Research on local hybridity and post-centrality manifested in Sin Gyeong-rim’s poems postulates a return to locality underpinning one’s life by characterizing not a homogeneous space but a non-homogeneous place. Sin Gyeong-rim’s travel poems represent local place-ness at home and abroad. The context influencing his place representation is that he is a Korean born in Chungju. The poet represents places towards locals in overseas destinations as a traveler from a semi-peripheral country and in domestic destinations as the same type of person as locals. That is, in tourist destinations, he is a tourist with some capital power and at the same time a semi-peripheral person who observes and reports a central view of others towards locals. Thus, Sin Gyeong-rim’s poems capture a dual mechanism, i.e. the local centrality and the periphery. The local hybridity and post-centrality manifested in Sin Gyeong-rim’s poems constitute the very research on positive and negative effects of globalization on locals. Current capital globalization has emerged as a critical factor affecting the local. The local are characterized by the hybridity of their placeness-based culture and the capitalization-based western culture attributable to cross-border capital flows. Also, cross-border globalization underscores the likelihood of the local to gain further autonomy and to settle as independent segmented units. The culture based on the local forms the place-ness that constitutes democracy involving freedom, happiness, rights and sovereignty where the local stand against the central power. Moreover, the place-based culture empowers the peripheral subjects and communities that used to exist as sub-subjects far from the center of capital to emerge. The poet’semi-peripheral aspects manifested in his poems serve as some food for thoughts over the issues of capitalization the local are subjected to, the binary- opposition components with inherent centralism, and the locals’ orientation towards coping with the foregoing trends in life. The real challenges facing the local, e.g. a sense of alienation of the local resulting from the state-oriented ideology, expanding capitalism or mammonism, the envy and jealousy of the local towards the central, and the identity crisis of the local ascribable to globalization, should no longer be addressed with economic or political logics only. Instead, given such challenges are associated with human life and identity, they need be rectified from a fundamental and integrated perspective conveyed by literature. 신경림 시에 나타난 로컬의 혼종성과 탈중심성 연구는 균질적인 공간이 아닌 비균질적인 장소의 특성을 살펴봄으로써, 삶의 근본이 되는 로컬로의 회귀를 전제한다. 신경림의 기행시는 국내·외 로컬의 장소성을 재현한다. 그가 장소를 재현하는 데 영향을 끼치는 컨텍스트는 충주출신의 한국인이라는 것이다. 이러한 시인의 위치는 국외 여행지에서는 반(半)주변국의 여행자로서, 국내 여행지에서는 지방 사람들과의 동일한 처지에서 로컬인을 지향하는 장소를 재현한다. 즉 여행지에서 그는 자본력을 가진 관광객이지만 로컬에 대한 중심의 타자적 시선을 관찰·고발하는 반(半)주변인인 것이다. 따라서 신경림의 시에는 로컬의 중심성과 주변성의 이중적 메커니즘이 포착된다. 신경림 시에 나타난 로컬의 혼종성과 탈중심성은 세계화가 로컬에 미친 부정적·긍정적 측면에 대한 연구이다. 오늘날 자본의 세계화는 로컬에 영향을 끼치는 결정적 요인으로 등장하고 있다. 자본의 탈경계로 로컬은 그것의 장소성에 기반한 문화와 서구의 자본화에 기반한 문화가 혼종된 성격으로 점철된다. 또한 세계화의 탈경계화는 로컬의 보다 많은 자율성 획득과 독자적 분절 단위로 자리매김 할 가능성을 제공하기도 한다. 로컬에 기반한 문화는 로컬이 중심 권력에 대항하는 자유, 행복, 권리, 주권 등 민주주의를 구성하는 장소성을 형성한다. 그리고 이 장소 기반적 문화를 통해 자본의 중심에서 멀리 떨어져 하위주체로 존재하던 주변부적 주체 및 공동체들이 새롭게 부상하게 된다. 작품에 드러난 시인의 반(半)주변성은 로컬이 겪는 자본화 문제, 중심주의가 내재한 이항 대립적 요소, 그리고 그에 대처하는 로컬인의 삶의 지향성이 무엇인지에 대하여 성찰하게 한다. 국가 중심주의가 배태한 로컬의 소외의식과 자본 팽배주의, 중앙에 대한 로컬의 선망과 질시, 세계화에 따른 로컬의 정체성 위기 등 로컬이 당면한 현실 문제는 더 이상 경제나 정치적 논리에만 기대어 접근할 문제가 아니다. 그것은 인간의 삶과 정체성의 문제로 연결되기에 문학이 갖는 근원적이고 통합적인 시각에서 해결책을 찾아야 한다.
