The purpose of this study was to collect basic data for developing strategies and education programs that can induce children to build behavioral patterns that can promote their oral health. Thus, for this study, a self-administered survey was conducted among teachers at the rural community children centers and a total of 394 questionnaires were analyzed. The collected data were processed using SPSS/Win 22.0 to perform descriptive statistics, reliability test, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and Duncan`s test. The obtained results from this study are the following. Severity among sub-areas of oral health belief varied statistically significantly by marital status, education, and position. The respondents who were married, who were graduate school graduates or received higher education levels, and those who were directors had relatively higher levels of severity. Benefits varied statistically significantly by counseling education service status. Those in charge of counseling education service had higher levels of benefits. Importance varied statistically significantly by age, marital status, education, position, service duration, childcare teacher`s qualification status, and clerical and administrative service status. The respondents who were aged ≥50 years, who were married, who were graduate school graduates or at higher education levels, who were directors, who had been employed for 1-<2 years or for ≥5 years, who had childcare teacher`s license, and who were in charge of clerical and administrative work had higher levels of importance. Oral health knowledge varied statistically significantly by gender, education, service duration, and teacher`s qualification status. Those who were female, who were graduate school graduates or at higher education levels, who had been employed for <1 year or for ≥5 years, and who had teacher`s license had better oral health knowledge. Oral health attitudes varied statistically significantly depending on gender, age, marital status, education, position, service duration, childcare teacher`s qualification status, and teacher`s qualification status. Those who were female, who were aged ≥50 years, who were graduate school graduates or at higher education levels, who were directors, who had been employed for ≥5 years, and who had a teacher`s license had better oral health attitudes. Behaviors varied statistically significantly by gender, marital status, education, position, service duration, childcare teacher`s qualification status, teacher`s qualification status, and counseling education service status. The respondents who were female, who were married, who were graduate school graduates or at higher education levels, who were directors, who had been employed for ≥5 years, who had childcare teacher`s license or teacher`s license, or those who were in charge of counseling education service made better behaviors. On the basis of these results, it is first of all necessary to make a plan for changing oral health belief with the objective of promoting oral health continuously and systematically, taking into account the factors affecting oral health belief, knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of teachers at community children centers. It is also necessary to develop effective oral health education media as well as practical education programs regarding children`s oral care so that their good oral care habit can be brought into their lifestyle in adulthood.

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of oral health education experience on needs for oral health education in children and adolescents in elementary and secondary schools. A self-administered survey was conducted on the students in elementary, middle and high schools located in the city of Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, from October 1 to 31, 2018. The data that were collected from 327 students were analyzed by SPSS 21.0. Statistical data on frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were obtained, and t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and logistic regression analysis were carried out. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the subjects got 2.25 on a three-point scale in self-rated oral health status. This score was above average, which indicated that the students thought they were in good oral health. As for problems with oral health, dental caries was given the highest score of 2.48 on a five-point scale, followed by oral malodor with 2.35. Second, the students who experienced oral health education accounted for 69.1 percent, and the students who felt the need for this education represented 82.6 percent. As for educational content desired, the biggest group of 57.8 percent hoped to learn about how to prevent and manage dental caries, and the second largest group of 17 percent wanted to learn about how to take care of oral health during orthodontic treatment. Third, as a result of investigating the state of oral health education by the grade of school, the elementary school students had more oral health education experience than the middle and high school students, and the middle school students placed the most importance on the necessity of oral health education. The differences were statistically significant. Fourth, as a result of analyzing the correlation between oral health education experience and the necessity of oral health education, the students who had more oral health education experience asked more for this education, which implies that there was a statistically significant positive correlation. The findings of the study ascertained that oral health education should be provided for students in childhood and adolescence to boost the level of their oral health knowledge and change their oral health attitude in a positive manner. If oral health practice programs that connect schools, local communities and families with one another are developed to guide the oral health behaviors of teenagers in the right direction, it will make a contribution to the promotion of oral health.

Vol.31 No.4

This study investigated the subjective oral health status and oral health-related knowledge, attitude, and behavior of traders in some farming and fishing villages to improve their knowledge and management attitude to oral health. This also necessitated understanding the traditional market traders’ oral health problems and the risk factors of oral diseases and further provide the baseline data that could contribute to the promotion of adult oral health. As for the subjects of the study, the results of a survey of the markets’ operating traders’ associations collected from 500 persons in some farming and fishing villages were used as the subjects of analysis. As for the research tools, this study investigated their general characteristics(sex, age, the highest level of education, economic conditions, and regularity of health examinations), subjective oral health status(pronunciation, mastication, pain, and halitosis) and oral health knowledge, attitude, and behavior. As for the data analysis methods, the hypotheses were verified through frequency analysis of questionnaires, reliability analysis, x2-test, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Scheffe’s post-test, and simple regression analysis, and the statistical significance level was p<.05. In a comparison of general characteristics and oral health status, there were significant differences according to age(F=4.226) and the highest level of education(F=5.059). In a comparison of general characteristics and the average oral health knowledge, there were significant differences according to age(F=4.241), the highest level of education(F=5.589), and economic condition(F=3.506). In a comparison of the average oral health attitude, there were significant differences according to sex(t=-2.789), age(F=3.482) the highest level of education(F=5.414), and economic condition(F=4.174). In a comparison of the average oral health behavior, there were significant differences according to sex(t=-3.887), the highest level of education(F=7.397), and regular health examination(t=3.880). It turned out that subjective oral health status had a significant negative(-) impact on oral health knowledge(t=-2.488) so the lower the level of subjective oral health status, the lower the level of oral health knowledge became. Based on the above results, to improve the traders’oral health status, it is necessary to deliver proper oral health care knowledge, and it is important to detect oral diseases early and to improve their awareness of the importance of preventive measures. In addition, it is judged that it is necessary to teach them about oral diseases and the need for treatment. Furthermore, it is necessary to provide an oral health program for each age group, to provide continuous oral health education, and to develop and apply an active promotion project.
