본 연구는 농촌에서 인문학 프로그램을 진행했을 때 나타나는 효용성을 분석한 글이다. 사회 전반에서 볼 수 있는 인문학 열풍이 도시 중심으로 진행되고 농촌 지역민은 인문학을 접하는 게 어려운 사회문화적인 상황을 사회구조적인 문제로만 접근한다면, 삶의 학문인 인문학이 새로운 차별을 외면하는 것과 같다. 그리고 특정 지역에서 살아가는 사람들에게 인문학은 더 이상 삶의 학문이 아니라 하나의 이상으로만 존재하게 된다. 이 연구는 이러한 문제 인식에서 출발했으나, 한 지역에서만 진행되었으며, 지역민 전체가 아니라 인문학 프로그램에 참여한 지역민만을 대상으로 한다는 점을 밝힌다. 2장에서는 농촌 지역민을 대상으로 진행한 인문학 강좌를 중심으로 지역민의 인식 변화를 고찰했다. 인문학 강좌에 참여한 지역민들이 인문학 강좌에서 습득한 지식과 정보로 자신들이 살아가는 지역에 대해 주체성을 강화하고, 지역의 역사에서 자긍심을 느끼며, 지역이라는 모호한 공간을 의미 있는 장소로 인식하는 변화에서 인문학의 효용성을 찾았다. 3장에서는 농촌 안에서도 상대적인 소외자인 노인들에게 시 낭송을 매개로 인문학 프로그램을 진행한 과정을 살펴보았다. 노인들이 읽기에 비교적 부담이 적은 시와 리듬이 있는 낭송을 진행하면서 노인 인문학의 발전 가능성을 볼 수 있었다. 그러나 코로나 19(COVID-19) 감염병 상황에서 노인 세대에 대한 인문학 프로그램의 효용성에는 한계가 있었다. 본 연구는 일부 농촌 지역민만을 대상으로 하고 있지만, 인문학 소외지역에서 인문학은 어떤 방법으로 접근해야 하는지, 인문학이 어떤 방향으로 나아가야 할지에 대해 실천학으로서의 인문학적 지평을 제시했다는 데에 의미를 둔다. 아울러 코로나 19와 같은 문명의 변화 앞에서 노인 세대처럼 상대적인 인문학 소외계층에 나타나는 인문학 프로그램의 한계를 어떻게 극복할 것인가에 대해 우리 모두 고민해야 할 것이다. This study looks at how humanities programs can bring about changes to local people in farming areas where it is not easy to meet the humanities. If the urban-centered humanities craze is approached as a social structural problem, humanities, the study of life, will create new discrimination, and humanities will no longer exist in certain areas, but only in one or more area. The study begins with this recognition of problems, but was conducted only in one region, and only for local people who participated in humanities programs, not the entire community. Firstly, changes in the perception of local residents, focusing on humanities courses for farming area residents was examined. Local people who participated in the humanities course found the utility of humanities in recognizing the ambiguous space of the region as their own place, feeling proud of the region’s history with the knowledge and information they acquired from the humanities course. Secondly, this study looked at the process of conducting humanities programs through poetry reading to elderly people who are relatively marginalized in farming areas. As a result, it was found that there was a limit to the utility of the humanities program in the elderly generation in the COVID-19 infectious disease situation. This study was conducted in only one farming area, but it is meaningful in that it presented a humanistic horizon as a practice on how humanities should move and the approach that the humanities should adopt in areas where humanities are alienated. In addition, how to overcome the limitations of humanities that have emerged in the face of civilization changes, such as COVID-19, should also be considered.
