        It is commonly agreed that George Bernard Shaw made great contributions to the intellectual world both as an artist and a philosopher. As dramatist and social reformer, Shaw used stage to express his ideas about politics, society, economy, religion, etc. All his plays have their foundation upon his profound philosophy, and this fact shows that he is not only a dramatist but also a profound philosopher and thinker. George Bernard Shaw worked his own philosophical system out of the philosophies of Friedlich Nietzsche and Arthur Schop Schopenhauer. At the same time, he created the theory of LIFE FORCE which he explained in many of his plays. According to this theory, the development of human society depends on the “force of will”, in other words, the movement of LIFE FORCE brings about the realization of a haelthy human society. The play that expresses this idea most eloquently is Man and superman . In this thesis I have done a close study of this play and made a detailed analysis of this celebrated theory. At the same time, I have carefully studied his views about education for they are closely connected with his idea of LIEF-FORCE. He contends that in order for man to realize his own will and develop it to the level of a superman he must embody the idea of LIFT-FORCE, and this process he must inevitably get involved with education. His views on education are they were in his own time.

      • Shakespeare가 본 이상적인 군주상(君主像)

        In this thesis I have studied Shakespeare's ideal kingship represented in henry Ⅳ, Part Ⅰ&Ⅱ and Henry Ⅴ. The central image in these plays is a composite figure which Shakespeare builds up gradually through the series of the history plays from henry Ⅳ to henry Ⅴ is an appointed symbol of an ideal king, and the action of the play is directed to show him doing everything that the age expected of the perfect king. With his unflawed, hereditary title he possesses almost all the kingly attributes. with his glorious practical virtues, courage, integrity, modesty, leadership, sense of responsibility, and a through knowledge of human nature, Henry Ⅴ is indeed the ideal of the king who surely attains a great success. But we sense something lacking in this practical hero in his successful political action. The lack of humanity in Henry Ⅴ is revealed in the relation with Falstaff, and the bloody-minded action at the war. Henry proves that political success is dependent on the repudiation of all human values, and what is good in the world of politics, is entirely unrelated to and generally the opposite of what makes for goodness in the moral life. The purpose of this study was to investigate the nature of Shakespeare's ideal kingship. The conclusion is that Shakespeare, suggesting the limitations of successful politic king, reflects his uneasiness with the values of a purely political world.

        MacLeth is one of the most violent of Shakespearean tragedies for its intense vision of evil and the hero's direct involvement in the acts of horror. Such violence and intensity resultant from the aspects is implied thematically in the witches' word, "Fair is foul, and foul is fair." As critics have pointed out, notably G. Wilson Knight among them, Macbeth commits the violent actions of evil not from his villainy, but from his fear of what is insinuated to him or of his fate, for he does not grapple with evil, nor with his conscience. With his radical challenge against fate, the intense struggle for life, coupled with the violent sense of fear, the hero plunges continuously into the acts of horror, which, with the poetic excellence of the playwright, consequently heighten the dramatic tension. Starting from the witches' saying which difines, as it were, the general dramatic setting, and culminating in the last great soliloquy of the hero in the final act, which epitomizes an extreme pessimistic view of life in terns of nothingness, the remarkable manipulation of dramatic logic through convincing development of the plot and the masterful execution of tragic theme. In the progress of tragedy as such various aspects of dramatic technique and style enrich and intensify the texture, and among them indispensable is irony as almost an organic element of tragedy, which in turn heightens tragic errntions. This essay deals with modes of irony in Macbeth and tries to analyse them to darify the work, where necessary, in view of the organic relation between tragic ermtions and irony presented throughout the play.

        Pastry 마가린 함량과 적층 수에 따른 puff pastry 제조 특성

        Puff pastry의 제조 공정에서 pastry 마가린 함량과 적층 수의 변화가 제품의 수분 함량, 굽기 손실, 부피, vapor action 등에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. Pastry 마가린 함량이 90%로 동일하고 적층 수가 27결일 경우 10.8±0.6%의 수분 함량을 나타냈으며, 1024결일 경우 16.7±0.3%로 적층 수가 증가할수록 제품의 수분함량은 증가 하는 경향을 보였다. 적층 수를 256결로 동일하게 하고, pastry 마가린 함량이 50%일 경우는 17.3±0.5%로 나타났으며, 130%에서는 7.5±0.2%로 pastry 마가린 함량이 증가할수록 제품의 수분 함량은 감소하였다. Pastry 마가린 함량을 70%로 동일하게 했을 때 굽기 손실의 변화는 27결일 경우 25.0±0.7%로 나타났으며, 1024결일경우엔 18.8±0.6^로 나타나 적층 수가 증가할수록 제품의 굽기 손실은 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 적층 수를 27결로 동일하게 한 경우에서는 pastry 마가린 함량이 90%일 때 25.4±0.4%의 굽기 손실이 발생하였으며, 110%에서 26.9±0.4%로 굽기 손실이 가장 높게 나타났다. Pastry 마가린 함량이 130%이고 적층수가 81결일 때에 21.87±0.79㎖/g로 최대의 부피를 나타내었다. 또한 vapor action의 크기는 9.15㎜가 pastry 마가린 함량 110%, 적층 수 256결에서 8.25±0.50개로 가장 많이 나타났다. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of pastry margarine content and number of layers on moisture content, baking loss. specific loaf volume and the vapor action in the manufacturing process of puff pastry. As the number of layers of the puff pastry increased the moisture content of the products slightly increased. And the moisture contents of the products decreased, as the pastry margarine contents of the puff pastry increased in the same number of layers. The baking loss of the products tended to decrease as the number of layers increased. On the other hand, as the pastry margarine contents of the puff pastry increased, the baking loss of the product increased. When the pastry margarine content in puff pastries became 130%, 81 layers provided the maximum specific loaf volumes 21.62±0.79 ㎖/g of puff pastries. When 110% of margarine and 256 layers were applied for preparation of puff pastry, the number of vapor action was 8.25±0.50 with the vapor action size of 9-15 ㎜.

      • Kinetics and Mechanism for the Reaction of Substituted Phenethyl Tosylates with Pyridine

        치환 phenethyl tosylate와 피리딘의 2차 반응속도 상수를 아세토니트릴 용매에서 측정했다. 반응속도 상수는 치환기가 전자주는 기일때 증가했으며 반대로 전자끄는 기일때는 감소 하였다. Hammett 그림도시에서는 치환할로겐화벤질과 친핵체와의 반응과 같이 phenethyl tosylate의 치환기 변화에 따라 곡선이 되었다. 그러나 이 반응의 ρ값은 브롬화 치환 벤질보다 작은 값이었다. 이 반응은 2분자 S_N2반응이라고 설명할 수 있으며 phenethyl tosylate에서 치환기가 전자를 주는 기일 때는 C....O 결합의 절단이 유리하고 반대로 치환기가 전자를 끄는 기일 때는 C...N 결합의 형성이 유리하다. 이러한 경향은 치환기가 전자를 끄는 기에서 전자주는 기로 변함에 따라 반응메카니즘이 S_N2에서 S_N1으로 바뀌고 있음을 시사한다.

        Characterization of aluminized RDX for chemical propulsion

        The chemical response of energetic materials is analyzed in terms of 1) the thermal decomposition under the thermal stimulus and 2) the reactive flow upon the mechanical impact, both of which give rise to an exothermic thermal runaway or an explosion. The present study aims at building a set of chemical kinetics that can precisely model both thermal and impact initiation of a heavily aluminized cyclotrimethylene-trinitramine (RDX) which contains 35% of aluminum. For a thermal decomposition model, the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement is used together with the Friedman isoconversional method for defining the frequency factor and activation energy in the form of Arrhenius rate law that are extracted from the evolution of product mass fraction. As for modelling the impact response, a series of unconfined rate stick data are used to construct the size effect curve which represents the relationship between detonation velocity and inverse radius of the sample. For validation of the modeled results, a cook-off test and a pressure chamber test are used to compare the predicted chemical response of the aluminized RDX that is either thermally or mechanically loaded.

        Sustainability education in textile and apparel programs in higher education - A web-based content analysis -

        This study explores sustainability education in textile and apparel (T&A) programs in U.S. higher education institutions. Specifically, the researchers study whether more courses with sustainability focus are offered in higher-ranked institutions and explore whether sustainability is taught more in specific T&A related subject fields. Content analysis was conducted for 3,200 courses found in online course catalogs or the course information sites of 69 institutions. Institutions were selected from the 2015 rankings of the top 50 fashion design and top 50 fashion merchandising schools in the US on www.fashion-schools.org. All cases were coded by two coders with a Cohen's Kappa score of 97.5%, indicating good interrater reliability. Coded data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and t-tests. The findings show that sustainability is being integrated into the curricula and across courses of T&A programs in the U.S. Over half of the institution surveyed offered at least one sustainability embedded course. Higher ranked institutions provided more sustainability-related courses than power-ranked institutions. A natural match between the subject field and specific sustainability theme was observed (e.g., cultural diversity in history/culture and social psychology/education; recycle/reuse in textile science; sustainability in fashion design; social responsibility and ethics in industry/consumer). The need to introduce sustainability in courses holistically is discussed, whereby sustainability within the industry supply chain is examined in a connected way.
