        Preparation of Durable Antibacterial Cellulose with AgCl Nanoparticles

        In this study, a facile method was developed to coat AgCl nanoparticles (NPs) onto knitted cotton fabrics. The AgCl NPs were characterized by ultraviolet absorption spectrum, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and dynamic laser light scattering (DLS). The AgCl NPs were coated onto cotton fabrics through a pad-dry-cure process with the assistance of 1,2,3,4- butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ICP-OES analysis and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) confirmed that AgCl NPs were successfully coated onto cotton fabrics. The prepared cotton samples exhibited excellent antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive S. aureus and Gram-negative K. pneumonia bacteria. Rat skin fibroblast cytotoxicity testing demonstrated the treated cotton fabrics to be non-toxic. The washing durability evaluation showed that the antimicrobial function of cotton fabrics was durable to washing. In addition, the wrinkle resistance of the coated cotton fabrics was improved and there was no obvious change in whiteness.

        Durable N-halamine Antibacterial Cellulose Based on Thiol-ene Click Chemistry

        Antibacterial cotton fabrics were prepared with 3-allyl-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (ADMH) by UV photoinitiated thiol-ene click chemistry after 3-mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane (MPTES) was introduced on the surface of cotton fabrics. The treated cotton fabrics were characterized by SEM, FT-IR and EDS. After chlorination with diluted sodium hypochlorite, the treated samples showed good antibacterial efficacy against S. aureus and E. coli O157:H7. About 106 of S. aureus and E. coli O157:H7 could be completely inactivated within 1 min and 5 min of contact, respectively. Compared to the control samples, the antibacterial treatment method used in this study only had a minor effect on the tensile strength of cotton fabrics. Besides, the treated cotton fabrics showed good storage stability and 77 % of the active chlorine remained after 30 days. After exposure to bleach solution, almost all of the active chlorine was restored. The prepared antimicrobial cotton fabrics showed good washing and UV light stability.

        I-Detectability of Networked Discrete Event Systems by Matrix Approach

        State estimation is the primary concern in system analysis and control issues, especially for complex networked systems. This paper explores the influence of communication delays on the initial-state detectability of networked discrete event systems (NDESs). Firstly, the communication delays are hypothesized to be upper bounded through the observation channel, and the notion of networked initial-state (NI) detectability is proposed and lucubrated. Subsequently, according to the semi-tensor product (STP) of matrices, the dynamics affected by bounded delays could be perfectly depicted by a reachable matrix. Then, these algebraic criteria of NI detectability: strongly NI and weakly NI detectability, can be converted into checking some constructed matrix. Meanwhile, two algorithms are developed to verify the detectability based on a novel algebraic framework. Lastly, one prototypical numeric example is provided to validate the effectiveness of our theoretical approach. Note that the current results will help us to further investigate the detectability-based enforcement of networked systems.

        Influence of axial clearance on the performance characteristics of a turbopump

        To evaluate the influence of axial clearance on the performance characteristics in turbopumps, numerical simulations of an entire flow passage were carried out. The simulations were validated by performance characteristic experiments. The progress of the reciprocating axial movement in the rotor between the front and back covers was disassembled into five fixed clearances groups. Hump characteristic occurs at the same flow rate under these clearances groups. The hydraulic loss of the inducer-impeller was clearly influenced by the clearances. In particular, the hydraulic loss of the impeller changes significantly at the low flow rate under the ±0.3 mm clearance. With the increase of the flow rate, the effect of the clearance change on the flow is weakened. An innovative entropy production analysis was also performed. The distribution of the high local entropy production rate at the impeller inlet under the 0 mm clearance and at the impeller outlet under the −0.15 mm and −0.3 mm clearances overlapped with the vortex caused by flow separation, and the counterpart at the back cover is concentrated around the clearance structures, thereby leading to high hydraulic loss.

        Integrated Radial-axial Magnetic Bearing with Variable Permanent-Magnet Bias Flux In Situ

        Bias magnetic fl ux plays a crucial role in the performance of active magnetic bearings. However, the bias fl ux produced by NdFeB or SmCo materials in traditional permanent-magnet (PM) bias bearings cannot be adjusted, resulting in infl exible bearing performance. To improve the controllability of the PM bias fl ux in the integrated radial-axial magnetic bearing (RAMB), this article proposes a new design that uses a low coercivity AlNiCo magnet and equips a magnetization coil. By controlling the current of the magnetization coil, the magnetization state and bias fl ux of the AlNiCo magnet can be adjusted in situ, thereby improving the force characteristics and rotor iron losses of the PM-biased RAMB. The designed RAMB is analyzed and verifi ed by the 3D fi nite element method and the analytical model based on Preisach’s hysteresis theory and magnetic circuit method. The proposed design off ers a new idea for magnetic bearing structure and control.

        Preparation and sinterability of submicron titanium carbide powders synthesized with phenolic resin as carbon source by carbothermal reduction

        Titanium carbide powders were synthesized under an argon atmosphere using titanium dioxide and pyrolysis carbon derivedfrom pyrolyzed phenolic resin as raw materials. The effects of synthesis temperature, holding time, and C/Ti molar ratio onthe phase composition and morphology of the synthesized powders were investigated. The results show that the pyrolyzedphenolic resin at 1000 ℃ is a carbon source composed of amorphous and crystalline carbon. Increasing the C/Ti molar ratio ofthe mixed powder can reduce the content of titanium oxide impurity, indicating the improvement in the purity of TiC powder. In addition, the C/Ti molar ratio can also significantly affect the morphology of the synthesized TiC powders. SEM and EDSresults exhibit that the atomic content on the surface of TiC particles is closely correlated with the atomic distribution on thesurface of the particles. TiC powder with a median particle size of 384 nm could be synthesized at 1500 ℃ for 30 min at the C/Ti molar ratio of 2.3:1. In addition, the sinterability of the synthesized TiC powder was preliminarily discussed. The hardnessand fracture toughness of the TiC ceramic sintered at 2000 ℃ under 40 MPa with a dwell time of 2 h are 15.92 GPa and 3.22MPa·m1/2, respectively.
