26 cases(9 males and 17 females) with catatonia features on admission were analyzed in terms of its clinical characteristics. The results obtained were as follows : 1) In the diagnostic distribution, more than a half of the cases were schizophrenic disorders(57.5%) and the others were major depressions(26.9%) and schizophreniform disorders(15.4%). 2) The catatonia signs were nonspecific and evenly distributed among a variety of clinical diagnostic entities. But the signs of negativism, mutism, and posturing appeared frequently in all cases. 3) Acute onset was prevalent(65.4%), ECT was more frequently applied(61.5%) and treatment response was better(70.9%) in the catatonia group than non-catatonia. Although the definition of catatonia is not clear yet, above results support the opinions of previous studies that catatonia should be understood as a heterogenous symptom complex. And not only schizophrenia but also affective disorder are associated with catatonia features. This suggests that we have to re-evaluate the concept of Kahlbaum's old description.
Fabrication and Characterization of Slag Fiber by Melt Extraction

<P>The influence of wheel speed and melt temperature on the surface characteristics of slag fibers were examined in mineral fibers synthesized from the steel-making slag, using a modified melt extraction method, i.e. melt spinning. The synthesized fibers were characterized by optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the wheel speed of 700 rpm generated better quality of mineral fibers in terms of diameter and length. This was attributed to the relative extent of contact width between the flowing melt and the rotating wheel. The thickness of the slag fibers were also decreased with increasing the slag melt temperature due mainly to significant decrease in the viscosity of the slag melt. In addition, the lower melt temperature caused an increase in number of shots plus the mineral fibers.</P>
Hydrogen production by steam reforming of ethanol over Ni/Al 2 O 3 -La 2 O 3 xerogel catalysts

<P>A series of nickel catalysts supported on binary Al2O3-La2O3 xerogel supports with different La/Al molar ratio were prepared via a sol-gel method and a subsequent wetness impregnation method for use in the ethanol steam reforming reaction. The effect of La/Al molar ratio on the characteristics and catalytic activities of Ni/Al2O3-La2O3 catalysts in the hydrogen production by steam reforming of ethanol was investigated. The prepared Ni/Al2O3-La2O3 catalysts were characterized by nitrogen adsorption desorption, ICP-AES (inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy), XRD (X-ray diffraction), Al-27 MAS NMR (magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance), TPR (temperature-programmed reduction), TPO (temperature-programmed oxidation), TEM (transmission electron microscopy), and TPD (temperature-programmed desorption) analyses. Physicochemical properties of the catalysts were suppressed with increasing La/Al molar ratio because of the formation of defective structure within the alumina lattice. Acidity of Ni/Al2O3-La2O3 'catalysts was weakened with increasing La/Al molar ratio, while basicity of the catalysts was strengthened. Nickel dispersion and nickel surface area increased with increasing La/Al molar ratio. On the contrary, ethanol adsorption capacity of the catalysts decreased with increasing La/Al molar ratio due to their unfavorable physicochemical properties. Hydrogen yield showed a volcano-shaped curve with respect to La/Al molar ratio, where an optimal amount of La content was required to achieve the most promising catalytic performance. The enhanced catalytic activity at an intermediate La/Al molar ratio is believed to be due to the offset of two opposite trends between nickel surface area and ethanol adsorption capacity of Ni/Al2O3-La2O3 catalysts. Injury and occurrence patterns of cherry tree borer in cherry trees planted in roadsides

The cherry tree borer, Synanthedon bicingulata (Staudinger, 1887), is considered as a tree boring pest boring into cambium layer and weakens the tree. Cherry trees, the host species of S. bicingulata, are the most abundant ornamental trees in South Korea. However, there has been insufficient study conducted on ornamental trees compared to orchards. The study aimed to investigate the injury patterns caused by their larvae based on height and direction they faced. Since life cycle of S. bicingulata in Gangwon province had not been surveyed, occurrence pattern was also investigated using sex attractant. Injury patterns of 253 cherry trees in Chuncheon, were surveyed in April 2023. As a result, the injury occuring under 1 m in height was 2.61 times more extensive than injury between 1m and 2m in height of trunk. Also, the injury on the south-faced trunks was 2.68 times larger than on the north-faced trunks.

<P>Resistance switching behaviors in a Pt/In<SUB>2</SUB>Ga<SUB>2</SUB> ZnO<SUB>7</SUB> (IGZO)/TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Pt sample were examined for their potential use in diode-free memory integration. The In-Ga-Zn-O (IGZO) layer worked as the semiconductor layer, exhibiting accumulation or depletion of carriers depending on the polarity of the bias. Electroforming was possible only under the IGZO depletion condition due to the limited background leakage current flow. The repeated set/reset operation was also observed under the depletion condition. While the reset was possible, set was impeded by the high background current flow of the IGZO layer under the accumulation condition.</P>
