A physics-based constitutive model of porous materials is proposed to enhance the accuracy of numerical analysis in die/isostatic compaction. The correlation between the yield function and equivalent work equation was derived, and the numericalintegration method was modifed with the correlation. It is found that the apparent work of porous materials is lower than theproduct of relative density and equivalent work of solid materials at the beginning of compaction, implying the kinematicmotion of powders and the resultant particle rearrangement. For verifcation of the proposed model, fnite element analyseswere performed for the die/isostatic compaction of three metal powders: Ti, SUS316L, and Al6061 powders. Compared withtwo conventional constitutive models, the proposed model improves the accuracy of the densifcation behaviors in all thestage during die/isostatic compaction. Furthermore, this study is a groundwork to link the densifcation behavior of porousmaterials at bulk scale to the particulate behavior of powders at microscale.
Do Good Writers Use More Ellipses in Writing?

Ellipsis has been analyzed, if at all, as a type of cohesion markers by earlier studies. The underestimation of its importance and the lack of attention it has received has resulted in only few empirical studies analyzing the ellipsis as a primary object of inquiry. At the same time, there are conflicting findings on whether the relationship between ellipsis use and discourse quality is substantially positive or insignificant. Aware of these gaps, this study focuses on ellipsis and its subtypes to examine whether ellipses enhance the quality of writing. The study participants were 315 Korean high school students who wrote stories in English. Their writing samples were analyzed for ellipsis use and writing quality. The findings revealed that ellipsis occurrences in writing had a substantial relationship with the overall writing quality. This result was substantiated by a separate examination of the good vs. poor writer groups: Good writers used a significantly greater number of ellipses than did poor writers. Structural and nominal ellipses were the most prominent types of ellipses while clausal and verbal ellipsis occurred rarely. This pattern was held true for both good and poor writer groups. The current study promotes the status of ellipsis as a definitely contributing factor to good writing.

Low molecular weight collagen peptide (LMWCP) is a collagen hydrolysate derived from fish. We investigated the effects of LMWCP on hair growth using human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs), human hair follicles (hHFs), patch assay, and telogenic C57BL/6 mice, while also examining the underlying mechanisms of its action. LMWCP promoted proliferation and mitochondrial potential, and the secretion of hair growth-related factors, such as EGF, HB-EGF, FGF-4, and FGF-6 in hDPCs. Patch assay showed that LMWCP increased the neogeneration of new HFs in a dose-dependent manner. This result correlated with an increase in the expression of dermal papilla (DP) signature genes such as, ALPL, SHH, FGF7, and BMP-2. LMWCP upregulated phosphorylation of glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) and β-catenin, and nuclear translocation of β-catenin, and it increased the expression of Wnt3a, LEF1, VEGF, ALP, and β-catenin. LMWCP promoted the growth of hHFs and increased the expression of β-catenin and VEGF. Oral administration of LMWCP to mice significantly stimulated hair growth. The expression of Wnt3a, β-catenin, PCNA, Cyclin D1, and VEGF was also elevated in the back skin of the mice. Furthermore, LMWCP increased the expression of cytokeratin and Keratin Type I and II. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that LMWCP has the potential to increase hair growth via activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The adhesion of cancer cells to the extracellular matrix (ECM) is crucial for cell proliferation, survival, and metastasis. Thus, it is necessary to inhibit cell-ECM adhesion by blocking the activation of the associated signaling to control cancer. Here, we identify erybraedin A (EBA) as a potential Src inhibitor that blocks cell adhesion and viability in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). EBA significantly inhibited the adhesion of NSCLC cells to fibronectin. EBA also markedly inhibited the activation of Src and its downstream targets, including FAK and Akt. The interaction between integrin β1 or integrin β3 and Src was inhibited by EBA treatment. A docking study revealed the bindings of EBA to the ATP-binding pocket and the allosteric regulatory site of the Src kinase. Additionally, EBA markedly inhibited the viability and the colony formation of NSCLC cells and induced apoptotic cell death. These results describe novel biological properties of EBA, which can block the Src-mediated adhesion and survival of NSCLC cells, suggesting the potential of EBA as an anticancer Src inhibitor that warrants further development in advanced preclinical and clinical settings.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Erybraedin A inhibited the adhesion of lung cancer cells to fibronectin. </LI> <LI> Erybraedin A suppressed the activation of Src and its downstream targets. </LI> <LI> Erybraedin A inhibited the interaction between integrin β1 or integrin β3 and Src. </LI> <LI> Erybraedin A interacted with the ATP-binding pocket and the regulatory site of Src. </LI> <LI> Erybraedin A inhibited the viability of lung cancer cells by inducing apoptosis. </LI> </UL> </P>
