번역과 이념, 섹슈얼리티 : 마르쿠제(Marcuse) 사상의 번역과 저항 담론의 형성(1945~1979)

In this paper, I will discuss the process of formation of resistance ideology in Korea through the translation aspect of Herbert Marcuse (1898~1979) after liberation. The Marcuse idea is translated into the symbolic presence of the 68 revolution within the knowledge field of Korea, which accepted the 68 Revolution as a student movement, and the representation of the idea. Especially, Reason and Revolution: Hegel and the Rise of Social Theory(1941) and An Essay on Liberation(1969) serve as ideological nourishment in terms of the combination of negative thinking and practice in the present world with the discourse of resistance in the present, especially the students’ movement. However, the critical thinking about the mechanism of capital, in which the One-Dimensional Man: Studies in the Ideology of Advanced Industrial Society(1964) are frustrated by Marcuse, and how the giant industrial society manually tamed the subject, can not be properly translated. Instead, it is used to criticize the revolutionary nature of the working class within the conservative discourse of the present day, and Resistant subjects criticize it as pessimistic epistemology. And the main slogan of the 68 Revolution, and although the most radical of Marcuse’s ideas, Eros and Civilization:A Philosophical Inquiry into Freud(1955), have been translated relatively early, neither side is able to get the right echo. The fact that this Eros idea was translated into the dimension of aesthetic epistemology by Kim Hyun can be seen as a proof of the limit of translation of Erotic thought in Korea and the conservative nature of Korean resistance discourse. These limitations are based on patriarchal recognition as a tradition, praising the Vietnam War as a national pride, advancing low-wage labor as a driving force for national development, forcing the victims to sacrifice themselves, As a result of the combined effect. It is also the result of the power of anti-communist censorship system that made it impossible to acquire systematic theory and the desperation of the resistance subjects of the day, who had to make the ideological foundation in haste to oppose such a government system. 본고는 해방 이후 마르쿠제(Herbert Marcuse, 1898~1979)의 번역 양상을 통해서 한국에서 저항 이념이 형성되는 과정에 대해서 논의하고자 한다. 마르쿠제 사상은 68혁명을 학생운동 차원에서 받아들인 한국의 지식 장 내부에서 68혁명의 상징적 존재로, 그 사상의 재현 형상으로 번역된다. 특히 『이성과 혁명』과 『해방론』 등은 당대 저항담론, 특히 학생운동 주체들의 필독서로 당대 세계에 대한 부정적 사유와 실천의 결합이라는 측면에서 이념적 자양분을 제공하는 역할을 한다. 그러나 『일차원적 인간』은 마르쿠제가 절망했던, 거대 산업 사회가 어떻게 주체를 수동적으로 길들이는가라는 자본의 메카니즘에 대한 비판적 사유는 제대로 번역되지 못한다. 대신 당대 보수적 담론 내부에서는 노동자계급의 혁명성을 비판하는 데 활용되고, 저항적 주체들은 비관주의적 인식론으로 치부하여 비판한다. 그리고 68혁명의 주요 슬로건이기도 하고, 마르쿠제 사유 중 가장 급진적인 『에로스와 문명』은 비교적 일찍 번역되었음에도 불구하고, 어느 진영에서도 제대로 된 반향을 얻지 못한다. 그러다가 이 에로스 사상이 김현에 의해서 미적 인식론 차원으로 번역된 것은 한국에서 에로티즘 사상 번역의 한계와 한국 저항 담론의 보수성을 증명해 주는 것이라고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 한계는 가부장제적 인식을 전통으로 삼으며, 베트남전 참전을 국위선양이라 칭송하고, 저임금 노동을 국가 발전의 원동력으로 삼아 주체들의 희생을 강요하며 풍속 통제를 강화했던 당대 개발독재 체제 하라는 당대 현실 상황이 복합적으로 작용했던 결과라고 볼 수 있다. 거기에 체계적인 이론의 습득을 불가능하게 했던 당대 반공주의적 검열 체제의 위력과 이러한 통치 체제에 대항하기 위해 그 이념적 토대를 조급하게라도 만들어가야 했던 당대 저항 주체들의 절실성이 만들어 낸 결과이기도 한다.

루이스 어드릭의 『사랑의 묘약』에 나타나는 에로스의 정치성: 룰루와 마리를 중심으로

이 논문은 루이스 어드릭이 널리 호평 받은 소설 『사랑의 묘약』(1993)에 등장하는 두 여성인물(룰루 나나푸시와 마리 라자르 캐시포)에 초점을 맞추어, 북미 원주민이 ‘사라지는 사람들’이라는 오래되고 위험한 관념을 심문하고 와해시키는 저자의 정치적으로 저항적인 목소리를 탐구한다. 우선, 이 논문은 정부정책의 실행, 법, 종교, 문화 면에서 드러나는 미국 백인의 식민주의적 지배에 대항한 치페와족의 다층적 저항을 살펴보면서, 어드릭이 ‘사라지는 사람들’(‘명백한 운명’의 또 다른 표현)에 대한 의식이 근거 없음을 이야기하는 방식을 탐구한다. 둘째, 이 논문은 프로이트와 마르쿠제가 ‘에로스’(억압적 문명이 야기하는 위기에 대한 대안으로서 삶을 통합하고 유지하려는 에너지)에 대해 제시한 성찰을 참조하여, 룰루와 마리의 사랑의 포용력을 중심으로 치페와족의 삶과 유산이 유지되고 부활하는 것에 대한 저자의 비전을 밝힌다. 치페와 인디언보호구역에 가해지는 파괴적이고 억압적인 식민주의적 상황에도 불구하고, 룰루와 마리가 이들 자신과 더불어 부족공동체의 사랑과 유대를 강화하고 상호간의 갈등을 봉합하는 통합력은 역사의식에 기초한 어드릭의 ‘에로스’의 정치성을 밝혀줄 것이다. This essay explores Louise Erdrich’s politically resistant voice which interrogates and disrupts the long-lasting, pernicious misbelief about Native Americans as ‘vanishing people’. This essay chiefly focuses on the two female characters―Lulu Nanapush and Marie Lazarre Kashpaw―in the author’s widely acclaimed novel Love Medicine (1993). First, illustrating the Chippewas’ multifaceted resistances against white Americans’ colonialist dominance disclosed in their enforcement of governmental policy, law, religion, and culture, this essay investigates how Erdrich does not stop telling her story that the idea of ‘vanishing people’―another version of ‘Manifest Destiny’―is unfounded. Second, by referring to Freud’s and Marcuse’s speculation on ‘Eros’―the great unifying energy that preserves all life―as an alternative to the predicament caused by an oppressive civilization, this essay illuminates Erdrich’s vision of sustaining and regenerating the Chippewas’ tribal life and heritage that center on the embracing power of love reified in Lulu and Marie. Their undying energy consolidating their communal love and ties, despite the destructive, oppressive colonialist milieu inflicted on the Chippewa Indian reservation, sheds light on the author’s politics of ‘Eros’ predicated tightly upon her historical consciousness.

에로스와 문명을 바라보는 두 시각 -바타이유와 마르쿠제

Der eine, Herbert Marcuse, ist Philosoph, der andere, Heinrich Boll, ist Schriftsteller. Beide sind in unserer Zeit zu unnachgiebigen und couragierten Instanzen einer humanistischen Kritik geworden. Die weitgehenden Parallelen zwischen Herbert Marcuse und Heinrich Boll verlangen nach einer Erklarung. Allenfalls ist denkbar, daß Boll im Zuge der Studentenbewegung der spa¨ten sechziger Jahre, deren Sympathisant er war, und welche die Theorie Marcuses begierig zur philosophischen Untermauerung ihrer Revolte aufgesogen hatte, mittelbar von Marcuse beeinflußt wurde. Die Gru¨nde der Parallelen zwischen Marcuse und Boll werden deshalb im Wesen allen wahrhaft utopischen Denkens zu suchen sein. Das utopische Denken scheint im Sinne von Marcuse die Wiederverso¨hnung zwischen Lustprinzip und Realitiitsprinzip des menschlichen Lebens zu ersehnen, deren Trennung eine Geschichte voll Herrschaft und Unterdru¨ckung herbeigefiihrt hat, indem sie das urspru¨nglich im Dienste des Lusprinzips stehende Realitiitsprinzip zum Leistungsprinzip umformte. Bolls Entwurf der Leistungsverweigerung ist Ausdruck der Auflo¨sung der gesellschaftlichen Moral des Leistungsprinzips, die Herbert Marcuse bei den Tragern der neuen Sensibilita¨t festgestellt hat. In diesem Sinne ist Bolls Konzept als subjektive Kritik an dem herrschenden Wertsystem im Namen des Lustprinzips zu verstehen. In Marcuses Versuch uber die Befreiung finden sich interessanterweise Stellen, die sich quasi als politische Erlauterung zu Bolls Verweigerungskonzept lesen und die Verwandtschaft der Autoren in ihrem Denken und ihrer Kritik erneut belegen. Ahnlich wie bei Marcuse, bei dem an Stelle von Klassenkra¨ften die neue Sensibilitat zur Aktion treibt, bei dem die Kra¨fte des Eros und nicht Interessenallianzen das Fundament der Solidaritat abgeben, zeigt sich auch bei Boll in der politischen Aktion eine Rebellion des Lustprinzips. Katalysator bei Boll ist Leni als Kristallisationspunkt des Romans 「Gruppenbild mit Dame」. Und Motiv des Handelns ist bei fast allen Beteiligten eine uber Leni vermittelte Menschlichkeit, deren Inkarnation sie selbst dastellt. Damit bekommt auch bei Boll die Solidaritiit eine fast erotische Qualitat, die dem entspricht, was Marcuse uber die libidinose Grundlage von Solidaritat ausfuhrt.
