This paper analyzed the gospel acceptance process of North Korean defectors in Russia as a way of researching Mendelbaum’s life history. Through this, strategies to increase the gospel receptivity to displaced North Koreans as well as North Korean defectors in Russia were suggested. This study is meaningful in that it dealt with the gospel acceptance of North Korean defectors in Russia for the first time from a life-history perspective. The life history data of participant A in the study were analyzed in order of Mendelbaum’s life dimensions, turnings, and adaptations. And in it, the process of the gospel acceptance was clearly revealed. The gospel acceptance of participant A was carried out in the providence of God. While living in North Korea, he already experienced the illusions and absurdities of the North Korean system. Such experiences acted as a driving force for becoming a North Korean defectors in Russia. Participant A received the help of missionaries in the process of defection, experienced God's guidance and protection, and accepted the gospel. He accepted the gospel in Russia and grew his faith through faith education. Participant A came to South Korea and was called to North Korea mission through training at the Jesus Discipleship School and three vision trips to Israel. Now he is studying at the seminary. Based on the research results of participant A, the following are the ways to increase the gospel receptivity of North Korean defectors in Russia. First, we should create contents that can inform the reality of the North Korean system and let them know through various broadcasting media. Second, we must send missionaries to areas where North Korean workers in Russia live and establish a mission center. Third, online worship ministry and Bible study should be prepared and conducted for North Korean defectors in Russia. Fourth, we should create and implement a discipleship training program that fits the context of their lives. Fifth, we must establish a mentoring system to help North Korean defectors live a life of faith.

로젠탈(Rosenthal)의 생애사 연구 방법을 활용한 탈북민 사역자의 복음수용 과정 분석

통일선교를 준비하는 우리들에게 생애사적 증언에 기초한 북한의 정치·사회·경제·문화는 물론, 복음 환경과 같은 상황적 이해가 매우 중요하다. 졸저의 생애사 주인공 강철수(가명)는 북한이탈주민으로서 현재 남한에서 기독교 복음사역을 하고 있다. 이 연구는 강철수가 복음을 수용하고 북한선교 사역자가 되기까지의 생애사를 로젠탈 (Ronsenthal)생애사 연구방법으로 분석했다. 특히 강철수가 복음을 접하게 된 계기, 수차례의 탈북, 체포 및 수감생활 등 한국에 입국하기 전까지 생사를 넘나들던 시기, 그리고 한국 입국과 그 이후 신학대학원에서의 공부와 북한선교사역의 시작 등 현재까지의 그의 생애사를 분석했다. 분석결과 중국에서 복음을 전해 준 두 분의 영적아버지와 한국에서 북한선교의 비전을 심어 준 영적어머니와의 만남이 가장 중요한 요인으로 드러났다. 강철수의 신실한 믿음은 준비 된 인적자원 (human resources)과의 만남이라고 할 수 있는데, 이를 통해 우리는 통일선교 시대를 맞이하여 사람을 준비하는 일의 중요성을 새롭게 인식할 수 있는 것이다. Understanding the politics, economics, culture and religious circumstances of North Korea through the life stories of North Korean defectors is critical for those working for the unification mission. This study analyses the life stories of Kang Cheol-Su (pseudonym) through the use of Rosenthal’s life history research methodology, in particular focusing on Kang’s stories of conversion, escaping from North Korea, incarceration, various dangerous moments he encountered before entering South Korea, studying in a seminary, and his missional work for North Korean defectors. This research recognized his meeting with two ‘spiritual fathers,’ who taught him the gospel in China, and meeting with a ‘spiritual mother’ in South Korea, who instilled in him the vision that missions to North Korea were crucial moments in his life history. Therefore, this study highlights again the importance of preparing people for the unification mission.
