Least Square Channel Estimation for Two-Way Relay MIMO OFDM Systems

This letter considers the channel estimation for two-way relay MIMO OFDM systems. A least square (LS) channel estimation algorithm under block-based training is proposed. The mean square error (MSE) of the LS channel estimate is computed, and the optimal training sequences with respect to this MSE are derived. Some numerical examples are presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed channel estimation method.
Performance of Two-User Two-Way Amplify-and-Forward Relaying Systems with Scheduling

In this paper, we study scheduling schemes for two-user two-way wireless relaying systems. Two transmission modes are considered: point-to-point direct transmission and two-way amplify-and-forward relaying. An optimal scheduling scheme that opportunistically selects the best transmission mode for each user is proposed to minimize the sum bit error rate (BER). The performance lower bound of the optimal scheduling scheme is analyzed, and closed-form expression of the lower-bound BER is derived. However, for optimal scheduling, the scheduler requires the knowledge of channel state information (CSI) of all links. To reduce the feedback information of CSI, we also propose a suboptimal scheduling scheme that selects the transmission mode using only the CSI of two direct links. Simulation results show that there are 4 dB to 8 dB gains for the proposed optimal and suboptimal schemes over the fixed direct transmission and fixed two-way relayed transmission scheme. The performance gap between the optimal and suboptimal scheduling schemes is small, which implies a good trade-off between implementation complexity and system performance.
Coordinated Direct and Relayed Transmission based on NOMA and Backscattering

We propose a spectral-efficient coordinated direct and relayed transmission (CDRT) scheme for a relay-assisted downlink system with two users. The proposed scheme is based on backscatter communication (BC) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique. With the proposed BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme, both users can receive one packet within one time slot. In contrast, in existing NOMA-CDRT schemes, the far user is only able to receive one packet in two time slots due to the half-duplex operation of the relay. We investigate the outage of the BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme, and derive the outage probability expressions in closed-form based on Gamma distribution approximation and Gaussian approximation. Numerical results show that the analytical results are accurate and the BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme outperforms the conventional NOMA-CDRT significantly.

This paper proposes a cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based two-way transmission scheme for a two-user cellular system, in which a base station (BS) exchanges information with a directlink user and an indirect link user. With superimposition coding, physical-layer network coding (PLNC) and successive interference cancellation, the BS and the two users are able to exchange messages within three time slots. We derive the sum-rate upper bound of the proposed scheme and investigate the optimal time and power allocations to maximize the sum-rate bound. Numerical results demonstrate that the derived bound is tight and the proposed scheme can improve the sum-rates significantly as compared with existing NOMA-based schemes.
