This paper examined the ground characteristics of Seoul by using borehole information and by developing ground information database on the base of Geo-Seoul, and studied a method for applying the compiled database to GIS or for utilizing it as design constant. According to this study, the base rock head contour of Seoul is below 10~30 m from underground, the north area of Han River is mostly composed of granite and the depth is below 5 m~20 m from underground and the south area of Han river is mostly composed of gneiss and the depth is below 15~30 m from underground. The distribution of RQD was 5~90%, the north area of Han River is 35~90%, and the south area of Han River 5~65%. It was means that the rock mass of the south was severely fractured and in an ground water level, the north area of Han River was revealed to be 2~8 m from the ground surface and the south area to Han River to be 4~12 m.

Recently, steel has been very frequently chosen in building many civil infra-structures including bridges due to its several beneficial advantages as compared to concrete structures. However, for the most cases, damage such as section reduction, that is resulted from corrosion, was natural and inevitable. Therefore, it becomes very important to evaluate the structural safety and to assess the life for the worst cases. In this study, many year used steel box bridge, whose section was reduced due to corrosion, was considered to evaluate damage for design loads in the simplified numerical model. The boundary condition was changed to find how much damage can occur. Finally, the change of fatigue lives was investigated in terms of the used time of structures and the horizontal and longitudinal movements of bridge support.

Heat transfer process is important for many applicable fields such as heat exchanger, construction material, and aircraft body. Heat conduction is much affected by contact resistance between two different material interfaces. In this study, various experimental conditions were tested to decrease contact resistance and to increase thermal conductivity with several coating materials. Aluminium pieces of 2 mm, 4 mm were used as test samples. Copper powder (a few micrometer diameter), copper powder/silicon oil (80/20 weight ratio), and conductive paste were used as coating materials. When the conductive paste and (copper powder+silicon oil) blend were used, thermal conductivity was higher than when no coating materials were used. However, when only the copper powder was used, thermal conductivity value was not stable enough.

The dam overtopping probability using parametric Monte Carlo Simulation(MCS), which revealed a weakness as being the hardest problem in analysis techniques, cannot define correct probability distribution about hydraulic/hydrological uncertainty variables. Nonparametric MCS reflect probability characteristics of data relatively well comparing parametric method. Another problem of existing MCS generates a large number of realizations of uncertainty variable according to their corresponding probability distribution. Therefore, overall objective of the present study is to formulate a practical methodology to evaluate, systematically and quantitatively, the risk of failure in an existing dam.

In this paper, a method for the implementation of a circular interpolator is proposed to be used for a two-axes reference-pulse Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) system. An Algorithm is derived based on the half step discrimination method. The simulation results show that this circular interpolation algorithm is superior to those of existing interpolations - DDA, Danielsson's algorithm, and Four-pont algorithm in a sense of the performance criteria such as Peak error and RMS error.
Thermal Expansion and Electrical Properties of Nd1-xSrxGa1-xMgxO3-δ Electrolytes

The solid electrolytes Nd1-xSrxGa1-xMgxO3-δ (x= 0, 0.03, 0.07, and 0.1) were synthesized by solid-state reactions. As the amount of dopants Sr and Mg increase, the phase was analyzed. The thermal expansion coefficients of Nd1-xSrxGa1-xMgxO3-δ were 11.1~11.7×10-6 K-1. The a.c. conductivities in air by using an impedance analyzer were measured as a function of temperature. The d.c. conductivities and oxygen nonstoichiometries over the range of the oxygen partial pressure from 1 atm to 10-16 atm by Coulometric titration method were measured simultaneously. The electrical conductivity of Nd0.93Sr0.07Ga0.93Mg0.07O3-δ was 5.9×10-3 Scm-1 at 1173 K and was stable over the whole oxygen partial pressure range. The oxygen nonstoichiometry increased with decreasing the oxygen partial pressure.
