      • The Deviation Characteristics of High-speed Train Running Time in Section and its Effect on Transport Capacity

        Starting from the phenomenon that a large number of trains’ actual arrival & departure time deviate from specified time in train working diagram in the database of high speed railway dispatching system, the paper analyzes the defects of current train running time calculation method. Based on data mining theory, a section running time deviation calculation model for high speed railway train is proposed. Then the properties of train section running time deviation are studied in three different cases (non-stop both at the start and the end of section, stop at the end of section, and departure at the start of section) with the data from a Chinese railway bureau dispatching system, and its further influence on carrying capacity is analyzed. The results show that three deviation cases all fit Gauss distribution and the accumulative deviation time can increase the transport capacity for more than 1 million passengers per year.

        A Three-Dimensional ZnO/CdS/NiFe Layered Double Hydroxide Photoanode Coupled with a Cu2O Photocathode in a Tandem Cell for Overall Solar Water Splitting

        An integrated tandem photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell, composed of a three-dimensional (3D) ZnO/CdS/NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) core/shell/hierarchical nanowire arrays (NWAs) photoanode and a p-Cu2O photocathode, was designed for unassisted overall solar water splitting in this study. The optical and photoelectrochemical characteristics of ZnO-based photoanodes and Cu2O photocathode were investigated. The results show that ZnO/CdS/NiFe LDH nanostructures offer significantly enhanced performances with a photocurrent density reaching 5.8 mA · cm -2 at 0.9 V and an onset potential as early as 0.1 V (versus RHE). The enhancement can be attributed to the existence of CdS nanoparticles (NPs) which boosts the light absorption in visible region and enhances charge separation. Moreover, the introduction of NiFe LDH nanoplates, with unique hierarchical mesoporous architecture, promotes electrochemical reactions by providing more active sites as co-catalyst. On the above basis, the ZnO/CdS/NiFe LDH–Cu2O two-electrode tandem cell system was established. At zero bias, the device shows a photocurrent density of 0.4 mA · cm -2 along with the corresponding solar-to-hydrogen (STH) conversion efficiency reaching 0.50%. Our results indicate that the tandem PEC cells consisting of metal–oxide–semiconductor photoelectrodes based on Earth-abundant and low-cost materials hold promising application potential for overall solar water splitting.

        Malus toringoides (Rehd.) Hughes Ameliorates Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease with Diabetes via Downregulation of SREBP-1c and the NF-κB Pathway In Vivo and In Vitro

        Diabetic patients are more prone to developing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) compared with healthy people. As a plant homologous to both medicine and food, Malus toringoides (Rehd.) Hughes has been used as an intervention for both NAFLD and diabetes. However, the effect and mechanism of M. toringoides on NAFLD on type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is unclear. The current investigation was designed to evaluate the ameliorative effects and mechanism of M. toringoides ethanol extract (CBTM-E375) on T2DM, and to identify the compounds in these extracts. The effects of CBTM-E375 on T2DM were verified using a high-fat diet-/streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat and free fatty acid (0.5 mM)-induced human hepatocellular carcinoma cell (HepG2) models. The components of CBTM-E375 were identified by high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry. Our results demonstrate that CBTM-E375 ameliorated lipid accumulation (total cholesterol, triglyceride), oxidative stress (superoxide dismutase, catalase, malondialdehyde, glutathione peroxidase), and inflammation (tumor necrosis factor-α [TNF-α], interleukin [IL]-1β, IL-6, C-reactive protein [CRP]) in vivo and in vitro, these effects were associated with a CBTM-E375-mediated downregulation of SREBP-1c (sterol regulatory element binding protein 1c) and the NF-κB (nuclear factor κB) signaling pathway. A total of 20 chemical compounds were identified in CBTM-E375, including phlorizin, isoquercitrin, chlorogenic acid, quercetin, naringenin, and trigonelline, which have been reported to have positive effects on diabetes or on NAFLD.

        Effect of pulse electrodeposition parameters on electrocatalytic the activity of methanol oxidation and morphology of Pt/C catalyst for direct methanol fuel cells

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The electrodeposition technique for preparing direct methanol fuel cell electrodes has been developed to increase the Pt utilization and lower the Pt loading. The performance of the Pt/C electrode for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) was optimized by adjusting the electrodeposition parameters such as applied electrical signal types, ratios of t<SUB>on</SUB>/t<SUB>off</SUB>, deposition temperatures, and electrolyte concentrations, systematically. Furthermore, the effects of two kinds of additives, i.e. polyethylene glycol (PEG) and sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS), on the catalytic performance and morphology of Pt catalyst were investigated for MOR by SEM, XRD, cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry. The results show that the optimal Pt catalyst has been prepared by the square wave current method with t<SUB>on</SUB>/t<SUB>off</SUB> of 1 s/5 s at 30 °C in a 1.0 mmol L<SUP>−1</SUP> H<SUB>2</SUB>PtCl<SUB>6</SUB> solution with a 10<SUP>−4</SUP> mmol L<SUP>−1</SUP> PEG additive. Moreover, the effect of the additive type and amount on the formation mechanism of the Pt crystallite morphology has also been discussed.         Bilge keel design for the traditional fishing boats of Indonesia's East Java

        Seakeeping, especially for the roll motions, is of critical importance to the safe operation of fishing boats in Indonesia. In this study, a traditional East Java Fishing Boat (EJFB) has been analysed in terms of its seakeeping performance. Furthermore, a bilge keel was designed to reduce the roll motions of the EJFB using multiple stages approach. After installing the designed bilge keels, it was shown that up to 11.78% and 4.87% reduction in the roll response of irregular seaways and the total resistance under the design speed, respectively. It was concluded that the roll-stabilized-EJFB will enhance the well-being of the fisherman and contribute to the boats' safe operation, especially in extreme weather conditions. Moreover, the total resistance reduction of the EJFB due to the installation of the designed bilge keels also resulted in increased operational efficiency and reduced fuel costs and fuel emissions for local stakeholders.
