        조사 구역 상류 지점의 평균 수질은 pH가 7.1, DO가 8.3mg/ℓ, BOD가 1.7mg/ℓ, COD가 1.7mg/ℓ, SS가 15.4mg/ℓ, 분변성 대장균이 1.1x10³ MPN/100ml고 상수원 수 1급 내지 2급의 양호한 상태이고 하류지점의 수질은 pH가 6.8, DO가 7.7mg/ℓ, BOD가 2.2mg/ℓ, COD가 2.4mg/ℓ, 분변성 대장균이 1.7x10³MPN/100ml로 상수원 수 2급 내지 3급의 상태를 나타내 하류로 내려가면서 오염도가 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 청주시의 영향을 크게 받는 미호천 하류의 평균수질은 pH가 7.2, DO가 6.3mg/ℓ, BOD가 16.2mg/ℓ, COD가 15.1mg/ℓ, 분변성 대장균이 1.6x10??MPN/100ml로 심각한 오염 상태를 보여 청주시와 대전시가 금강 본류의 주 수질 오염원으로 나타났다. 영양 염류 (NH₃-N, NO₂-N, NO₃-N, PO₄-P)와 무기성 유해 성분 (Cl-, CN-, F-)의 함량은 지천의 일부 지점을 제외하고는 극히 낮은 수준으로 검출되었으며, 유기인, 페놀류, PCB 성분은 조사기간 중 전혀 검출되지 않았다. 또한 Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, Cr, Pb, Cd, Hg등의 중금속은 검출되지 않거나 하천 수질 기준 또는 식용수 수질 기준의 허용치를 초과하지 않는 양호한 수준으로 나타났다.

      • 호밀 (Secale cereale L.)유식물의 질산환원효소의 활량과 단백질함량에 관한 Cycloheximide의 영향

        This work was accomplished with 6 day-old rye (Secale cereale L.) seedlings to determine the effect of the antibiotics by cycloheximide on in vivo nitrate reductase activity, protein and RNA content. The nitrate reductase activity by treating 0.1μM and 0.1 mM cycloheximide was lower than that of the control group. The optimum pH for the nitrate reductase of the control group was 7.6 in the range of pH 5.6-8.0, but, in the case of 0.1mM cycloheximide treatment group, the optimum pH was decreased to 6.8 within the weak the acid region. The protein content of shoot and root in the 0.1μM and 0.1 mM cycloheximide treatment groups were respectively found at the 96%, 82% level of that in the control group. In the higher cycloheximide treatment (0.1 mM CH), not only nitrate reductase activity and protein content but also RNA content was greatly decreased. In this fact, it was suggested that the 0.1 mM cycloheximide had affected on the RNA polymerase. On the basis of there results, it was concluded that the decreased nitrate reductase activity by treating cycloheximide occurred primarily according to the decreased nitrate uptake, and the decreased protein and RNA content depended upon the results of the direct and indirect effect of cycloheximide on the protein synthesis.

        Functional Electrical Stimulation to Ankle Dorsiflexor and Plantarflexor Using Single Foot Switch in Patients With Hemiplegia From Hemorrhagic Stroke

        <P><B>Objective</B></P><P>To evaluate the effects of functional electrical stimulation (FES) to ankle dorsiflexor (DF) and ankle plantarflexor (PF) on kinematic and kinetic parameters of hemiplegic gait.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Fourteen post-stroke hemiplegic patients were considered in this study. Electrical stimulation was delivered to ankle DF during the swing phase and ankle PF during the stance phase via single foot switch. Kinematic and kinetic data were collected using a computerized motion analysis system with force plate. Data of no stimulation (NS), DF stimulation only (DS), DF and PF stimulation (DPS) group were compared among each other.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Peak ankle dorsiflexion angle during swing phase is significantly greater in DS group (-1.55°±9.10°) and DPS group (-2.23°±9.64°), compared with NS group (-6.71°±11.73°) (p<0.05), although there was no statistically significant difference between DS and DPS groups. Ankle plantarflexion angle at toe-off did not show significant differences among NS, DS, and DPS groups. Peak knee flexion in DPS group (34.12°±13.77°) during swing phase was significantly greater than that of NS group (30.78°±13.64°), or DS group (32.83°±13.07°) (p<0.05).</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>In addition to the usual FES application stimulating ankle DF during the swing phase, stimulation of ankle PF during stance phase can help to increase peak knee flexion during the swing phase. This study shows the advantages of stimulating the ankle DF and PF using single foot switch for post-stroke gait.</P>

      • The correlation between noise of outdoor unit and thermodynamic properties of cycle at transient condition of room air-conditioner

        Recently, noise reduction of air-conditioner is one of the important design factors for high quality product. Especially, customer complaints arise due to noise problem of the outdoor unit. After the operation of airconditioner start, noise level of outdoor unit is increased gradually and sometimes abnormal noise occurs until it reaches steady state condition. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relation between noise of outdoor unit and thermodynamic properties of cycle at transient condition of room air-conditioner. In order to find out the noise characteristics of outdoor unit, noise and vibration measurements are carried out. Also, the thermodynamic properties of compressor and heat exchanger are measured by using temperature and pressure sensors and experimental results are discussed. Finally, we find out the relation between noise and cycle properties at starting of room air-conditioner and the improvement method to reduce noise level is proposed.

        Dihydroceramide is a key metabolite that regulates autophagy and promotes fibrosis in hepatic steatosis model

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an increasingly common chronic liver disease worldwide. Sphingolipids are a family of lipids that play essential roles as critical regulators in metabolic disorders. Some sphingolipids are known key factors in metabolic dysfunction. However, the precise effect of dihydroceramide on NAFLD remains unknown. Here, we report how dihydroceramide in autophagosome accumulation activates fibrogenesis in human liver Chang cells treated with free fatty acids (FFA). According to LC/MS lipid profiling, FFA increased the levels of sphingolipids and triacylglycerol (TG). To demonstrate the potential role of dihydroceramide metabolism in autophagy, several sphingolipid synthesis inhibitors were used. Increased dihydroceramide led to impairment of autophagic flux, resulting in increased TG storage in lipid droplets (LD) and upregulated expression of fibrosis markers. Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs, LX-2 cells) were co-cultured with Chang cells to assess the potential fibrogenic response to dihydroceramide, Treatment with rapamycin recovered autophagic flux in Chang cells and fibrogenesis in the co-culture system. Our results identified a critical function of dihydroceramide metabolism in autophagy. It could play an important role in the progression of NAFLD associated with lipid over-accumulation. Therefore, preventing autophagic flux by regulating dihydroceramide could be a potential strategic approach for providing therapy for NAFLD.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> FFA uptake increases sphingolipids in liver cells. </LI> <LI> Dihydroceramide product correlates with autophagosome accumulation. </LI> <LI> Dihydroceramide impairs autophagic flux and increases lipid droplets. </LI> <LI> Rapamycin recuperates fibrosis by recovering autophagic flux by increased dihydroceramide. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • 단일 및 다중모드 스펙트럼 해석법에 의한 교량의 내진설계 연구

        이 연구에서는 현행 우리나라 도로교 시방서의 내진규정에 부합하는 단일모드 스펙트럼 해석법과 다중모드 스펙트럼 해석법을 연속교에 각각 적용하여 해석하고 그 결과를 비교하였으며, 적절한 적용방법을 제시하였다. 이를 위하여 교량을 공간뼈대 구조물로 모델링 하였고, 교량의 지간과 기둥의 높이를 변화적 규모를 조절함으로써 얻은 다양한 고유주기에 대해서 두 가지 해석방법을 각각 적용하여 해석한 결과를 분석, 비교하였다. 고유주기가 4초 이내의 교량에 있어서 단일모드 스펙트럼해석 결과가 다중모드 스펙트럼해석 결과보다 비교적 타당한 안전측의 결과를 보였으며 고유주기가 4초 이상이 되면 단일모드 스펙트럼해석에 큰 오차의 발생이 예상된다. 또한 교량의 기둥 높이에 대한 지간의 비가 클수록 교축 직각방향보다 진동이 지배적인 것을 알 수 있었다. As an importance of seismic design has been increasing, it is necessary to establish an adequate guidelines of which designers can make use for the effective design according to the types of bridges. When applying the codes, seismic design forces are determined by single mode spectral analysis method for the general bridges whose geometric shape is relatively simple, where seismic design forces are obtained only using the fundamental frequency. On the contrary, when the geometeric irregularities such as span length and pier hight are significant, one may expect substantial errors which may be taken into account in multi-mode spectral analysis. In order to determine and compare the design forces by single and multi-mode spectral analysis respectively, the program based on design codes which performs a 3-dimensional dynamic analysis is developed and applied to several example bridges. It can be noted from the results that for the bridges whose natural periods are below 4 seconds, seismic forces by the single mode spectral analysis method are a little higher than that by the multi--mode spectral analysis method, while for the bridges whose natural periods are above 4 seconds it is recommanded to apply multi-mode spectral analysis method.

        Integrated diagnostic approach of pediatric neuromuscular disorders

        Clinical and genetic heterogeneity in association with overlapping spectrum is characteristic in pediatric neuromuscular disorders, which makes confirmative diagnosis difficult and time consuming. Considering evolution of molecular genetic diagnosis and resultant upcoming genetically modifiable therapeutic options, rapid and cost-effective genetic testing should be applied in conjunction with existing diagnostic methods of clinical examinations, laboratory tests, electrophysiologic studies and pathologic studies. Earlier correct diagnosis would enable better clinical management for these patients in addition to new genetic drug options and genetic counseling.

        Myocardial atrophy in children with mitochondrial disease and Duchenne muscular dystrophy

        Purpose: Mitochondrial disease (MD) and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) are often associated with cardiomyopathy, but the myocardial variability has not been isolated to a specific characteristic. We evaluated the left ventricular (LV) mass by echocardiography to identify the general distribution and functional changes of the myocardium in patients with MD or DMD. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the echocardiographic data of 90 children with MD and 42 with DMD. Using two-dimensional echocardiography, including time-motion (M) mode and Doppler measurements, we estimated the LV mass, ratio of early to late mitral filling velocities (E/A), ratio of early mitral filling velocity to early diastolic mitral annular velocity (E/Ea), stroke volume, and cardiac output. A "z score" was generated using the lambda-mu-sigma method to standardize the LV mass with respect to body size. Results: The LV mass-for-height z scores were significantly below normal in children with MD ($-1.02{\pm}1.52$, P<0.001) or DMD ($-0.82{\pm}1.61$, P =0.002), as were the LV mass-for-lean body-mass z scores. The body mass index (BMI)-for-age z scores were far below normal and were directly proportional to the LV mass-for-height z scores in both patients with MD (R =0.377, P<0.001) and those with DMD (R =0.330, P=0.033). The LV mass-for-height z score correlated positively with the stroke volume index (R =0.462, P<0.001) and cardiac index (R =0.358, P<0.001). Conclusion: LV myocardial atrophy is present in patients with MD and those with DMD and may be closely associated with low BMI. The insufficient LV mass for body size might indicate deterioration of systolic function in these patients.

        Acute eosinophilic pneumonia(AEP) was first described in 1989 and represents a clinical entity distinct from chronic eosinophilic pneumonia. AEP is characterized by acute respiratory insufficiency, hypoxemia, fever, diffuse radiographic infiltrates, and eosinophilia in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid or lung biopsies in the absence of infection, atopy, or asthma. Rapid response to corticosteroids is characteristic. We experienced a 47-year-old metal driller presenting typical clinical and radiological characteristics of AEP. We confirmed eosinophilic pneumonia with brochoalveolar lavage analysis and transbronchial lung biopsy. We report a case of AEP diagnosed by clinical, radiographic, and histologic findings with a brief review of the literature.
