesicle moed toward the anterior pole of the nucleus. The acrosomal vesicle grew and covered approximately the anterior two thirds of the nucleus at the head cap. During the acrosomal phase, most of the acrosomes localized at the anterior pole of the nucleus, and the remainder spreaded into the head cap. And the acrosome contained substances which were different in electron density. The perforatorium and acrosomal ring consisted of densely packed cytoplasmic elements invested by the inner acrosomal membrane. After the development of the tail was completed, the residual body, which consisted of excess cytoplasm containing of few inclusions and organelles, was separated from the spermatozoon. The species of the genus Apodemus have been known that their sperms have a long apical hook that projects caudally. However, the sperm head of A. chejuensis was very truncated. The sperm head of this species also had a falciform, and the outer dense fibers of middle piece were arranged in a horseshoe fashion. It was considered so that the fine structure of the spermatozoon may be a reasonable criterion for determining the phylogenetic relationships of the genus Apodemus.

        효소형 분석에 의한 국내 등줄쥐(Apodemus agrarius coreae)와 흰넓적다리붉은쥐(Apodemus peninsulae peninsulae)의 특성 조사

        경기, 강원, 충청, 경상 그리고 전라지역 에서 225마리의 들쥐를 포획하였더니 Apodemus agrarius coreae가 200마리로 전국적인 분포를 보였고, Apodemus peninsulae peninsulae는 25마리로 강원, 경상 및 전라지역에서만 포획되었다. 전기영동법을 이용하여 이들 두 종에 대한 간장 조직에서 조사하였던 G6PDH, ADA, PEP-A, PEP-B, AAT, SOD, LDH, MDH, PNP, GAPDH 등 10종 모두가 검출되었다. 등줄쥐에서는 전기영동분석 결과 32종의 표현형이, 흰넓적다리붉은쥐에서 8가지가 검출되었다. 두 종의 locus의 평균 유전학적인 다양성은 0.130으로 나타났고, 유전학적인 차이는 0.100~0.600으로 상대적인 차이를 보였으며, 등줄쥐는 0.150~0.398사이에 네 개의 집단으로 구분되었던 반면 흰넓적다리붉은쥐는 0.100~0.275의 차이로 확인되었다. 경기지역의 안성, 여주 그리고 전라지역의 완주에서 포획된 등줄쥐를 제외하고는 지역에 따라서 6~11개의 조직내 효소 표현형이 중복되어 있었다. 흰넓적다리붉은쥐 역시 한 가지 이상의 표현형이 있었고 이들은 지역적인 차이를 보였으며, 등줄쥐와 조직내 효소형과 중복되어 있었다. Two hundred of Apodemus agarius coreae and twenty five of Apodemus peninsulae peninsulae were caught from Kyonggi, Kangwon, Chungchong, Jeolla and Kyongssang provinces across the country. Isoenzyme patterns were analyzed by gel electrophoresis with liver homogenates of A. a. coreae and A. p. peninsulae. Using 10 enzyme systems, 32 electrophoretic types (ETs) were identified from two species of Apodemus including 8 ETs from A. p. peninsulae with genetic diversity per locus between 0.00 and 0.54 (mean 0.13). Genetic distances among ETs of A. a. coreae and A. p. peninsulae was between 0.100 and 0.600. Thirty two ETs of both species of Apodemus were classified to four major groups with genetic distance from 0.150 to 0.398. Eight ETs of A. p. peninsulae were grouped into four subgroups with genetic distance from 0.100 to 0.275. All ETs of A. p. peninsulae were belong to those of A. a. coreae with enzymatic variation. There was only one ET in A. a. coreae from Ansong an Yoju counties in Kyonggi and Wanju county in Jeolla province. However, all samples collected from the rest were identified to have 6 to 11 ETs on local enzymatic variance. Enzymatic overlap between both species was confirmed with at least one ET depending on the sites of collection.

        금원산 자연휴양림 내 들쥐류의 종 분포 및 특성

        To provide basic information for wildlife management, we investigated the distribution and ecology of wild mice in Mt. Keumwon recreational forests. The trapped wild mice were a total of 4 species such as Eothenomys regulus, Apodemus speciosus peninsulae, Apodemus agarius, and Crocidura suaveolens. A total of 79 individuals from four species were trapped. Number of Eothenomys regulus was the highest as 41 individuals followed by Apodemus speciosus peninsulae of 31 individuals, Apodemus agarius of 4 individuals, and Crocidura suaveolens of 4 individuals. Depending on forest type, 51 individuals were captured in broad-leaved forests, whereas 28 individuals were captured in coniferous forests. Average weight of the trapped Eothenomys regulus, Apodemus speciosus peninsulae, Apodemus agarius, and Crocidura suaveolens was 37.13 g, 36.29 g, 31.25 g, and 15 g, respectively. Among the trapped wild mice, vole which has the largest head and ears were Eothenomys regulus and vole which has the longest tail was Apodemus speciosus peninsulae and Apodemus agarius (p<0.5). This study might be valuable to control and predict some damages related to wild mice in Mt. Keumwon for protecting forest trees.

      • Taxonomic status of the Apodemus agrarius chejuensis population of Cheju Island, Korea, From the standpoint of external and cranial characters

        제주도산 등줄쥐의 분류학적 위치를 재검토하기 위하여 두골의 특징과 외부형태를 한국 본토산 등줄쥐 Apodemus agraius coreae와 근연종인 일본산 A. specious, A. argenteus 및 타이완산 A. semotus와 비교하였다. 외부형태 및 두골의 특징으로부터 제주도산 등줄쥐와 한국 본토산 등줄쥐 사이에는 2개의 계열에 속해 있었다. 체중의 회귀직선은 거의 평행으로 절편간에 유의차가 있었으며, 두골 각 부위의 두골전장에 대한 회귀직선의 비교에서도 8개의 부위에서 유의차가 있었다. 또한 절치공후단과 상악제일구치의 전단 사이의 거리도 서로 달라 제주도산 등줄쥐와 한국 본토산 등줄쥐는 형태학적으로 서도 다르다고 판단되어 제주도산 등줄쥐를 “Apodemus chejuensis"라고 제안한 Oh와 Mori(1998)의 의견을 지지한다. In order to re-examine status of the Korean striped field mice, Apodemus agrarius chejuensis from the Cheju Island, external values and skull characters were compared with A. a. coreae from the Korean Peninsula, A. specious, A. argenteus, and A. semotus. Skull characters of A. a. chejuensis(Cheju population) and A. a. coreae(main1and population) were fitted onto two different clines. The regression lines of the body weight of A. a. chejuensis and A. a. coreae were virtually parallel and there were significant differences between sections. Significant differences were furthermore detected between A. a. chejuensis and A. a. coreae in 8 parts(condylobasa1 length, nasal length, frontal length, interorbital breadth, auditory bulla length, breath of occipital foramen, height of mandible and length of the lower molar series). Moreover, distances between the posterior end of incisive foramina and anterior end of the first upper molar in the Cheju Island and mainland populations were different. These data support the specific division of "Apodemus chejuensis" occurring in the Cheju Island from A. agrarius in the mainland, as proposed by Oh and Mori(1998).

        한국 산악지역에서 채집한 야생들쥐의 한타바이러스 감염에 대한 혈청역학적 연구

        Hantaan virus is widely distributed among rodent populations in Korea. Two antigenically distinct hantaviruses were isolated from Apodemus agrarius in 1976 and Rattus norvegicus in 1980 in Korea. This study was designed to investigate the serological evidence of hantavirus infection among indegenous wild rodents, which were captured in 11 mountains located in Kyunggi, Kangwon, Chungnam, Chunbug and Kyungnam province of South Korea. A total 252 wild rodents of 3 species were trapped from Myungsung Mt., Chumbong Mt., Kali Mt., Hansuk Mt., Chachil peak, Kyebang Mt., Odae Mt., Kyerong Mt., Kaya Mt., Togju Mtand Chiri Mtin 1997. Serologic test for hantavirus infection was performed using hantavirus antigens by indirect immunofluorescent antibody techniqueAmong 122 Apodemus agrarius, 88 Apodemus peninsulae and 42 Eothenomys regulus; 18 A. agrarius (14.8%), 12 A. peninsulae (13.6%) and 4 E. regulus (9.5%) were immunofluorescent antibody (IFA) positive against hantaan virus. IFA titers 3 Eothenomys regulus sera were higher against puumalavirus than hantaan virus. These data imply that above three species of rodent might be natural reservoirs of hantaviruses in Korea.

        Helicobacter apodemus sp. nov., a new Helicobacter species identified from the gastrointestinal tract of striped field mice in Korea

        A novel Helicobacter species was identified from the gastrointestinal tract of the Korean striped field mouse (Apodemus agrarius). Biochemical testing, ultrastructure characterization, and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis suggested that this bacterium represents a distinct taxon. The bacterium was positive for urease activity, susceptible to cephalothin and nalidixic acid, and weakly positive for oxidase and catalase activity. Electron microscopy revealed that the bacterium has spirally curved rod morphology with singular bipolar nonsheathed flagella. Genotypically, the isolated bacterial strains (YMRC 000215, YMRC 000216, and YMRC 000419) were most closely related to a reference strain of Helicobacter mesocricetorum (97.25%, 97.32%, and 97.03% 16S rRNA sequence similarities, respectively). The 16S rRNA sequences of these strains were deposited into GenBank under accession numbers AF284754, AY009129, and AY009130, respectively. We propose the name Helicobacter apodemus for this novel species.

      • 동부 아시아에서 서식하는 흰넓적다리 붉은 쥐, Apodemus peninsulae Thomas(설치목, 포유강), 5아종의 형태적 형질의 지리적 변이

        Four external and 27 cranial characters of Korean field mice (Apodemus peninsuluek from nine localities in eastern Asia, representing ave subspecies, were analyzed by multivariate statistical methods. Three forms were recognized: a large-size form from Korea (subspecies peninsulael, southern Manchuria (praeto4, and northern Manchuria (majofi a middle-size form from urestern Siberia (tschergal and southuvestern China (sowerbyi); a small-size form from northeastern China (sowerbyi). It is also revealed that variations among the three forms are clinal rind circular. It is confirmed that Apodemus peninsuloe could be classified into two subspecies (peninsulae and sowerbyl) within the distribution range in the continent of Asia, as noted tv Corbel (1978). However, it is found that subspecies peninsulae includes praetor and moior and that subspecies sowerbyi includes tscherga, indicating that subspecies tscherga is not the synonym of subspecies peninsulae, but that of subspecies sowerbyi.

      • Surveillance of Wild rodents and chigger mites in southern part of Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea in 2022 and 2023

        쯔쯔가무시증은 급성 발열성 질환으로 Orientia tsutsugamushi을 보유한 털진드기 유충이 숙주를 흡혈할 때 전파된다고 알려져 있다. 국내에서는 한국전쟁 중에 첫 감염사례가 확인되었고 이후 지속적으로 보고되고 있다. 털진드기 유충이 성장하기 위해선 반드시 동물의 체액을 필요로 하기 때문에, 일시적으로 야생 설치류 등에 기생 하는데 봄철과 가을철에 주로 발생한다. 이처럼 인간에게 피해를 주는 털진드기의 분포와 병원체 유무를 조사하 기 위해, 2022년부터 2023년까지 경상북도 김천시에서 3월, 4월과 10월, 11월 5가지 환경(논, 밭, 수로, 야산, 저수 지)에서 Sherman trap을 이용하여 설치류 채집을 진행하였다. 2022년에는 총 18마리의 설치류가 채집되었고, Apodemus agrarius가 14마리(77.8%)로 가장 많이 채집되었다. 2023년에는 총 25마리의 설치류가 채집되었고, Apodemus agrarius가 19마리(76.0%)로 역시 가장 많이 채집되었다. 채집된 설치류 의 개체수는 2022년 대비 2023 년에 약 39% 증가하였다. 설치류에서 채집된 털진드기의 개체수를 조사한 결과, 2022년에는 총 1,862마리, 2023 년에는 3,243마리가 채집되어 전년 대비 약 74% 증가하였다. Chigger index 값을 살펴보았을 때 2022년에는 Apodemus agrarius에서 122.2, 2023년에는 Apodemus agrarius에서 169.7로 가장 높았다. 설치류에서 채집된 털진 드기의 반수에 대한 병원체 보유 여부를 확인하기 위해 최대 30마리씩 pooling하여 실험한 결과, 모두 음성으로 확인된 2022년과 달리 2023년 10월 3개, 11월 1개의 pool에서 쯔쯔가무시 양성이 확인되었다. 확인된 양성 샘플은 모두 저수지에서 채집된 개체로 해당 지역에 대한 지속적인 감시가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.
