We report the case of 57-year-old woman diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease and lumbar disk herniation (LDH). She had left leg weakness and foot numbness, foot deformity (muscle atrophy, high arch, and clawed toes). The lumbar spine MRI showed LDH at L4-5. Additionally, electrophysiology results were consistent with chronic peripheral motor-sensory polyneuropathy (axonopathy). In genetic testing, 17p11.2-p12 duplication/deletions characteristic of CMT disease were observed. We confirmed the patient's diagnosis as CMT disease and used conservative treatment.
Neural Growth Factor Stimulates Proliferation of Spinal Cord Derived-Neural Precursor/Stem Cells

Objective : Recently, regenerative therapies have been used in clinical trials (heart, cartilage, skeletal). We don't make use of these treatments to spinal cord injury (SCI) patients yet, but regenerative therapies are rising interest in recent study about SCI. Neural precursor/stem cell (NPSC) proliferation is a significant event in functional recovery of the central nervous system (CNS). However, brain NPSCs and spinal cord NPSCs (SC-NPSCs) have many differences including gene expression and proliferation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of neural growth factor (NGF) on the proliferation of SC-NPSCs. Methods : NPSCs ($2{\times}10^4$) were suspended in $100{\mu}L$ of neurobasal medium containing NGF-7S (Sigma-Aldrich) and cultured in a 96-well plate for 12 days. NPSC proliferation was analyzed five times for either concentration of NGF (0.02 and 2 ng/mL). Sixteen rats after SCI were randomly allocated into two groups. In group 1 (SCI-vehicle group, n=8), animals received 1.0 mL of the saline vehicle solution. In group 2 (SCI-NGF group, n=8), the animals received single doses of NGF (Sigma-Aldrich). A dose of 0.02 ng/mL of NGF or normal saline as a vehicle control was intra-thecally injected daily at 24 hour intervals for 7 days. For Immunohistochemistry analysis, rats were sacrificed after one week and the spinal cords were obtained. Results : The elevation of cell proliferation with 0.02 ng/mL NGF was significant (p<0.05) but was not significant for 2 ng/mL NGF. The optical density was increased in the NGF 0.02 ng/mL group compared to the control group and NGF 2 ng/mL groups. The density of nestin in the SCI-NGF group was significantly increased over the SCI-vehicle group (p<0.05). High power microscopy revealed that the density of nestin in the SCI-NGF group was significantly increased over the SCI-vehicle group. Conclusion : SC-NPSC proliferation is an important pathway in the functional recovery of SCI. NGF enhances SC-NPSC proliferation in vitro and in vivo. NGF may be a useful option for treatment of SCI patients pending further studies to verify the clinical applicability.

일반적인 렌더링 방식은 응용→기하→래스터화로 진행되는 렌더링 파이프라인 상에서 진행된다. 그래픽 카드의 발전으로 기하 단계의 연산을 GPU가 담당함에 따라 CPU의 연산을 줄여 CPU가 많은 연산을 할 수 있게 되었다. 그러나 이 같은 분배로 인해 CPU와 GPU가 서로 끝나기를 기다리는 병목현상이 발생하게 되었다. 이러한 병목 현상은 효율적인 렌더링을 저해하는 요인이다. 본 연구의 목적은 CPU와 GPU의 병렬처리 과정에서 발생하는 병목현상을 줄여 실시간 렌더링에서 그래픽 출력을 더욱 빠르게 하는데 있다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 그래픽 출력 과정 중 CPU 와 GPU 사이에서 하드웨어적으로 처리되고 있는 동기적 처리 과정을 소프트웨어적인 기법을 이용하여 비동기적으로 처리함으로써 성능을 향상시킬 수 있음을 말하고자 한다.

Purpose: There are few reports of postoperative long-term malignant risk or postoperative sequelae after surgery for choledochal cysts (CCs). This study aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics of patients with malignancy and the long-term results of operated CC. Methods: The patients who underwent surgical treatments for CC between 2003 and 2020 at Seoul National University Hospital were enrolled. Clinicopathologic factors and pre-/postoperative computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging were reviewed. Results: Of the 153 patients, Todani classification Ic (36.6%), C-P type (43.8%) anomalous pancreaticobiliary duct union were the most common type respectively. Fourteen patients (9.2%) had biliary tract cancer and a comparison of patients with and without malignancy showed that the diameter of cyst was significantly lower in malignant patients and malignancy was observed to be significantly higher in P-C type. The incidence of long-term complications was 9.8%, and the median time interval was 30 months. The 2 most common complications were cholangitis and stricture (60.0%). There was one case of new cancer near the intrapancreatic remnant bile duct. Conclusion: Of the resected CCs, 9.2% had a combined malignancy on the biliary tracts. Long-term complications such as cholangitis, anastomotic stricture, and new cancers may occur. Therefore, continuous surveillance is required.

A numerical study is conducted for the secondary side screw-type tube inlet orifice design of a once-through steam generator. Various tube plugging conditions and power levels are considered, and the secondary coolant inlet temperature is adjusted to maintain a constant thermal power. Comprehensive numerical solutions are acquired to evaluate the minimum orifice length under various operating conditions, and the required minimum orifice length to suppress the flow oscillation below the allowable level is evaluated. The results obtained show that the lowest power level results in the highest minimum orifice length and non-plugging condition provides a limiting case for the orifice length criterion.
