      • The Rise of Sikh Empire and Its Influence on the Indian Subcontinent

        Huazhong Tu(Huazhong Tu),Yili Zhang(Yili Zhang),Jianhong Wang(Jianhong Wang) 아시아사회과학학회 2022 Jornal of Asia Social Science Vol.9 No.1

The Sikh Empire was a major power in the Indian subcontinent during the 19th century. It was founded by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1799 and lasted until its annexation by the British Empire in 1849. The empire was based in the Punjab region, and its capital was the city of Lahore. Maharaja Ranjit Singh unified the various Sikh factions in the region and expanded the empire to include much of the Punjab, as well as parts of present-day Afghanistan, Kashmir. The Sikh Empire was known for its religious tolerance and military prowess, and it was a major regional power in South Asia. The culture of the empire was a mix of Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh traditions. The empire was eventually defeated by the British Raj in the Second Anglo-Sikh War, but its legacy remains to this day. This essay explores the Sikh Empire's ascent from the late 18th century to its fall in the middle of the 19th century. and its lasting impact on the Indian subcontinent. It looks at the rise of the Sikh Empire under the leadership of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the consolidation of the Sikh Empire, and how its political and military power was used to shape the region. It considers the political influence of the Sikh Empire, its impact on culture, art, and literature, and how it left a legacy of religious and political tolerance and an appreciation of diversity in the region. The demise of the Sikh Empire and its legacy in contemporary India are covered last. The paper concludes that the Sikh Empire had a significant part in shaping the Indian subcontinent's history and culture.

Dynamic responses after rotor drops onto a new-type active eliminating protective clearance touchdown bearing

Yili Zhu,Yanhong Zhang,Chengtao Yu 대한기계학회 2020 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.34 No.6

A new-type active touchdown bearing (TDB) system integrated with a centering device to eliminate the protective clearance after rotor drop in an active magnetic bearing (AMB) system is proposed. A rotor dynamic model is established on the basis of rigid rotor theory. A collision model between the support base and outer race of the ball bearing and a real-time ball bearing elastic supporting force model are established on the basis of Hertz contact theory. The dynamic model of the new-type TDB is established on the basis of vibration theory. Using these established theoretical models, the dynamic responses after rotor drops onto the new-type TDB are simulated and compared with the responses after rotor drops onto traditional TDB. Relevant experiments are conducted on an AMB test platform to verify the simulation results. The results show that the proposed new-type TDB can rapidly eliminate the protective clearance after rotor drop and can thus effectively reduce the following rotor vibrations and impacts.

A fractal model for predicting thermal contact conductance considering elasto-plastic deformation and base thermal resistances

JinHua Zhang,Yili Liu,Ke Yan,Bin Fang 대한기계학회 2019 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.33 No.1

A prediction model of thermal contact conductance is developed. Engineering rough surfaces are characterized by three-dimensional fractal Weierstrass-Mandelbrot fractal function. Three deformation modes, including fully plastic deformation, elasto-plastic deformation and elastic deformation, are considered to analyze the contact mechanism. Fractal surface and three deformation modes are incorporated into the calculation of thermal contact conductance. A comprehensive thermal contact conductance computation model considering both base thermal resistance and constricted thermal resistance is established. The results show that thermal contact conductance increases with the increase of normal contact pressure; the relative contribution of constricted resistance component to base resistance component tends to increase with the increase of normal contact pressure; fractal dimension and fractal roughness both have significant influences on thermal contact conductance.

Utilizing bee foraging behavior in mutational salp swarm for feature selection: a study on return-intentions of overseas Chinese after COVID-19

        Xing Jie,Zhao Qinqin,Chen Huiling,Zhang Yili,Zhou Feng,Zhao Hanli 한국CDE학회 2023 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.10 No.6

We present a bee foraging behavior-driven mutational salp swarm algorithm (BMSSA) based on an improved bee foraging strategy and an unscented mutation strategy. The improved bee foraging strategy is leveraged in the follower location update phase to break the fixed range search of salp swarm algorithm, while the unscented mutation strategy on the optimal solution is employed to enhance the quality of the optimal solution. Extensive experimental results on public CEC 2014 benchmark functions validate that the proposed BMSSA performs better than nine well-known metaheuristic methods and seven state-of-the-art algorithms. The binary BMSSA (bBMSSA) algorithm is further proposed for feature selection by using BMSSA as the selection strategy and support vector machine as the classifier. Experimental comparisons on 12 UCI datasets demonstrate the superiority of bBMSSA. Finally, we collected a dataset on the return-intentions of overseas Chinese after coronavirus disease (COVID-19) through an anonymous online questionnaire and performed a case study by setting up a bBMSSA-based feature selection optimization model. The outcomes manifest that the bBMSSA-based feature selection model exhibits a conspicuous prowess, attaining an accuracy exceeding 93%. The case study shows that the development prospects, the family and job in the place of residence, seeking opportunities in China, and the possible time to return to China are the critical factors influencing the willingness to return to China after COVID-19.

Oncogenic E3 ubiquitin ligase NEDD4 binds to KLF8 and regulates the microRNA-132/NRF2 axis in bladder cancer

        Mao Minghuan,Yang Liang,Hu Jingyao,Liu Bing,Zhang Xiling,Liu Yili,Wang Ping,Li Hangyu 생화학분자생물학회 2022 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.54 No.-

The neuronally expressed developmentally downregulated 4 (NEDD4) gene encodes a ubiquitin ligase that targets the epithelial sodium channel for degradation and has been implicated in tumor growth in various cancers. Hence, in this study, we intended to characterize the functional relevance of the NEDD4-mediated Kruppel-like factor 8/microRNA-132/nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (KLF8/miR-132/NRF2) axis in the development of bladder cancer. NEDD4 and KLF8 were overexpressed in bladder cancer tissues and were associated with poorer patient survival rates. In bladder cancer cells, NEDD4 intensified the stability and transcriptional activity of KLF8 through ubiquitination to augment cell viability and migratory ability. Our investigations revealed that NEDD4 promotes the binding of KLF8 to the miR-132 promoter region and inhibits the expression of miR-132. KLF8 inhibited the expression of miR-132 to augment the viability and migratory ability of bladder cancer cells. Furthermore, miR-132 downregulated the expression of NRF2 to restrict the viability and migratory ability of bladder cancer cells. In addition, in vivo findings verified that NEDD4 regulates the KLF8/miR-132/NRF2 axis by accelerating tumor growth and lung metastasis. In conclusion, this study highlights NEDD4 as a potential therapeutic target against tumor recurrence and metastasis in bladder cancer.

Analysis of particle motion and wear characteristics for mixed particle sizes in centrifugal pumps

        Yi Li,Haiyang Zhang,Zhe Lin,Guang Zhang,ZuChao Zhu 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.9

In this study, we investigated the effect of particle size distribution (PSD) variations on the particle motion characteristics and wear in centrifugal pumps. We used computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and the discrete element method (DEM) to conduct simulations for one single particle size and five mixed particle sizes. The variation of the PSD had a significant effect on the wear rate of the impeller pressure surface and the volute surface. When the proportion of small particles near the impeller increased, the wear rate decreased. Specifically, at the middle of the impeller, the wear rate changed the most significantly. For volute surfaces 6-7 and 7-8 and the diffusion section, the velocity vectors of the near-wall volute surface showed a greater accumulation of small particles, and the buffering effect on the impact of large particles increased. Thus, the addition of small particles caused the wear rate of the volute surface to decrease.

Weight Gain in Pregnancy, Maternal Age and Gestational Age in Relation to Fetal Macrosomia

        ( Yi Li ),( Qi-fei Liu ),( Dan Zhang ),( Ying Shen ),( Kui Ye ),( Han-lin Lai ),( Hai-qing Wang ),( Chuan-lai Hu ),( Qi-hong Zhao ),( Li Li ) 한국임상영양학회 2015 Clinical Nutrition Research Vol.4 No.2

To investigate the possible risk factors related to macrosomia. Pregnant women and their newborns (n = 1041) were recruited from a cohort study in Maternal and Child Care Center of Hefei from January 2011 to July 2012. Questionnaires were applied to collect the demographic data besides the medical records. Detailed health records of the entire pregnancy were obtained using retrospective study. Meanwhile the data of neonatal outcomes was prospectively tracked. Associations between exposure risk factors and macrosomia were analyzed using Pearson’s chi squared test. Logistic regression models were used to assess the independent association between these potential predictors and macrosomia. The incidence of macrosomia of this cohort was 11.24% of which male: female = 2.55:1. Male incidence (8.07%) of macrosomia was higher than female (3.17%), p < 0.001. Body mass index (BMI) before pregnancy (pre-BMI), maternal height, parity were not independently associated with macrosomia; multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that macrosomia was mainly independently associated with weight gain in pregnancy (OR=1.14,95% CI [1.10-1.19]), maternal age (OR = 1.09,95% CI [1.03-1.15]) and gestational age (OR = 1.62,95% CI [1.31-1.99]), respectively. Our findings indicate that weight gain in pregnancy, maternal age and gestational age should be considered as independent risk factors for macrosomia.

MiR-183-5p Promotes Proliferation, Metastasis and Angiogenesis in Breast Cancer Cells through Negatively Regulating Four and a Half LIM Protein 1

        Yi Li,Qing'an Zeng,Jiliang Qiu,Ting Pang,Fenglian Ye,Lin Huang,Xuexia Zhang 한국유방암학회 2020 Journal of breast cancer Vol.23 No.4

Purpose: Four and a half LIM protein 1 (FHL1) is involved in breast cancer (BC) development, but the regulatory mechanism involved remain unclear. In the present study, we examined the role of FHL1 in BC development. Methods: The expression of FHL1, miR-183-5p, and miR-96-5p in BC tissues was analyzed using StarBase analysis. FHL1 expression in BC tissues, a normal human breast epithelial cell line, and BC cell lines was detected using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The relationship between FHL1 and miR-183-5p/miR-96-5p was analyzed via Pearson's rank correlation, TargetScan, and a dual-luciferase reporter assay. BT549 and MDA-MB-231 cells were transfected with either FHL1 and miR-183-5p mimics, or siFHL1 and a miR-183-5p inhibitor, respectively. The viability, colony number, migration, invasion, and tube length of BT549 and MDA-MB-231 cells were examined using cell counting kit-8, colony formation, wound-healing, Transwell, and tube formation assays, respectively. The levels of FHL1, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), p53, E-cadherin, N-cadherin, and vimentin were quantified using western blotting and qRT-PCR. Results: FHL1 expression was downregulated in BC tissues and cells, whereas miR-183-5p and miR-96-5p were upregulated in BC tissues (negative correlation with FHL1 expression). FHL1 overexpression inhibited the viability, colony number, migration, and invasion of BC cells and the expression of VEGF, N-cadherin, and vimentin, and increased the expression of FHL1, p53, and E-cadherin in BT549 cells. Furthermore, a miR-183-5p mimic reversed these effects of FHL1 overexpression, whereas FHL1 silencing caused opposite results to those observed in MDA-MB-231 cells; however, this was reversed by a miR-183-5p inhibitor. Conclusion: Our study suggests that miR-183-5p promotes cell proliferation, metastasis, and angiogenesis by negatively regulating FHL1 in BC.

Numerical Simulation of the Aerodynamic Influence of Aircrafts During Aerial Refueling with Engine Jet

Yi Li,Yang Zhang,Junqiang Bai 한국항공우주학회 2020 International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sc Vol.21 No.1

Aerial refueling technology has been widely applied in various fields and it is one of the hotspots but difficulties for the aeronautical technologies. DLR-F6 WBNP model is used as a tanker and a fighter model is used as a receiver. The flow field of Probe–Drogue refueling and Flying Boom refueling is numerically simulated using the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations, and the effects of the jet flow and the aerodynamic characteristics of the receiver are taken into consideration. The results indicate that the effect of downwash of the tanker reduces the lift coefficient and decreases the pitching moment coefficient of the receiver. The jet flow of tanker increases the dynamic pressure while decreases the local angle of attack, which increases the pressure difference between the upper and lower surfaces of receiver. Compared with the results without jet, the jet flow can increase the lift and the drag of the receiver and reduces the pitching moment, and even cause the change of rolling moment direction. Therefore, engine jet is an important factor when simulating aerial refueling.

Capillarity-Driven Self-Assembly of Silver Nanowires-Coated Fibers for Flexible and Stretchable Conductor

        Yi Li,Jun Chen,Xiao Han,Yinghui Li,Ziqiang Zhang,Yanwen Ma 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2018 NANO Vol.13 No.12

The rapid development of smart textiles requires the large-scale fabrication of conductive fibers. In this study, we develop a simple, scalable and low-cost capillary-driven self-assembly method to prepare conductive fibers with uniform morphology, high conductivity and good mechanical strength. Fiber-shaped flexible and stretchable conductors are obtained by coating highly conductive and flexible silver nanowires (Ag NWs) on the surfaces of yarn and PDMS fibers through evaporation-induced flow and capillary-driven self-assembly, which is proven by the in situ optical microscopic observation. The density of Ag NWs and linear resistance of the conductive fibers could be regulated by tuning the assembly cycles. A linear resistance of 1.4Ω/cm could be achieved for the Ag NWs-coated nylon, which increases only 8% after 200 bending cycle, demonstrating high flexibility and mechanical stability. The flexible and stretchable conductive fibers have great potential for the application in wearable devices.
