      • Expression of VEGF-C/VEGFR-3 in Human Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinomas and its Significance for Lymphatic Metastasis

        Objectives: Expression of vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C)and vascular endothelial growth factor feceptor-3 (VEGFR-3) in laryngeal squamous carcinoma and its relationship to lymph node metastasis were investigated. Methods: VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 gene expression in 30 cases of normal laryngeal mucosa tissue (NLM), primary laryngeal carcinoma cell carcinomas (PLC) and cervical lymph nodes (CLN) was examined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Protein levels of VEGF-C expression were determined by immunohistochemical staining in 60 cases of PLC. Results: Expression of VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 different among NLM, PLC and CLN in the same patient. In PLC, expression was significantly higher in lymph node positive group than in the lymph node negative group and associated with histological grade of differentiation; Expression of VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 was not linked with age, sex, site or T stage. Conclusions: A close correlation was found between VEGF-C/VEGFR-3 expression and lymph node metastasis in PLC, suggesting a role in metastasis of laryngeal carcinomas.

        Fabrication and application of silicalite-1 and TS-1 hollow fibers with polyethylene imine (PEI) fibers as substrates

        Silicalite-1 and titanium containing silicalite-1 (TS-1) hollow fibers were fabricated with polyethylene imine (PEI) fibers as substrates. The acid treated PEI fibers were positively charged and can be effectively coated with silicalite-1 or TS-1 nanocrystals from their colloidal solution. The adsorbed silicalite-1 or TS-1 nanocrystals grew up and became more compact upon two days of vapor phase Ostwald ripening in autoclave. Silicalite-1 and TS-1 hollow fibers were obtained after calcination at 400 8C in air. The shell thickness of the hollow fibers is 1 mm. Hydroxylation of phenol with H2O2 was investigated over TS-1based catalysts in order to compare influences of nanocrystals composed macrostructure and Al2O3binder on the catalytic activities.

        Carbon Paper-Supported NiCo/C–N Catalysts Synthesized by Directly Pyrolyzing NiCo-Doped Polyaniline for Oxygen Reduction Reaction

        In this study, we report the findings that the C–N composites containing Ni and Co (Ni1Co1/C–N, Ni3Co1/C–N, Ni6Co1/C–N, Ni9Co1/C–N, Ni10Co0/C–N and Ni0Co10/C–N) can be produced by direct pyrolysis of the NiCo-doped polyaniline (PANI) precursors in N2 atmosphere at 800 ℃ and show efficient electroactivity for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline media. Distribution and compositions of the catalysts were characterized by SEM, TEM, EDS and XRD techniques. The catalysts were loaded on carbon paper to prepare gas diffusion electrodes, in which electrocatalytic activity for ORR in alkaline media was investigated by voltammetric techniques. The ORR current density on these carbon paper-supported NiCo/C–N catalysts exhibits a linear increase with the negative shift of ORR potential. The ORR onset potential is around 0.2 V (versus Ag/AgCl) in alkaline media. Among the prepared catalysts, the catalyst Ni6Co1/C–N presents the largest ORR current density, which is 68.5 mA cm -2@-0.8 V (versus Ag/AgCl) in alkaline media. Moreover, Ni6Co1/C–N catalyst also presents good electrocatalytic activity stability for ORR.

        Regulation of chicken vanin1 gene expression by peroxisome proliferators activated receptor α and miRNA-181a-5p

        Objective: Vanin1 (VNN1) is a pantetheinase that can catalyze the hydrolysis of pantetheine to produce pantothenic acid and cysteamine. Our previous studies showed that VNN1 is specifically expressed in chicken liver. In this study, we aimed to investigate the roles of peroxisome proliferators activated receptor α (PPARα) and miRNA-181a-5p in regulating VNN1 gene expression in chicken liver. Methods: 5'-RACE was performed to identify the transcription start site of chicken VNN1. JASPAR and TFSEARCH were used to analyze the potential transcription factor binding sites in the promoter region of chicken VNN1 and miRanda was used to search miRNA binding sites in 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of chicken VNN1. We used a knock-down strategy to manipulate PPARα (or miRNA-181a-5p) expression levels in vitro to further investigate its effect on VNN1 gene transcription. Luciferase reporter assays were used to explore the specific regions of VNN1 targeted by PPARα and miRNA-181a-5p. Results: Sequence analysis of the VNN1 promoter region revealed several transcription factor-binding sites, including hepatocyte nuclear factor 1α (HNF1α), PPARα, and CCAAT/enhancer binding protein α. GW7647 (a specific agonist of PPARα) increased the expression level of VNN1 mRNA in chicken primary hepatocytes, whereas knockdown of PPARα with siRNA increased VNN1 mRNA expression. Moreover, the predicted PPARα-binding site was confirmed to be necessary for PPARα regulation of VNN1 gene expression. In addition, the VNN1 3'UTR contains a sequence that is completely complementary to nucleotides 1 to 7 of miRNA-181a-5p. Overexpression of miR-181a-5p significantly decreased the expression level of VNN1 mRNA. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that PPARα is an important transcriptional activator of VNN1 gene expression and that miRNA-181a-5p acts as a negative regulator of VNN1 expression in chicken hepatocytes.

        Degradation of sulphapyridine by Fe-Mn binary oxide-mediated radical reactions

        Sewage containing antibiotics is harmful to the water environment. Here, a newly prepared iron manganese binary oxide (FMBO) activated persulfate (PDS) has excellent performance for the degradation of sulfapyridine (SPY) in an aqueous environment. The effects of initial pH, SPY, PDS concentration and FMBO dosage on the degradation ability of SPY were investigated. When the pH of FMBO/PDS was 4.0 and the initial concentration of PDS was 2.0mmol/L, the degradation ratio of SPY could reach 94.4%. In the system of removing organic pollutants by transition metal activated PDS, SO4 • and •OH radicals are generally generated, and •OH radical plays a major role. Through the identification of SPY intermediate products by LC/MS, the degradation mechanism was explored. The degradation pathway showed that the strong oxidation of FMBO and the activity of PDS promoted the production of hydroxyl radical and contributed to the degradation and transformation of antibiotics. This study shows that FMBO/PDS has high degradation efficiency in the degradation of SPY.

        A Hybrid of Smartphone Camera and Basestation Wide-area Indoor Positioning Method

        Indoor positioning is considered an enabler for a variety of applications, the demand for an indoor positioning service has also been accelerated. That is because that people spend most of their time indoor environment. Meanwhile, the smartphone integrated powerful camera is an efficient platform for navigation and positioning. However, for high accuracy indoor positioning by using a smartphone, there are two constraints that includes: (1) limited computational and memory resources of smartphone; (2) users` moving in large buildings. To address those issues, this paper uses the TC-OFDM for calculating the coarse positioning information includes horizontal and altitude information for assisting smartphone camera-based positioning. Moreover, a unified representation model of image features under variety of scenarios whose name is FAST-SURF is established for computing the fine location. Finally, an optimization marginalized particle filter is proposed for fusing the positioning information from TC-OFDM and images. The experimental result shows that the wide location detection accuracy is 0.823 m (1σ) at horizontal and 0.5 m at vertical. Comparing to the WiFi-based and ibeacon-based positioning methods, our method is powerful while being easy to be deployed and optimized.

        Image deblurring via adaptive proximal conjugate gradient method

        It is not easy to reconstruct the geometrical characteristics of the distorted images captured by the devices. One of the most popular optimization methods is fast iterative shrinkage/ thresholding algorithm. In this paper, to deal with its approximation error and the turbulence of the decrease process, an adaptive proximal conjugate gradient (APCG) framework is proposed. It contains three stages. At first stage, a series of adaptive penalty matrices are generated iterate-to-iterate. Second, to trade off the reconstruction accuracy and the computational complexity of the resulting sub-problem, a practical solution is presented, which is characterized by solving the variable ellipsoidal-norm based sub-problem through exploiting the structure of the problem. Third, a correction step is introduced to improve the estimated accuracy. The numerical experiments of the proposed algorithm, in comparison to the favorable state-of-the-art methods, demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method and its potential.

        ROBUST GAIN-SCHEDULING CONTROL OF DYNAMIC LATERAL OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE FOR CONNECTED AND AUTOMATED VEHICLES

        Dynamic trajectory planning (DTP) and Dynamic trajectory tracking (DTT) are the real-time mutual coupling in the process of the dynamic lateral obstacle avoidance (DLOA) of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs). Meanwhile, the varying velocity and acceleration of obstacle vehicles (OVs) increase the difficulties of DTP. Furthermore, the parameters perturbation in CAVs (such as mass and cornering stiffness), the varying velocities of CAVs and the signal disturbances, raise the difficulties of DTT. Therefore, the DLOA is challenging due to the interaction of the above multiple factors. To address the problem, this paper proposes a robust gain-scheduling control strategy of DLOA for CAVs. The strategy is divided into two modules namely DTP and DTT, and the two modules cooperate with each other in real time. In the module of DTP, the optimal trajectory considering the efficiency, passenger comfort and safety is real-time optimized in the dynamic safe limit which is real time predicted according to the information from CAVs and OVs. In the module of DTT, the real-time trajectory reference is tracked. Robust gain-scheduling control is realized to cope with variation of real-time trajectory reference, varying velocity, parameters perturbation and signal disturbances during the process of DLOA. The simulation results indicate that the strategy can effectively achieve DLOA maintaining the vehicle stability across various working conditions.

      • Optimization of Production System Based on Lean Thinking

        Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to find hidden waste and non-value- added activities during the whole process of M company, and then optimize production processes, shorten the production cycle, improve production efficiency, and ultimately achieve just-in-time production mode which response to customer demand rapidly. Design/methodology/approach: In order to identify and eliminate such kind of non-value added waste, the authors draw a current value stream map and a future value stream map of the SM6 series products in one electric- equipment-manufacturing enterprise. By analyzing the value stream mapping of the whole process of SM6 series products, the authors find hidden wastes and non-value-added activities, and then the authors use industrial engineering "ECRS principle" and "5W2H principle” to adjust and make new production plan model, including the analysis and evaluation of the production process, production line layout and other aspects, then, the authors optimize the working process and set up a new production process. Findings and Originality/value: By using Kanban and other lean concepts and techniques, the authors finally achieved pull mode of production (just-in-time production), and shorten production cycle, reduce inventory of semi-finished product and end product, eliminate excess production, and save labor cost, realize the "5S" management mode effectively. Practical implications: The successful application of pull mode of production in the SM6 series products has set an example in implementing lean activities for the company’s other product series and most other manufacturing enterprise, Social implications: it also has a significance guiding for value stream mapping and lean thinking to be practiced in Chinese manufacturing enterprise and other industries.

        Coupling relevance vector machine and response surface for geomechanical parameters identification

        Geomechanics parameters are critical to numerical simulation, stability analysis, design and construction of geotechnical engineering. Due to the limitations of laboratory and in situ experiments, back analysis is widely used in geomechancis and geotechnical engineering. In this study, a hybrid back analysis method, that coupling numerical simulation, response surface (RS) and relevance vector machine (RVM), was proposed and applied to identify geomechanics parameters from hydraulic fracturing. RVM was adapted to approximate complex functional relationships between geomechanics parameters and borehole pressure through coupling with response surface method and numerical method. Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm was used to search the geomechanics parameters as optimal method in back analysis. The proposed method was verified by a numerical example. Based on the geomechanics parameters identified by hybrid back analysis, the computed borehole pressure agreed closely with the monitored borehole pressure. It showed that RVM presented well the relationship between geomechanics parameters and borehole pressure, and the proposed method can characterized the geomechanics parameters reasonably. Further, the parameters of hybrid back analysis were analyzed and discussed. It showed that the hybrid back analysis is feasible, effective, robust and has a good global searching performance. The proposed method provides a significant way to identify geomechanics parameters from hydraulic fracturing.
