SMC3 contributes to heart development by regulating super-enhancer associated genes

        Zhang Bowen,Zhu Yongchang,Zhang Zhen,Wu Feizhen,Ma Xiaojing,Sheng Wei,Dai Ranran,Guo Zhenglong,Yan Weili,Hao Lili,Huang Guoying,Ma Duan,Hao Bingtao,Ma Jing 생화학분자생물학회 2024 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.56 No.-

Abnormal cardiac development has been observed in individuals with Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS) due to mutations in genes encoding members of the cohesin complex. However, the precise role of cohesin in heart development remains elusive. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the indispensable role of SMC3, a component of the cohesin complex, in cardiac development and its underlying mechanism. Our investigation revealed that CdLS patients with SMC3 mutations have high rates of congenital heart disease (CHD). We utilized heart-specific Smc3-knockout (SMC3-cKO) mice, which exhibit varying degrees of outflow tract (OFT) abnormalities, to further explore this relationship. Additionally, we identified 16 rare SMC3 variants with potential pathogenicity in individuals with isolated CHD. By employing single-nucleus RNA sequencing and chromosome conformation capture high-throughput genome-wide translocation sequencing, we revealed that Smc3 deletion downregulates the expression of key genes, including Ets2, in OFT cardiac muscle cells by specifically decreasing interactions between super-enhancers (SEs) and promoters. Notably, Ets2-SE-null mice also exhibit delayed OFT development in the heart. Our research revealed a novel role for SMC3 in heart development via the regulation of SE-associated genes, suggesting its potential relevance as a CHD-related gene and providing crucial insights into the molecular basis of cardiac development.

Blood-Blister Aneurysms of the Internal Carotid Artery in Tibetan and Han Populations : A Retrospective Observational Study

        Bowen Huang,Yanming Ren,Hao Liu,Anqi Xiao,Lunxin Liu,Hong Sun,Yi Liu,Hao Liu,Lu Ma,Chang-Wei Zhang,Chao-Hua Wang,Min He,Yuekang Zhang,Chao You,Jin Li 대한신경외과학회 2024 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.67 No.3

Objective : Blood-blister aneurysms (BBAs) of the internal carotid artery (ICA) are challenging lesions with high morbidity and mortality rates. Although research on BBAs is well documented in different populations, the study of BBAs in the Tibetan population is extremely rare. This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of BBAs and analyze the treatment modalities and long-term outcomes in the Tibetan population in comparison with the Han population. Methods : The characteristics of patients with BBAs of the ICA from January 2009 to January 2021 at our institution were reviewed. The features of aneurysms, treatment modalities, complications, and follow-up outcomes were retrospectively analyzed. Results : A total of 130 patients (41 Tibetan and 89 Han patients) with BBAs of the ICA who underwent treatment were enrolled. Compared with the Han group, the Tibetan group significantly demonstrated a high ratio of BBAs among ICAs (8.6%, 41/477 vs. 1.6%, 89/5563; p<0.05), a high ratio of vasospasm (34.1%, 14/41 vs. 6.7%, 6/89; p=0.001), a high risk of ischemic events (43.9%, 18/41 vs. 22.5%, 20/89; p<0.05), and a low ratio of good outcomes (modified Rankin scale, 0–2) at the 1-year follow-up (51.2%, 21/41 vs. 74.2%, 66/89; p<0.05). The multivariate regression model showed that ischemic events significantly contributed to the prediction of outcomes at 1 year. Further analysis revealed that microsurgery and vasospasm were associated with ischemic events. Conclusion : In comparison with Han patients, the Tibetan population had a high ratio of BBA occurrence, a high incidence of ischemic events, and a high ratio of poor outcomes. The endovascular approach showed more benefits in BBA patients.

Microcapsules derived from Pickering emulsions as thermal latent curing accelerator for epoxy resins

        Bowen Zhang,Yingying Zhao,Xin Sun,Xiaoma Fei,Weiwei Wang,Xiaojie Li,Xiaoya Liu 한국공업화학회 2020 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.83 No.-

Organic-inorganic hybrid microcapsules encapsulating 2-phenylimidazole (2-PhIm) were prepared byPickering emulsion polymerization of styrene and divinyl benzene using methacryloyloxy silanemodifiedsilica particles as the stabilizer, and served as a thermal latent curing accelerator fordiglycidylether of bisphenol A epoxy/anhydride system. The one-component curing compositioncontaining 5 wt% of the microcapsules exhibited an excellent storage stability. The pot life at roomtemperature was as long as 30 days, while which of 2-PhIm curing system was only 2 days. At elevatedtemperature, the encapsulated 2-PhIm could be released from microcapsules effectively, and instantlyaccelerated the curing reaction. Meanwhile, the addition of microcapsules did not cause an adverse effecton the thermomechanical performance of the epoxy thermosets. In addition, the latency and curingbehavior could be facilely regulated at a wide range of temperature by adjusting monomer ratios of thepolymer matrix, to match different process temperatures. The microcapsules with robust cross-linkedpolystyrene matrix structure also showed good resistance to shearing forces, indicating their feasibilityfor high-speed mixing or kneading process in practical applications. It is suggested that the novel latentcuring accelerator is potential for high-performance one-pot epoxy formulations, particularlyrecommended for application in electronic packagingfields.

Metallogenesis and hydrothermal evolution of the Saibo copper deposit in the western Tianshan: evidence from fluid inclusions, H-O-S isotopes, and Re-Os geochronology

        Bowen Zhang,Xiaofei Tang,Chuan Chen,Xiaoping Gong,Chunmei Su 한국지질과학협의회 2023 Geosciences Journal Vol.27 No.1

The Saibo copper polymetallic deposit, located in the West Tianshan Sailimu-Sitaihaiquan copper lead and zinc ore belt, is a new breakthrough in medium-large copper mine. Through the thin section authentication and the thermometric analysis of fluid inclusion, it is concluded that skarnization was developed in this deposit, the mineralization stage can be divided into retrograde skarn stage (S1), quartz-sulfide stage (S2) and quartz-carbonate stage (S3). Fluid inclusions (FIs) were distinguished as liquid-rich aqueous FIs (LV-type), vapor-rich aqueous FIs (VL-type), and NaCl daughter mineral-bearing three phase FIs (S-type). The mineralization fluids indicate that the initial stage (S1 stage) is of high temperature and high salinity, with a handful of metallicmatters. During the main metallogenic stage (S2 stage), the meteoric water is mixed, the temperature and salinity gradually decrease, the fluid is distinctly boiling, and a large amount of metallic matters are precipitated, and then to the S3 stage, when the temperature and salinity decrease along with the carbonation. Chalcopyrite Re-Os dating yielded a mineralization age of 379.2 ± 7.7 Ma, which corresponds well with the zircon U-Pb age (385.9 ± 1.3 Ma) of the granite porphyry. The C-H-O isotopes indicate that the ore-forming fluid was dominated by initial mixed magmatic water in the early stage and by meteoric water in the late stage, and C is derived from limestone strata metasomatized by magmatic fluids. The S and Pb isotopes indicate that the ore-forming materials are derived from the mixed crust-mantle source, of which S is almost entirely derived from the mantle, while Pb is mainly derived from the crustal material of the orogenic belt. On the whole, the Saibo copper deposit is a typical calcium skarn type deposit, which formed in the shallower setting at active continental margin in the Late Devonian period.

Preparation of new visible-light driven nanocomposite photocatalysts, X/NaTaO3/Er3+:YAlO3 (X = Ag, Au and Pt), for photocatalytic conversion of Cr(VI)

        Bowen Li,Yidi Wang,Fangyuan Tian,Guanshu Li,Zhaohong Zhang,Jun Wang,Youtao Song 한국공업화학회 2017 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.54 No.-

In order to expand the light response range of wide band-gap semiconductor photocatalyst (NaTaO3) for effective photocatalytic conversion of Cr(VI), an up-conversion luminescence agent (Er3+:YAlO3) is combined with NaTaO3 and a visible-light driven photocatalyst, NaTaO3/Er3+:YAlO3, is prepared. Moreover, several conduction band co-catalysts (Ag, Au and Pt) are deposited the surface of NaTaO3/Er3+: YAlO3, respectively, to facilitate the transfer rate of photo-generated electrons. X-ray diffractometer (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses are employed to confirm the morphology, microstructure and composition of the prepared photocatalysts. In addition, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra are determined to explore the visible-light absorption properties of Er3+:YAlO3, NaTaO3, NaTaO3/Er3+:YAlO3 and X/NaTaO3/Er3+:YAlO3 (X = Ag, Au and Pt). Photoluminescence (PL) spectra are used to estimate the recombination rate of electron–hole pairs. The effects of irradiation time, photosource kind, solution acidity and used times on the photocatalytic capabilities of NaTaO3/Er3+:YAlO3 and X/NaTaO3/Er3+:YAlO3 (X = Ag, Au and Pt) are investigated in detail. The results show that the uses of up-conversion luminescence agent (Er3+:YAlO3) and co-catalysts (Ag, Au and Pt) can promote NaTaO3 to utilize visible-light to carry out the photocatalytic conversion of Cr(VI). Particularly, the prepared Au/NaTaO3/Er3+:YAlO3 nanocomposite with 1.0 wt% Au and 0.3:1.0 molar ratio of Er3+:YAlO3 and NaTaO3 shows the highest photocatalytic activity in conversion of Cr(VI).

Dynamic analysis of the dual-rotor system considering the defect size uncertainty of the inter-shaft bearin

Bowen Tian,Zeyang Yu,Liyang Xie,Yu Zhang 대한기계학회 2022 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.36 No.2

In this paper, the stochastic dynamic analysis of a dual-rotor system with a local defect on the inner raceway of the inter-shaft bearing is presented. The dynamic model of the dual-rotor system is also proposed. The defect size and its uncertainty are considered. The non-intrusive polynomial chaos expansion model is utilized to deal with the uncertainty of the defect size, and the validity of the model is verified. The probability density distribution of vibration displacements for the dual-rotor system is obtained. Results indicate that the mean value (MV) and standard deviation (SD) of the defect edge length have extremely significant effects on the displacement distribution of high-pressure rotor. The coefficients of variation of the displacements along x 2 and φ x directions for high-pressure rotor increase by 6.56 and 7.06 times, respectively. When the MV of the defect edge length increases by three times, 3.46 times, and 3.69 times, its SD increases by five times. The increase of eccentricity has opposite effects on the vibration displacements of high- and low-pressure rotors. The variation of the radial clearance of the inter-shaft bearing has a complex influence on the dual-rotor system. As the radial clearance increases, the displacement dispersion of the low-pressure rotor along θ x direction is almost unchanged. However, that along x 1 direction is increased.

Circuit Model for the Effect of Nonradiative Recombination in a High-Speed Distributed-Feedback Laser

        Bowen Nie,Zhijuan Chi,Qing-an Ding,Xiang Li,Changqing Liu,Xiaojuan Wang,Lijun Zhang,Juan Song,Chaofan Li 한국광학회 2020 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.4 No.5

Based on single-mode rate equations, we present an improved equivalent-circuit model for distributedfeedback (DFB) lasers that accounts for the effects of parasitic parameters and nonradiative recombination. This equivalent-circuit model is composed of a parasitic circuit, an electrical circuit, an optical circuit, and a phase circuit, modeling the circuit equations transformed from the rate equations. The validity of the proposed circuit model is verified by comparing simulation results to measured results in the literature. The results show that the slope efficiency and threshold current of the model are 0.22 W/A and 13 mA respectively. It is also shown that increasing bias current results in the increase of the relaxation-oscillation frequency. Moreover, we show that the larger the bias current, the lower the frequency chirp, increasing the possibility of extending the transmission distance of an optical-fiber communication system. The results indicate that the proposed circuit model can accurately predict a DFB laser’s static and dynamic characteristics.

Spindle Spinel CoFeCoO4 Microparticles/rGO as an Oxygen Reduction and Oxygen Evolution Catalyst

        Bowen Wang,Nian Tao,Junchen Liu,Hao Wang,Yinxiao Du,Hujiang Yang,Yonggang Wang,Kai Huang,Ru Zhang,Ming Lei 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2019 NANO Vol.14 No.4

The representative spinel-type materials AB2O4 (both A and B are transition metals) electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) have been investigated and significant improvements have been achieved in the activity and durability for ORR and OER in the alkaline solution. But CoFeCoO4 was not explored widely like ZnCo2O4 (or NiCo2O4) as the ORR electrocatalyst for its relatively complicated atomic site occupation. CoFeCoO4 has a typical cubic spinel structure with Co2+ in the tetrahedron and Co3+ and Fe3+ in the octahedron. A mixture of Co3+ and Fe3+ in the B site makes the oxide have a wider overlap between transition metal 3d orbit and O 2p orbit, which can lead to an effective charge transfer in the rate-determining steps of ORR process and then enhance the ORR activity. The high electronic conductivity and specific surface area of rGO can accelerate charger transfer and provide more catalytic sites, which would contribute to a faster ORR process. In this work, the porous spindle CoFeCoO4 microparticles which were synthesized by hydrothermal technology, were assembled on the rGO surface to obtain the CoFeCoO4/rGO composite, which exhibited enhanced ORR activity and catalytic stability comparable to that of Pt/C. On the other hand, the OER catalytic activity of the prepared samples was also studied to explore the potential of CoFeCoO4/rGO as a bifunctional oxygen catalyst.

On the equivalence of reaction rate in energy collapsing of fast reactor code SARAX

        Xiao, Bowen,Wei, Linfang,Zheng, Youqi,Zhang, Bin,Wu, Hongchun Korean Nuclear Society 2021 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.53 No.3

Scattering resonance of medium mass nuclides leads complex spectrum in the fast reactor, which requires thousands of energy groups in the spectrum calculation. When the broad-group cross sections are collapsed, reaction rate cannot be completely conserved. To eliminate the error from energy collapsing, the Super-homogenization method in energy collapsing (ESPH) was employed in the fast reactor code SARAX. An ESPH factor was derived based on the ESPH-corrected SN transport equation. By applying the factor in problems with reflective boundary condition, both the effective multiplication factor and reaction rate were conserved. The fixed-source iteration was used to ensure the stability of ESPH iteration. However, in the energy collapsing process of SARAX, the vacuum boundary condition was adopted, which was necessary for fast reactors with strong heterogeneity. To further reduce the error caused by leakage, an additional conservation factor was proposed to correct the neutron current in energy collapsing. To evaluate the performance of ESPH with conservation factor, numerical benchmarks of fast reactors were calculated. The results of broad-group calculation agreed well with the direct full-core Monte-Carlo calculation, including the effective multiplication factor, radial power distribution, total control rod worth and sodium void worth.
