        Inequalities for dual harmonic quermassintegrals

      • Aldosterone Up-regulates Production of Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 by Renal Mesangial Cells

        In vivo studies have demonstrated that aldosterone is an independent contributor to glomerulosclerosis. In the present study, we have investigated whether aldosterone itself mediated glomerulosclerosis, as angiotensin II (Ang II) did, by inducing cultured renal mesangial cells to produce plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), and whether these effects were mediated by aldosterone-induced increase in transforming growth factor $\beta_1$ (TGF-$\beta_1$) expression and cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) activity. Quiescent rat mesangial cells were treated by aldosterone alone or by combination of aldosterone and spironolactone, Ang II, neutralizing antibody to TGF-$\beta_1$ or antioxidant Nacetylcysteme (NAC). This study indicate that aldosterone can increase PAI-1 mRNA and protein expression by cultured mesangial cells alone, which is independent of aldosterone-induced increases in TGF-$\beta_1$ expression and cellular ROS. The effects on PAI-1, TGF-$\beta_1$ and ROS generation were markedly attenuated by spironolactone, a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist, which demonstrate that mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) may play a role in mediating these effects of aldosterone.

        Biochemical Properties of Skin Collagens Isolated from Black Carp (Mylopharyngodon piceus)

        Acid-soluble collagen (ASC) and pepsin-soluble collagen (PSC) were extracted with the yield of 15.5 and 26.5% on the basis of dry weight from the skin of black carp (Mylopharyngodon piceus). ASC and PSC were similar in amino compositions and subunit compositions,but they were slightly different in the secondary structure. Both of ASC and PSC, either rehydrated in distilled water or in acetic acid, had a lower denaturation temperature than pig skin collagen (PPSC), but their denaturation temperature were higher than that of collagens from other freshwater fish. Intrinsic viscosity of different collagens decreased in the order of PPSC>PSC>ASC. Both of ASC and PSC showed only partial degradation in collagenase solution,but they revealed more sensitive to collagenase compared with PPSC. Black carp skin collagens did not induce a significant cytotoxic effect according to the results of in vitro cytotoxicity test.

        DESIGN OF AN ENERGY MANAGEMENT STRATEGY FOR PARALLEL HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLES USING A LOGIC THRESHOLD AND INSTANTANEOUS OPTIMIZATION METHOD

        A novel parallel hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) configuration consisting of an extra one-way clutch and an automatic mechanical transmission (AMT) is taken as the study subject of this paper. An energy management strategy (EMS) combining a logic threshold approach and an instantaneous optimization algorithm is developed for the investigated PHEV. The objective of this EMS is to achieve acceptable vehicle performance and drivability requirements while simultaneously maximizing engine fuel economy and maintaining the battery state of charge (SOC) in its rational operation range at all times. Under the MATLAB/Simulink environment, a computer simulation model of the studied PHEV is established using the bench test results. Simulation results for the behavior of the engine, motor, and battery illustrate the potential of the proposed control strategy in terms of fuel economy and in keeping the deviations of SOC at a low level.       • 3D Model Retrieval Based on Orthogonal Projections

        Recently with the development of 3D modeling and digitizing tools, more and more models have been created, which leads to the necessity of the technique of 3D mode retrieval system. In this paper we investigate a new method for 3D model retrieval based on orthogonal projections. We assume that 3D models are composed of trigonal meshes. Algorithms process first by a normalization step in which the 3D models are transformed into the canonical coordinates. Then each model is orthogonally projected onto six surfaces of the projected cube which contains it. A following step is feature extraction of the projected images which is done by Moment Invariants and Polar Radius Fourier Transform. The feature vector of each 3D model is composed of the features extracted from projected images with different weights. Our System validates that this means can distinguish 3D models effectively. Experiments show that our method performs quit well.

        Effects of the Potassium Titanate Functional Filler Types on the Thermal Protection Performance of Heat Resistant Ablative Coated Fabrics

        Considering sub-micron potassium titanate whiskers (BX-101), nanoscale potassium titanate whiskers (AX-301), sub-micron potassium titanate whiskers (AX-316) and high strength potassium titanate crystal (AX-319) as functional fillers, heat resistant ablative coated fabrics which have high radiant heat reflectivity were prepared. The effect of the type of functional fller on the thermal protection performance of heat resistant ablative coated fabrics was mainly discussed. Research showed that the microstructure of potassium titanate functional filler had a significant impact on the radiant heat reflectivity and thermal insulation performance of the prepared coated fabric. The coated fabric which took nanoscale potassium titanate whiskers (AX-301) with a minimum diameter and greater length-diameter ratio as functional filler has the highest thermal reflectivity and the best insulation property. Heat ray reflectivity of potassium titanate coated fabrics had positive correlation with their crystallinities. The higher the coated fabric crystallinity was, the greater the heat ray reflectivity. Thermogravimetric analysis results showed that after adding four kinds of potassium titanate fillers, the thermal stability of the prepared coated fabrics was enhanced, and the nanoscale potassium titanate whiskers (AX-301) coated fabrics had the best thermal stability.

        Effects of traditional Chinese medicine Chaihu-Shugan-San aqueous extract on high-fat diet-induced liver steatosis in rats via intestinal microbiota metabolite SCFAs and its receptor Gpr43/109a

        Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common chronic liver diseases in adults around China and the world. The study explores protective effect of traditional Chinese medicine Chaihu-Shugan-San decoction on high-fat diet-induced liver steatosis in rats via intestinal microbiota metabolite short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and its receptor Gpr43/109a. Fifteen male Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups of five rats each: the control group (standard diet), High-fat diet (HFD)-induced NAFLD group (83% standard diet + 10% lard oil + 5% sucrose + 1.5% cholesterol + 0.5% cholate), and Chaihu-Shugan-San (CSS)-treated group (HFD + 9.6 g/kg body weight gastric administration of CSS decoction every day). Body composition, hepatic fat, intestinal mucosal permeability and SCFAs, Gpr43 and Gpr109a expression in colonic tissues were assessed. Compared with NAFLD group, CSS decoction significantly reduced body weight, liver weight, hepatic triglyceride and total cholesterol (P < 0.05), and increased colonic SCFAs and occludin expression. The levels of Gpr43 and Gpr109a also changed significantly (P < 0.05). Protective effect of CSS decoction in HFD-induced NAFLD rats might improve intestinal mucosal permeability and intestinal microbiota metabolite SCFAs through Gpr43 and Gpr109a pathways in colonic tissues.

      • Influences of Doping Methods on Microstructure and Fracture Toughness of Mo-La Alloys

        Lanthanum oxide was introduced to molybdenum powder by liquid-liquid doping and liquid-solid doping respectively. Mo alloys were prepared by powder metallurgy technology. The size distribution and feature of dopant particles and the fractographs of Mo alloys were investigated by TEM and SEM respectively. The results indicated that liquid-liquid doping method is favorable for refining and dispersing particles uniformly in matrix. Fracture toughness of Mo alloys prepared by liquid-liquid doping showed better results than that of liquid-solid doping. Furthermore, the influences of the size distribution of on properties of Mo alloys was discussed by dislocation pile-up theory.

        Flow models of fluidized granular masses with different basal resistance terms

        Proper modelling of the basal resistance terms is key in simulating the motion of fluidized granular flow. In this paper, standard depth-averaged governing equations of granular flow are used together with the classical Coulomb, Voellmy, and velocity dependent friction models (VDFM). A high-resolution modified TVDLF method is implemented to solve the partial differential equations without numerical oscillations. The effects of basal resistance terms on the motion of granular flows such as geometric shape evolution, travel times and final deposits are analyzed. Based on the numerical results, the predictions of the front and rear end positions and developing length of granular flow with Coulomb friction model show excellent agreements with experiment results reported by Hutter et al. (1995), and illustrate the validity of the numerical approach. For the Voellmy model, the higher value of turbulent coefficient than reality may obtain more reasonable predicted runout for the small-scale avalanche or granular flow. The energy exchange laws indicate that VDFM is different from the Coulomb and Voellmy models, although the flow characteristics of both three models fit the measurements and observations very well.
