1) The number of the out-and in-patients had increased year after year (Table Ⅰ & Ⅲ). 2) Schizophrenia was the greatest number of the in-patients and its rate to whole was 49.1 percent, and neurosis was the greatest number of the out-patients and its rate to whole was 41.66 per cent (Table Ⅰ & Ⅶ). 3) In in-patients, hysteria revealed relatively large in percentage as 11.8% than the other groups (Table Ⅰ). 4) The rate of the male hysteria patients to all male patients was 3.5 per cent and the rate of female hysteria was 20.5 per cent (Table Ⅱ). 5) In in-patients, all the patients of general paresis and alcoholism were only males in sex(Table Ⅱ). 6) In in-patients of schizophrenia, the ratio of the male patients to the female patients was 57.0 : 43.0, but the each rate of each total numbers of the all diseases of the both sexes was almost same (Table Ⅲ). 7) The largest age group of the all patients was between 21∼30 years old, and the next was between 31∼40 years in in-patients (Table Ⅲ). 8) The largest age group of schizophrenia patients was between 21∼30 years and that of M.D.R patients was between 31∼40 years in in-patients (Table Ⅲ). 9) In in-patients of hysteria, the largest age group was between 31∼40 years, and the next was between 21∼30 years (Table Ⅲ). 10) The results of treatment in in-patients were as followings; Recovered; 27.6% Much improved; 43.1% Slightly improved and no changed; 28.2% (Table Ⅳ) 11) The results of treatment in schizophrenia of the in-patients were as followings; Recovered; 19.1% Much improved; 48.3% Slightly improved and no changed; 32.1% (Table Ⅴ) 12) The mode of treatment had been somewhat changed during last 8 years from 1960 to 1967 in treatment of the in-patients (Table Ⅵ). (1) The combined therapy of tranquilizers and EST had been increased, but the therapy of tranquilizer alone or EST alone had been decreased, compared to 1960. (2) The therapy of ICT in the treatment of in-patients had been much decreased.

The metabolic mechanism of C-14 labeled chitosan in mice

Chitin is exists in the exoskeleton of crustaceans and chitosan can be obtained by deacetylation of chitin. As chitosan has a chelating characteristics, it was used radiostrontium chelator in the rats and mice. It also can be used as a healthy food and medicine. The purpose of the prsent study is to investigate the chitosan distribution and excretory route of 14C-chitosan in the animal body. 14C-chitosan was prepared and intravenously administered to the vein of mice and also intraorally ingested. The body distribution of chitosan was studied by autoradiography and the urinary excretion was counted. C-14 label chitosan was showed high distribution in the liver. And 10~20% of chitosan was excreted to the urine through kidney within few days. Chitosan was gathered into gromerulus in kidney and excreted from three hours. It was concluded that chitosan has no target organs and liver distribution is a sort of only passing route for the urinary excretion by way of kidney.
The Improvement of Nutritional Support with Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy

Background/Aims: Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is the most common method of enteral nutrition for patients who require long term artificial nutrition. PEG has been used as a method of nutritional support; however, improvement of nutritional support via PEG has not yet been reported. In this study, we analyzed the efficacy of nutritional support via PEG. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 196 consecutive patients who underwent PEG at Kyung Hee University Hospital in Gang Dong from 2006 to 2012. We analyzed clinical characteristics, the method of nutritional support, and the proportion of intake to establish recommendations for nutritional requirements and the duration needed to reach the level of appropriate nutrition. Results: A total of 196 patients included 130 men and 66 women, and their mean age (standard deviation) was 69.1±14.0 years. Compared with caloric and protein supplementation before PEG, 113 kcal (13.8% of baseline) and 4.8 g of protein (17.5% of baseline) could be additionally supplied with PEG (P=0.001, respectively). The number of patients who could take more than 90% of the recommended requirements of caloric and protein supplementation after PEG showed increased caloric and protein intake by 25.4% and 20.2%, respectively, in comparison with those before PEG (P=0.001 and P=0.001, respectively). The mean duration of catch-up for more than 90% of the recommended caloric and protein intake was approximately 11 days. Procedure related complications and early mortality were reported in 8.1% and 0% of patients, respectively. Conclusions: PEG is an effective and safe nutritional support method for patients who require long term artificial nutrition. (Intest Res 2013;11:120-126)
Development of a loop-mediated isothermal amplification assay for living modified canola GT73

Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) has been developed to amplify target genes of Living Modified (LM) crops using a simple, rapid, cost-effective, and highly specific process under isothermal conditions. PCR-based detection methods were intensively developed to identify LM crops. However, these methods require expensive laboratory equipment and skilled researchers. This study designed six specific primers for isothermal amplification of LM canola GT73 by Bst DNA polymerase. The reaction condition was simple isothermal amplification in 63°C amplification for 30 min and 80°C inactivation for 2 min. The detection limit of newly developed LAMP assays was approximately 0.8 ng of genomic DNA. To confirm the specificity of the LAMP method, we tested 10 certified reference materials of LM canola, two wild relative species samples (Brassica juncea), and a GT73 canola volunteer. As a result, the LAMP method could specifically detect only the GT73 reference material and GT73 volunteer. We performed LAMP assays using twenty LM canola volunteer samples collected in 2017 in South Korea to verify LAMP specificity. The newly developed LAMP method for GT73 is applicable for LM canola DNA detection.

<P>To achieve a high reversibility and long cycle life for lithium–oxygen (Li–O<SUB>2</SUB>) batteries, the irreversible formation of Li<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>, inevitable side reactions, and poor charge transport at the cathode interfaces should be overcome. Here, we report a rational design of air cathode using a cobalt nitride (Co<SUB>4</SUB>N) functionalized carbon nanofiber (CNF) membrane as current collector-catalyst integrated air cathode. Brush-like Co<SUB>4</SUB>N nanorods are uniformly anchored on conductive electrospun CNF papers via hydrothermal growth of Co(OH)F nanorods followed by nitridation step. Co<SUB>4</SUB>N-decorated CNF (Co<SUB>4</SUB>N/CNF) cathode exhibited excellent electrochemical performance with outstanding stability for over 177 cycles in Li–O<SUB>2</SUB> cells. During cycling, metallic Co<SUB>4</SUB>N nanorods provide sufficient accessible reaction sites as well as facile electron transport pathway throughout the continuously networked CNF. Furthermore, thin oxide layer (<10 nm) formed on the surface of Co<SUB>4</SUB>N nanorods promote reversible formation/decomposition of film-type Li<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>, leading to significant reduction in overpotential gap (∼1.23 V at 700 mAh g<SUP>–1</SUP>). Moreover, pouch-type Li-air cells using Co<SUB>4</SUB>N/CNF cathode stably operated in real air atmosphere even under 180° bending. The expression frequency of BrdU-induced fragile sites was examined in stomach cancer patients to determine whether this parameter could be used as a marker of genetic susceptibility in at-risk individuals. G banding performed to detect fragile sites. No difference was found in expression frequency between the stomach cancer patients and a group of normal individuals(p=0.7). This indicates that the expression frequency of BrdU-induced fragile sites is not a suitable marker for assessing genetic susceptibility in stomach cancer patient.
