The purpose of this research is to provide suggestions to develop a cooperative preservation and utilization program suitable for domestic circumstances. To accomplish the purpose of this research, an in-depth study was conducted parallel to surveys and focus group interviews. The study found that a high number of KESLI members recognizes the necessity of the cooperative preservation and utilization of print journals. The study also provides suggestions for the successful development and operation of the cooperative preservation center for print journals—the development of councils, the ownership of journals, the scope of journals to be collected, and the form of the national preservation center. The results of the study will be utilized as the model for the cooperative preservation and utilization of print journals suitable for Korean circumstances. 본 연구는 인쇄학술지 공동 보존 및 활용 기능을 수행하는 인쇄학술지 공동보존센터 구축에 대하여 수요조사 및 운영 방식에 관한 의견 조사를 통해 공동보존센터 구축을 위한 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 KESLI 참가 기관을 대상으로 설문조사, 포커스그룹 면담을 수행하였다. 연구 결과로 인쇄학술지 공동 보존의 필요성에 대해서는 많은 응답자가 인식하고 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 국내 실정에 맞는 인쇄학술지 공동보존센터 구축을 위해 협의체 구성 방안, 기탁 학술지의 소유권, 보존 대상 인쇄학술지 범위 및 보존센터 유형을 제시하였다. 본 연구결과는 인쇄학술지 공동보존센터 구축의 타당성 확보와 국내 실정에 맞는 모델 개발을 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

의학도서관을 위한 인쇄본 학술지 공동보존체제 구축에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study is to develop a collaborative print journal preservation model for the medical libraries in Korea. After reviewing previous studies and advanced preservation practices, a survey was administered to the members of the Korean Medical Library Association to collect data about the present states of journal weeding and storage space as well as their needs and preferences for collaborative preservation. Based on the analysis, a hybrid model, consisting of centralized and distributed archives, is proposed with MEDLIS as infra structure. Detailed characteristics and three phases of implement strategies are described. Finally, recommendations for the Korean Medical Library Association to the successful substantiation are suggested. 우리나라 의학도서관의 인쇄본 학술지 공동보존체제를 구축하기 위하여, 선행 연구와 사례를 통해 공동보존의 유형과 발전현황을 고찰하고, 한국의학도서관협의회 회원도서관들을 대상으로 인쇄본 학술지 폐기 실태와 공간현황 및 공동보존 요구도와 참여의지 및 선호방식 등을 조사하였다. 분석 결과에 기초하여, 기존의 MEDLIS 인프라를 활용한 집중형과 분산형으로 구성된 하이브리드 모형을 제안하였으며, 기본사항과 세부내용, 단계별 시행추진 전략을 제시하였다. 마지막으로 성공적인 구현을 위한 한국의학도서관협의회의 노력을 제언하였다.

The purpose of cooperative print journal preservation program has the goals of safeguarding the long-term future of printed research journals, enabling quick and easy access to research materials, and ensuring efficient use of resources. In this study, four agreements of cooperative print journal preservation programs were analyzed and compared based on seven common categories of policy statements. Four programs were WEST, ASERL, NLM, and UKRR. As a result of this study, seven common categories identified were general administration types, resource management and use, resource selection, cataloging information, retention periods, ownership and cost, and withdrawal of participation. The results of this study are expected to be used as alternatives suitable for Korean circumstances in the near future.
