        이병헌(李炳憲) 『수화개벽설(水火開闢說)』의 역학사상과 시대인식 연구

        This paper aims to explore the characteristics of ideas on yixue 易學 and his perception of history and times in Japanese colonial era scholar Jinam Lee Byung-hun (1870-1940)’s yixue theory. Lee Byung-hun grew up with traditional Confucian studies, but in his 30s, he was absorbed in Western studies, and later recognized the religious role of Confucianism and immersed himself in the Confucian religious movement. In his later years, he was absorbed in the study of the Zhouyi 周易, and Suhwa Gaebyeokseol 水火開闢說 was his last work left at the age of 70 in 1939. This work borrows Shao Yong 邵雍’s theory of yixue, but contains Lee Byung-hun’s own theory of yixue. He suggested yuan 元, yun 運, hui 會, and shi 世 theories based on the four seasons, 12 months, and 24 seasons. This paper analyses where Lee Byung-hun’s own theory of yixue is based and what its characteristics are. His theory contains ideas about acceptance of Western scientific knowledge and the identity of the theory of the changes in Confucian classics, especially the Zhouyi. Lee Byung-hun’s theory of yixue is basically based on the principle of the order of changes in the natural world, but ultimately explores the rise and fall of human history and civilization history. He presented the 12 stages of East and West history development through the 12 sessions, which is likened to 12 months in a year. Along with the start of a new cycle of changes, gaebyeok 開闢, he mentioned the activities of Dongguk 東國 and Dongyi 東夷, the roots of Joseon, as the starting point and main body of Eastern civilization. And gradually, with the development of material civilization and democracy in the West, he approached critically the development of murder machines and the side effects of war and slaughter brought by the convenience of material civilization. His frame on yixue encompasses a view of the future, specifically referring to the environmental problems that the pursuit of convenience can bring. This paper analyzes Lee Byung-hun’s historical perceptions, and contemporary tasks shown by his frame on yixue, and explores the message this sends to us today.

        이병헌(李炳憲)의 금문경학적 『역경(易經)』 이해 - 태괘(泰卦)와 비괘(否卦)를 중심으로 -

        진암(眞菴) 이병헌(李炳憲, 1870~1940)은 일제강점기 유학자로서, 금문경학(今文經學)의 측면에서 유가 경전을 해석하는 특징을 가지고 있었다. 그는 『역경(易經)』을 비롯하여, 『시경(詩經)』, 『서경(書經)』, 『예경(禮經)』 등에 대한 연구 성과를 남겼는데 특히 생애 만년에 『역경』 연구에 몰두한 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 이병헌이 금문에 기초한 『역경』 해석을 중심으로 하여 그의 『역경』 연구가 가진 특징과 의미를 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 그의 『역경』 관련 저작인 『역경금문고(易經今文考)』, 『수화개벽설(水火開闢說)』을 중심으로 하고 기타 『이병헌전집(李炳憲全集)』에 실린 관련 내용들을 중심으로 하여 살펴보고자 한다. 본 논문에서는 『역경』에 공자의 미언대의(微言大義)가 담겨 있다는 이병헌의 기본 전제에 기초하여, 『역경』 상경(上經)의 괘서(卦序) 가운데 특히 태괘(泰卦)와 비괘(否卦)가 지닌 의미를 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 『수화개벽설』에서 이병헌이 제시한 원세운회(元世運會)를 중심으로 하여 우임금 치수로 대표되는 태괘의 시대로부터 이병헌 당시의 비괘의 시대에 관한 그의 논의를 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 통해 일제강점기의 유학자로서, 유가경전 특히 『역경』을 프레임으로 하여 사회와 역사, 세상을 바라보았던 이병헌의 고민과 시대에 대한 성찰을 살펴보고자 한다. Jinam 眞庵 Lee Byung-hun 李炳憲(1870~1940) was a Confucian scholar during Japanese Ruling Era and he had a academic characteristic to interpreted the Confucian classics based on New Text Confucian. He left behind his studies on Yijing, Shijing 詩經, Shujing 書經, Lijing 禮經, and etc. Especially in his later years, he devoted himself to studying the Yijing. This paper explores the features and meanings of Lee Byung-hun’s research on the Yijing, which is based on New Text classics. To do this, this paper focuses on his Yijing-related works, the Yeokgyeong Geummungo 易經今文考 and the Suhwa Gaebyeokseol 水火開闢說 and explores relevant contests shown in the Complete Collection of Lee Byung-hun 李炳憲全集. This paper particularly analyses the meaning of Tai 泰卦 and Pi Hexagrams 否卦 in the “Shangjing 上經”’s Hexagram sequences based on the basic premise of Lee Byung-hun that the Yijing contains Confucius’ great principles in subtle words (微言大義). Futhermore, this paper explores his discuss on from the age of Tai Hexagram, which is represented by the Yu 禹’s controlling waters, to the age of Pi Hexagram, which means the ear Lee Byung-hun lived. From this, we can understands how Lee Byung-hun recognized society, history, and world by using the frame of Confucian classics, especially Yijing, as one of the Korean Confucian scholars who lived during Japanese Ruling Era.
