A new cultivar ‘Daewang’ strawberry was developed by the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science for forcing culture in 2010. The cultivar ‘Daewang’ was originated from the cross between ‘Maehyang’, a high firmness cultivar and ‘Wongyo 3111’, a high sugar content in 2006. The cultivar shows erect plant type, vigorous growth habit, early flower bud differentiation with 12-15 flowers per cluster from planting on healthy nursery. Fruits of ‘Daewang’ are conical type having a bright red skin color, and 16-17 g in an average weight. ‘Daewang’ is suitable for forcing culture as time required for dormancy breaking ranged between 50 and 100 hours. This cultivar has excellent taste for high sugar/acid ratio as sugar content of 11.1 °Brix, acidity of 0.39% with abundant texture and can be harvested by late spring because the fruit firmness of ‘Daewang’ was 18.2 g?mm<SUP>-2</SUP> that was about 7.9 g?mm<SUP>-2</SUP> higher than 10.3 g?mm<SUP>-2</SUP> of ‘Akihime’ cultivar. But although total yield is not significantly different from ‘Akihime’ cultivar, its marketable yield is remarkably higher than that of ‘Akihime’ cultivar. Disease and pest resistance of ‘Daewang’ have a tendency to sensitive powdery mildew, anthracnose and spotted spider.
Hepatitis B Prophylaxis after Liver Transplantation in Korea: Analysis of the KOTRY Database

Background: Prophylaxis for hepatitis B virus (HBV) recurrence is essential after liver transplantation (LT) in HBV-associated recipients. We conducted real-world analysis of HBV prophylaxis after LT in the Korean population. Methods: Korean Organ Transplantation Registry (KOTRY) database and additionally collected data (n = 326) were analyzed with special reference to types of HBV prophylaxis. Results: The study cohort comprised 267 cases of living-donor LT and 59 cases of deceased-donor LT. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was diagnosed in 232 (71.2%) of these subjects. Antiviral agents were used in 255 patients (78.2%) prior to LT. HBV DNA was undetectable in 69 cases (21.2%) and detectable over wide concentrations in the other 257 patients (78.8%) prior to LT. Polymerase chain reaction analysis of the store blood samples detected HBV DNA in all patients, with 159 patients (48.9%) showing concentrations > 100 IU/mL. Post-transplant HBV regimens during the first year included combination therapy in 196 (60.1%), hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) monotherapy in 121 (37.1%), and antiviral monotherapy in 9 (2.8%). In the second post-transplant year, these regimens had changed to combination therapy in 187 (57.4%), HBIG monotherapy in 112 (34.4%), and antiviral monotherapy in 27 (8.3%). Trough antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen titers > 500 IU/mL and >1,000 IU/mL were observed in 61.7% and 25.2%, respectively. The mean simulative half-life of HBIG was 21.6 ± 4.3 days with a median 17.7 days. Up to 2-year follow-up period, HCC recurrence and HBV recurrence developed in 18 (5.5%) and 6 (1.8%), respectively. HCC recurrence developed in 3 of 6 patients with HBV recurrence. Conclusion: Combination therapy is the mainstay of HBV prophylaxis protocols in a majority of Korean LT centers, but HBIG was often administered excessively. Individualized optimization of HBIG treatments using SHL is necessary to adjust the HBIG infusion interval.

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) composite films were prepared by casting a DMSO solution of PVA and MWNTs, whereby the MWNTs were dispersed by sonication. A significant improvement in the mechanical properties of the PVA drawn films was achieved by the addition of a small amount of MWNTs. The initial modulus and the tensile strength of the PVA drawn film increased by 30 % and 45 %, respectively, with the addition of 1 wt% MWNTs, which are close to those calculated from the rule of mixtures, and were strongly dependent upon the orientation of the PVA matrix. The mechanical properties, however, were not improved with a further increase in the MWNT content. The orientation of MWNTs in the composite was not well developed compared to that of the PVA matrix. This result suggests that the improvement of the molecular orientation of the PVA matrix plays a major role in the increase of the mechanical propeties of the drawn PVA/MWNT composite films.

급변하는 컴퓨터 네트워킹 환경에서 이동화에 따른 무선통신의 비중이 날로 더해지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 무선 인터넷 프로토콜 표준인 IEEE 802.11의 문제점들을 분석하고, Multi-Hop Ad Hoc Network에서 성능 향상을 위하여 Single-channel Jamming 신호를 기반으로 한 SJMAC(Single-channel Jamming MAC) 프로토콜을 설계하고, NS2 모듈을 구현한 후에 성능 평가를 하였다. 기존 IEEE 802.11과의 성능 비교를 위하여 NS2 (Network Simulator2)[1]에 SJMAC 모듈을 추가하여 제안된 프로토콜의 성능을 검증한다.

The origin of Paget cells in extramammary Pagets disease is uncertain, however, some ultrastructural surveys revealed differentistion of Paget cells toward sweat gland apparatus. This is supported by recent immunohistochemical studies that Paget cells are irnmunohistochemically shown to react with antikeratin monoclonal antibodies specific to simple epithelia. In this siudy, seven cases of extramammary Pagets disease were immunohistochemically investigated with adenokeratin, carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA), involucrin by peroxidase-antiperoxidase(PAP) techniques. The results were as follow : l. Epidermis, hair follicies and sebaceous glands revealed negative immunoreacativity for adenokeratin in all cases. Sweat glands(6/7), Paget cells(6/7) and underlying adenocarcinoma revealed positive immunoreactivity for adenokeratin. 2. Epidermis, hair follicles and sebaceous glands(6/7) revealed negative immunoreactivity for CEA. Sweat glands, Paget cells and underlying adenocarcinoma revealed positive immunoreactivity for CEA in all cases. 3. Lower epidermis, sweat glands(6/7), Paget cells and underlying adenocarcinorna revealed negative irnmunoreactivity for involucrin. Upper epidermis, hair follicles and sebaceous glands(5/7) revealed positive immunoreactivity far involucrin. Based on these results, Paget cells of extramammary Pagets disease are considered to be derived from the sweat glands. (Kor J Dermatol 28(2): 202 211, 1990)

Three serotypes (O+A+Asia1 type) of the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine were injected into cloven-hoofed animals in Korea after the nationwide spread of FMD at the end of 2010. This study was conducted to investigate FMD antibody development after FMD vaccination, and to determine whether there was a significant correlation between the antibody titer of the sow and the antibody titer of the growing pigs. The antibody titer (percentage inhibition [PI] titer) of the sow (gilt) after FMD vaccination was maintained at a level higher than 50 (P<0.05) for 5 months. A higher PI titer for the 1-month-old growing pigs corresponded with greater inhibition of the PI titer of the vaccinated growing pigs (P<0.05). A negative correlation (P<0.05) between the PI titer of the 1-month-old growing pigs and the PI titer of 3-month-old growing pigs, 4-month-old growing pigs after FMD vaccination at 2 months, 3months was identified, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.274. Thus the PI titer of the growing pigs was inhibited to a greater degree when vaccination was performed at 2 months of age than at 3 months. However, many other factors likely influence growing pigs` PI titer in addition to the PI titer of the sow and age at vaccination, given that the coefficient of determination was somewhat lower.

Nesidioblastosis, the process of differentiation of pancreatic islets from ductular epithelium, is a frequent cause of hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia in neonates and infants, but rare in adults. A 38-year-old man had suffered from intermittent hypoglycemic symtoms for 10 years. He had inappropriately elevated plasma immunoreactive insulin level and I/G ratio during a prolonged fast. There was no evidence of tumor on the abdominal CT scan and operation although celiac angiography showed a round mass like lesion in the distal pancreatic area. His hypoglycemic symptoms were improved by distal pancreatectomy. Pathologic finding in the resected pancreas was that of focal type nesidioblastosis I.e, increased size and number of islets with scattered numerous small islets around ductules in focal lesion. Distal pancreatectomy as an initial operation may be effective in the treatment of focal type nesidioblastosis(J Kor Soc Endocrinol 10: 136-141, 1995).
