리스트, 라벨, 드뷔시의 ‘물’ 이미지의 형상화와 인상주의적 어법에 관한 연구

본 논문에서는 프란츠 리스트(Frans Liszt, 1811-1886), 모리스 라벨(Maurice Ravel, 1875-1937), 클로드 드뷔시(Claude Debussy, 1862-1918) 이 세 작곡가가 그들의 피아노 음악에서 물의 이미지를 어떻게 음악적으로 형상화하였는지에 대하여 공통점과 차이점 등을 살펴보고자 한다. 특별히 리스트의 <순례의 해 제 3집>(Années de pèlerinage: Troisième année, 1877) 중에서 ‘에스테장의 분수’ (Les Jeux d’eau a la Villa d’Este), 라벨의 <물의 희롱> (Jeux d’eau, 1901), 드뷔시의 <영상 제 1집>(Images I, 1905) 중에서 ‘물의 반영’ (Reflets dans l’eau) 을 선곡하였다. 리스트로부터 시작하여 라벨과 드뷔시에 이르는 흐름을 따라 그들의 물에 관한 음악을 살펴봄으로써, 리스트의 물에 관한 이미지의 구체적인 형상화가 다음 세대인 라벨과 드뷔시의 물에 관한 작품들에서 더욱 세련된 기법과, 다면적인 인상주의적 어법으로 진화, 발전되었음을 관찰할 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study is to investigate the common thread and different aspects in evoking water imagery by Franz Liszt (1811-1886), Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) and Claude Debussy (1862-1918). This study addresses impressionistic water music for piano solo composed in the nineteenth and early twentieth century, including Les jeux d’eau à la Villa d’Este (1877) from Années de pèlerinage: Troisième année by Liszt, Jeux d’eau (1901) by Ravel, and Reflets dans l’eau from Image I (1905) by Debussy. By tracing the lineage from Liszt through Ravel and Debussy, one may observe how the depiction of water evolves from simple and recognizable figurations both visually and aurally in Liszt’s water music to the more sophisticated and multifaceted impressionistic style in the works of Ravel and Debussy.
