본 논문은 로잔운동에 관한 우선주의(Prioritism)와 총체주의(Holism) 사이의 신학적 논쟁을 개혁주의 관점에서 평가하는 데 목적이 있다. 로잔대회의 선교신학은 복음의 우선성(priority of Gospel)을 기반하는 우선주의에서 벗어나, 에큐메니컬 운동의 영향으로 복음전도(Evangelism)보다 사회적 관심(Socical Concern)의 역점을 둔 총체주의로 전환되었다. 이 같은 복음전도와 사회적 관심의 통합(integration)은 하나님이 세상을 사랑하시기 때문에 선교에 있어서 봉사(service)를 강조하기 위함이었다(CTC-I.10:B). 먼저 우선주의는 마태복음 28장 18-20을 근거로 복음전도의 우선성을 주장한다. 그리고 총체주의는 요한복음 20장 21절을 바탕으로 평안의 파송으로서 화해(reconciliation)를 강조한다. 기본적으로, 양자의 신학적 갈등은 복음에 관한 인식론적 차이(epistemological difference)에서 발생한다. 그로 인해 우선주의와 총체주의는 세상과 구원에 관한 선교적 이해를 달리한다. 이것은 우선주의와 총체주의의 재고(rethinking)를 요구한다. 그러므로 저자는 로잔운동 안에서 우선주의와 총체주의에 관한 신학적 견해들을 살핀 후 개혁주의 입장에서 성경해석학을 바탕으로 로잔의 총체주의를 평가함으로써 복음전도의 우선성을 적극 지지한다.

모든 사역이 그렇듯이 선교에 있어서도 선교의 개념을 어떻게 설정하느냐에 따라 선교의 목적이 달라지고, 그 목적을 성취하는데 필요한 방법과 전략 등도 달라지게 된다. 이런 점에서 어떤 선교 개념을 갖는가 하는 것은 선교의 방향에 지대한 영향을 미치게 되는 것이다. 로잔에서 나온 문서들을 보면 로잔이 어떤 선교의 개념을 지니고 있으며, 그 선교의 개념들이 어떤 변화를 보여주고 있는지 큰 틀에서의 경향성을 찾아볼 수 있다. 그리고 이러한 개념의 변화를 추적하고 분석하는 작업은 로잔이 추구하는 미래의 선교 방향 설정을 위해 중요한 작업이 될 것이다. 이런 점에서 본 연구는 로잔의 선교 개념 변화의 경향을 분석하고 그러한 변화에서 고민해야 할 점들이 무엇인지를 고찰해보았다. 로잔에 나타난 선교 개념의 변화는 1) 좁은 의미의 선교 개념에서 넓은 의미의 선교 개념으로, 2) 세상을 구원하는 선교에서 섬기는 선교로, 3) 우선성에서 총체성으로의 변화 경향이 있음을 살펴보았다. 특별히 WCC가 제시한 통전적 선교 개념을 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 점진적으로 수용하면서 WCC의 선교 개념과 유사한 총체적 선교 개념을 채택하였음을 살펴보았다. 이러한 변화는 일정 부분 장점을 지니고 있지만, 동시에 고민해야 할 점들도 많이 있다. 특별히 복음에 대한 진정한 확신 여부, 로잔의 초심 변경 여부, 선교 개념의 혼동 여부, 선교의 효율성 약화 여부 등에 대한 깊은 고민이 필요하다. 특별히 ‘총체적 선교’ 라는 매우 그럴듯한 개념을 통해 절대 무너지면 안 되는 거대한 댐에 작은 구멍 또는 금이 생기고 이것이 결국 댐 전체를 무너뜨리는 것은 아닌지를 냉정하게 돌아보는 것이 로잔의 미래 발전을 위해 필요한 작업이 될 것으로 보인다.

로잔복음화 운동과 한국교회 ; 로잔운동에 나타난 전도와 사회적 책임의 관계

The study is to examine the historical development of the relationship between evangelism and social responsibility in the Lausanne Movement. The premise of Lausanne movement was expressed as the primacy of evangelism as appeared in Lausanne Covenant. From the beginning of this movement, there was an inner tension between those who emphasized the evangelism as the priority over all other activities of the church, and those who stressed sociopolitical involvement also as theimportant duty of the church. The declaration of sociopolitical involvement as the duty of the church in article 5, and the primacy of evangelism in article 6 was, in fact, a painful solution to prevent a split between Americanbased conservatives, and Europeanbased progressive evangelicals with the supports of Latin America`s radical discipleship group. John Stott played a key role in this burdening consensus. The relationship between article 5 and 6 has triggered heated debate and in 1980, and different views became obvious in two consultations. While the High Leigh Consultation has emphasized importance of social responsibility, the Pattaya Consultation declared the primacy of evangelism. The new inbridge attempt was made in 1982 in Grand Rapids Consultation, by announcing the primacy of evangelism as the logical one. Such view has continued in Manila Congress in 1989. However, subtle changes occurred during these consultations, and gradually, new view has emerged during the late 1990s. In 2001, Micah Network has been formed within evangelical camps and became the representing view of social participation as the essential duty of the church. And this formation gave an impetus to raise the voice of European and Latin American evangelicals. Finally, in 2004 Pattaya Consultation has proposed Holistic Mission instead of the primacy of evangelism. In 2010, the third congress was held in Capetown, South Africa, and produced the official statement called, ‘Capetown Committment’. In this statement, the officials changed view was obvious. Under the subtitle of ``integral mission``, the statement officially supports integral mission. The omission of primacy of evangelism in the statement clearly shows the changed view in Lausanne Movement. Now, in Christian mission, social involvement and evangelism are both the duty of the church, and there is no primacy of such over the other. After all, this change creates another tension within Lausanne camp now. To some, this change was more cautious one, while to others it was fervently welcomed.

This paper is a study about the influence of ecumenical mission theology upon lausanne movement. For this purpose it investigated the documents of the 1st through 3rd lausanne assemblies in detail. Based on this, it evaluated how the lausanne movement has been changed by the influence of the ecumenical mission theology. In particular, it searched the transformation of lausanne theology regarding the following issues: understanding of the world, understanding of the target and tasks of mission, understanding of social responsibility, understanding of the core of mission, understanding of the urgency of evangelism. As all other theologies do so, the ecumenical theology has dark and bright sides as well. Though the ecumenical theology contributed to the work of emphasizing social responsibility of the church, it is hard to deny that it weakened the importance of primacy of evangelism and dedication to world evangelization as it stressed the ministry of social responsibility too much. As a result of this study, it was found out that lausanne, by the impact of ecumenical mission theology, came to have a more positive view of the world, to emphasize social responsibility much more, to pursue integral mission gradually. while weakening the primacy and urgency of evangelism. This study would be helpful for people to see how lausanne has been changed in the long history. So it would be also helpful for them when they discuss what would be the desirable direction for which lausanne should pursue.
