Production of Hydrogen and Carbon Nanotubes from Methane
Zein, Sharif Hussein Sharif,Mohamed, Abdul Rahman,Sai, P. Sesha Talpa,Zabidi, Noor Asmawati Mohd 한국공업화학회 2004 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.10 No.6
The decomposition of methane to produce hydrogen and carbon has been investigated experimentally using 15 ㏖% M/20 ㏖% NiO/TiO₂catalysts (where M = MnO_x, FeO, CoO, and CuO). The physical properties of these catalysts were obtained and their performances were evaluated for the conversion of methane and the CO and hydrogen yields. These catalysts were used in the experiments without any pretreatment. XRD patterns and TEM images of these catalysts show the morphological changes that are due to dopant addition. The results indicate the remarkable influence on the catalytic activity provided by doping. While different types of filamentous carbons are formed on the various Ni-containing catalysts, attractive carbon nanotubes were observed on the Mn/Ni/TiO₂-based catalyst. TEM studies on the used catalyst suggest that its stability depends on growth rate and the morphological structure of the formed carbon.
Translanguaging and Multiliteracies in the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Classroom
Zein Subhan 한국영어교육학회 2022 ENGLISH TEACHING(영어교육) Vol.77 No.-
In our extremely technologized world, enabling students to use a variety of media and modes in learning is an important component of the 21st century education. It is necessary to foster communication with diverse audiences and to encourage students to become critical designers of technologically mediated communications. Translanguaging and multiliteracies as approaches in applied linguistics hold promise to achieve these goals in the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classroom. This article discusses translanguaging as a concept, its use in the classroom, and its development as pedagogy. The article also examines the teaching of reading and writing, literacy, multiliteracies, and how the latter relates to the 21st century education. Further, the article discusses the intersections between translanguaging and multiliteracies while drawing out some implications for the ESOL classroom.
Parliamentary Representation of Women in Indonesia : the Struggle for a Quota
Wahidah Zein Br. SIREGAR Ewha Womans University Press 2005 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.11 No.3
The right to vote and stand for parliament has existed since the first Indonesian elections in 1955, but has not resulted in significant numbers of women MPs (members of parliament). This low representation has been challenged by women activists, who have undertaken a long struggle. They were finally able to obtain a 30 percent non-compulsory quota, which was included in the law on general elections (Indonesian Law No. 12 on General Elections, 2003). In the 2004 elections, the success in getting the quota enacted seemed likely to provide momentum for Indonesian women activists to win 30 percent of the parliamentary seats. However, only a small proportion of the seats were won by women in the national, provincial and local parliaments in 2004 (for the 2004-2009 period). Poor participation by women in political parties, which have been dominated by men, and the nature of the electoral system appear to be factors underlying the failure of women in gaining greater representation in the Indonesian parliaments.
SPIN-COHERENT TRANSPORT IN MESOSCOPIC INTERFERENCE DEVICE
WALID A. ZEIN,ADEL H. PHILLIPS,OMAR A. OMAR 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2007 NANO Vol.2 No.6
We investigate the quantum size effect in the phase coherent mesoscopic ring. A quantum dot is embedded in one arm and it is connected to one lead via tunnel barrier. Both Aharonov–Casher and Aharonov–Bohm effects are studied. A spin-dependent conductance has been deduced and it depends on the intrinsic parameters. Our results show that the strength of spin-orbit coupling depends on the size of the present device. This investigation is valuable for fabricating such spintronics devices.

Background/Aims: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has necessitated modifications to allow the safe practice ofclinical gastroenterology and gastrointestinal endoscopy. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of clinical gastroenterologyand gastrointestinal endoscopy practices during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled physician members of the Indonesian Society for Digestive Endoscopy. We used anonline self-administered questionnaire disseminated via social media. The 32-item survey determined the baseline characteristics ofthe participants, characteristics of clinical gastroenterology and gastrointestinal endoscopy practices, involvement of the physiciansin the management of COVID-19, and overall impact of the pandemic on practice. All collected data were analyzed using descriptivestatistics. Results: The 200 participants in this study had a median age of 50 (34–76) years. Modifications in clinical gastroenterology practice werefrequently reported in the outpatient (95.5%) and inpatient (100%) settings. All participants reported changes in the gastrointestinalendoscopy practice patterns. Of the participants, 86.0% were working in high-risk zones, and several of them reported inadequateprotective personal equipment (34.0%). The median overall impact score of the pandemic on practice was 9 (2–10). Conclusions: Physicians practicing clinical gastroenterology and gastrointestinal endoscopy in Indonesia work in high-risk settings. Modifications in clinical gastroenterology and gastrointestinal endoscopy practices are prevalent during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nystatin is commonly employed to treat fungal infections in the mouth. It is not absorbed via the stomach and it will therefore not treat fungal infections in any part of the body other than the mouth. Nystatin buccoadhesive tablets release the drug very slowly due to the poor solubility of nystatin in water and also the presence of polymers with mucoadhesive properties. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to improve drug release from buccoadhesive tablets, while retaining adequate mucoadhesive properties. To this end, a solid dispersion of nystatin: lactose (1:3) was prepared and mixed with xanthan. The effects of hydrophilic surfactants such as cremophor RH40 and Tween 80 on drug release and mucoadhesive properties of nystatin tablets were also investigated as were swelling and erosion indices and strength of bioadhesion in vitro to a biological membrane. The interaction between nystatin and lactose in solid dispersion formulation was investigated by XRPD, FT-IR and DSC. The results showed that a solid dispersion formulation and mucoadhesive tablets containing surfactants led to faster drug release than their simple physical mixtures. Drug release was also faster from a solid dispersion compared to tablets containing surfactants. Swelling and erosion results showed that tablets made of a solid dispersion swelled and eroded faster than a physical mixture formulation. The presence of surfactant slightly increased the degree of swelling and erosion of buccoadhesive tablets.

Electrode materials are the most important factors to verify the properties of the electrochemical supercapacitor. In this paper, the storage principles and characteristics of electrode materials, including carbon-based materials, transition metal oxides and conducting polymers for supercapacitors are depicted in detail. Other factors such as electrode separator and electrolyte are briefly investigated. Recently, several works are conducted on application of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and MWCNTs-based electrode materials for supercapacitors. MWCNTs serve in experimental supercapacitor electrode materials result in specific capacitance (SC) value as high as 135 Fg-1. Addition of pseudocapacitive materials such as transition metal oxides and conducting polymers in the MWCNTs results in electrochemical performance improvement (higher capacitance and conductivity). The nanocomposites of MWCNTs and pseudocapacitive materials are the most promising electrode materials for supercapacitors because of their good electrical conductivity, low cost and high mass density.
