Microstructure and tribological properties of ion beam‑modified GO‑reinforced copper matrix composites

        Zi‑liang Liu,Yong Li,Xiao Guo,Jun‑jie Tao,Ji‑ning Huang,Ling‑lin Fang 한국탄소학회 2023 Carbon Letters Vol.33 No.6

The flaw of low dispersibility in the metal matrix brought on by graphene's full crystal structure can be improved by the application of ion beam radiation to the surface of the material. Copper atoms are uniformly dispersed on the modified graphene oxide ( GOM) surface after being irradiated to a copper ion beam, and during the sputtering modification, the valence state of copper is changed, resulting in the formation of a new CuO phase on the graphene oxide (GO) surface. Therefore, after copper ion beam irradiation of graphene, the interfacial adhesion between GOM and copper matrix is enhanced, and the wear resistance is significantly improved. When the GOM content is low, it can withstand most of the load during the friction and wear test, which reduces the wear of the copper matrix and the occurrence of fatigue cracks at the interface of the composite material.

Cloning and expression pattern of odorant receptor 11 in Asian honeybee drones, Apis cerana (Hymenoptera, Apidae)

        Jun Feng Liu,Le Yang,Mang Li,Xu Jiang He,Zi-long Wang,Zhijiang Zeng 한국응용곤충학회 2019 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.22 No.1

Odorant receptors play a crucial role in the special recognition of scent molecules in the honeybee olfaction system. The odorant receptor 11 (AmOR11) in western honeybee drones (Apis mellifera) has been demonstrated to specifically bind to 9-oxo-2-decenoic acid (9-ODA) of queens. However, little is known regarding the functions of OR11 Asian honeybee drones (Apis cerana) in the context of their mating activities. In this study, the odorant receptor 11 gene (AcOr11) from A. cerana was cloned, and its expression profiles were examined during two developmental stages (immature and sexually mature) and different physiological statuses (flying and crawling). The cDNA sequence of AcOr11 was highly similar to that of AmOr11, and encoded a membrane-coupled protein of 384 amino acids. The results of qRT-PCR indicated that AcOr11 was expressed at higher levels in drone antennae compared to brains, and the expression was significantly up-regulated in sexually mature drone brains compared to immature brains. Interestingly, AcOr11 expression in brains of mature flying drones was dramatically higher than those of mature crawling drones. To our knowledge, this study demonstrate a link between AcOr11 gene expression in the brain of honeybee drones and behavior associated with sexual maturity and mating flight.

Ginsenoside Rk1 ameliorates paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity in mice through inhibition of inflammation, oxidative stress, nitrative stress and apoptosis

        Jun-Nan Hu,Xing-Yue Xu,Wei Li,Yi-Ming Wang,Ying Liu,Zi Wang,Ying-Ping Wang 고려인삼학회 2019 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.43 No.1

Background: Frequent overdose of paracetamol (APAP) has become the major cause of acute liver injury. The present study was designed to evaluate the potential protective effects of ginsenoside Rk1 on APAPinduced hepatotoxicity and investigate the underlying mechanisms for the first time. Methods: Micewere treated with Rk1 (10 mg/kg or 20 mg/kg) by oral gavage once per d for 7 d. On the 7th d, all mice treatedwith250mg/kgAPAPexhibitedsevere liver injuryafter24h, andhepatotoxicitywas assessed. Results: Our results showed that pretreatment with Rk1 significantly decreased the levels of serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, tumor necrosis factor, and interleukin-1b compared with the APAPgroup.Meanwhile, hepatic antioxidants, including superoxide dismutase andglutathione, were elevated compared with the APAP group. In contrast, a significant decrease in levels of the lipid peroxidation product malondialdehyde was observed in the ginsenoside Rk1-treated group compared with the APAP group. These effectswere associatedwith a significant increase of cytochromeP450 E1 and 4-hydroxynonenal levels in liver tissues. Moreover, ginsenoside Rk1 supplementation suppressed activation of apoptotic pathways by increasing Bcl-2 and decreasing Bax protein expression levels, which was shown using western blotting analysis.Histopathological observation also revealed that ginsenoside Rk1 pretreatment significantly reversed APAP-induced necrosis and inflammatory infiltration in liver tissues. Biological indicators of nitrative stress, such as 3-nitrotyrosine, were also inhibited after pretreatment with Rk1 compared with the APAP group. Conclusion: The results clearly suggest that the underlying molecular mechanisms in the hepatoprotection of ginsenoside Rk1 in APAP-induced hepatotoxicity may be due to its antioxidation, antiapoptosis, anti-inflammation, and antinitrative effects.

Landscape pattern affects species composition and abundance of ground-dwelling predator

        Zi-Hua Zhao,Hardev Sandhu,Jun-He Liu,YingWang 한국응용곤충학회 2015 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.18 No.2

Commercial wheat farms were studied in Yinchuan Plain of Northwest China to assess the effects of two agrofarming systems on ground-dwelling predators. Pitfall trap methods were employed to investigate grounddwelling predators during a four-year study from 2009 to 2012. Results showed that 9 species of grounddwelling predators (Calosma maderae, Chlaenius pallipes, Dolichus halensis, Scarites terricola, Pterostichus gebleri, Harpalus crates, Pardosa astrigera, Erigonidium graminicolum, and Erigone prominens) dominated in the total 49 species captured. The structurally complex landscape (CL) supported significantly higher species diversity of ground-dwelling predators than that in structurally simple landscape (SL). Furthermore, there were also significant differences in population density and richness of ground-dwelling predators between CL and SL system. Finally, an inventory of ground-dwelling predators associated with different agricultural management systems was developed based on experimental collection, and it will serve as the basis for the sustainable pest management in Northwest China.

      • Analysis of the Biological Function of ELDF15 Using an Antisense Recombinant Expression Vector

Liu, Yan,Wang, Long,Wang, Zi-Jun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.21

ELDF15, homologous with AT2 receptor-interaction protein 1 (ATIP1), may play an important role in cell differentiation, proliferation, and carcinogenesis. We aimed to understand the biological function of ELDF15 via construction and transfection of a recombinant expression vector containing antisense ELDF15. Recombinant expression vectors were successfully constructed and transfected into K562 cells. A stable transfectant, known as pXJ41-asELDF15, stably produced antisense ELDF15. Compared with K562 and K562-zeo cells, K562-pXJ41-asELDF15 cells showed inhibition of cell proliferation. RT-PCR analysis showed that the expression and protein level of ELDF15 decreased significantly in K562 cells transfected with pXJ41-asELDF15. Expression of hemoglobin increased in K562 cells transfected with pXJ41-asELDF15 by benzidine staining. increases NBT reduction activity in K562 cells transfected with pXJ41-asELDF15.Colony forming efficiency in two-layer soft agar was clearly inhibited as assessed by electron microscopy. These results suggest that ELDF15 plays a potential role in cell differentiation, proliferation and carcinogenesis.

      • New Insights into mTOR Signal Pathways in Ovarian-Related Diseases: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Ovarian Cancer

Liu, Ai Ling,Liao, Hong Qing,Li, Zhi Liang,Liu, Jun,Zhou, Cui Lan,Guo, Zi Fen,Xie, Hong Yan,Peng, Cui Ying Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.12

mTOR, the mammalian target of rapamycin, is a conserved serine/threonine kinase which belongs to the phosphatidyl-linositol kinase-related kinase (PIKK) family. It has two complexes called mTORC1 and mTORC2. It is well established that mTOR plays important roles in cell growth, proliferation and differentiation. Over-activation of the mTOR pathway is considered to have a relationship with the development of many types of diseases, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and ovarian cancer (OC). mTOR pathway inhibitors, such as rapamycin and its derivatives, can directly or indirectly treat or relieve the symptoms of patients suffering from PCOS or OC. Moreover, mTOR inhibitors in combination with other chemical-molecular agents may have extraordinary efficacy. This paper will discuss links between mTOR signaling and PCOS and OC, and explore the mechanisms of mTOR inhibitors in treating these two diseases, with conclusions regarding the most effective therapeutic approaches.

A Novel Method to Estimate the System Damping After Generator Tripping

        Bin Zi-Jun,Liu Yun,Hao Si-Peng,Zhu Xin-Yao,Kong Xiang-Ping,Wang Ming-Shen 대한전기학회 2023 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.18 No.2

Generator tripping strategies are generally decided by offline transient stability analysis. However, traditional methods can hardly ensure dynamic stability after GT. Simulation tests show that GT strategies change the topology and the state variables of a power system, which may weaken the system damping after GT. In order to estimate the system damping, this paper proposes a time-varying linearized model under unsteady states based on the virtual equilibrium point (VEP) theory. Then, the changes in dynamic characteristics caused by GT can be represented by the eigenvalues at VEPs before and after GT. An inertia equivalence system is mathematically formulated to analyze the effects of generator inertia, damping ratio, and controllers. Two indices are designed to estimate the system damping changes. Based on the indices, a framework is proposed to improve the current GT strategy decision-making system. The sensitivity analysis and the fault scanning verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method and indices.
