We studied the control of pretilt angles for homeotropic aligned nematic liquid crystal (NLC) on SiOx thin film surface by $45^{\circ}$ evaporation method with electron beam system. The uniform vertical LC alignment on. the SiOx thin film surfaces with electron beam evaporation was achieved. It is considered that the LC alignment on SiOx thin film by $45^{\circ}$ electron beam evaporation is attributed to elastic interaction between LC molecules and micro-grooves at the SiOx thin film surface created by evaporation. The pretilt angles of about $3.5^{\circ}$ in aligned NLC on SiOx thin film surfaces by electron beam evaporation of $45^{\circ}$ were measured. Consequently, the high pretilt angles of the NLC on the SiOx thin film by $45^{\circ}$ oblique electron beam evaporation method can be achieved.
Antioxidant and QR Inductive Activities of Novel Functional Soybean ‘Agakong3’

In order to evaluate the bioactivity of ‘Agakong3’, which was newly bred, quinone reductase (QR) inductive activity and antioxidant activity were both assessed. The methanol extract of ‘Agakong3’ showed a significantly stronger QR inductive activity than other soybeans. The methanol extract of ‘Agakong3’ also showed a significantly stronger cytotoxicity on hepa1c1c7 than other soybeans. ‘Agakong3’ exhibited the most potent antioxidant activity in the Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) assay whereas it showed significantly weak antioxidant in the DPPH assay. In total phenol and flavonoid contents, ‘Agakong3’ showed the highest contents regarding phenol and flavonoid compounds. Major isoflavones such as daidzein and genistein were quantitified by high performance liquid chromatography. ‘Agakong3’ also showed the highest total isoflavone contents. Results of correlation analysis showed that there were high correlation coefficients between the contents of isoflavone and TEAC and the contents of isoflavone and QR inductive activity, respectively. These results suggest that ‘Agakong3’ will be a promising and functional food material.
A Sensitivity Analysis of Parameters Affecting Indoor Air Quality Related to TVOC and HCHO Reduction

The objective of the study is to analyze the relative performance of factors affecting indoor air quality in multi-residential buildings in Korea. A study of the factors affecting indoor air quality is essential for establishing indoor air quality management strategies effectively. To observe the indoor air quality response following a modification of a given parameter, a sensitivity analysis was performed. The factors examined for the analysis include; wall/ceiling paper, adhesive for wall/ceiling paper, floor material, adhesive for floor material, and ventilation rate. The Experimental Design which identifies main effects among the design parameters with a few experiments was used to decrease the number of experiments. The simulation for indoor air quality was undertaken using a validated equation. Then, ANOVA(Analysis of Variance) was performed to evaluate the relative importance of each parameter affecting the indoor air quality. The result of the study indicates that the indoor air quality may be influenced most by adhesive for wall/ceiling paper, followed by ventilation rate and adhesive for floor material.
Expression of Toll-Like Receptors in Verruca and Molluscum Contagiosum

<P>Recent studies indicate that several Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are implicated in recognizing viral structures and instigating immune responses against viral infections. The aim of this study is to examine the expression of TLRs and proinflammatory cytokines in viral skin diseases such as verruca vulgaris (VV) and molluscum contagiosum (MC). Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and immunostaining of skin samples were performed to determine the expression of specific antiviral and proinflammatory cytokines as well as 5 TLRs (TLR2, 3, 4, 7, and 9). In normal human skin, TLR2, 4, and 7 mRNA was constitutively expressed, whereas little TLR3 and 9 mRNA was detected. Compared to normal skin (NS), TLR3 and 9 mRNA was clearly expressed in VV and MC specimens. Likewise, immunohistochemistry indicated that keratinocytes in NS constitutively expressed TLR2, 4, and 7; however, TLR3 was rarely detected and TLR9 was only weakly expressed, whereas 5 TLRs were all strongly expressed on the epidermal keratinocytes of VV and MC lesions. In addition, the mRNA expression of IFN-β and TNF-α was upregulated in the VV and MC samples. Immunohistochemistry indicated that IFN-β and TNF-α were predominately localized in the granular layer in the VV lesions and adjacent to the MC bodies. Our results indicated that VV and MC skin lesions expressed TLR3 and 9 in addition to IFN-β and TNF-α. These viral-induced proinflammatory cytokines may play a pivotal role in cutaneous innate immune responses.</P>

The particulate contamination of intravenously administered fluid has been of major concern. One of the most common complications associated with long term i.v. therapy is post-infusion phlebitis (PIP). We undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effect of inline filters on PIP. An electronic search of Medline, KoreaMed, and KRIST was conducted to identify randomized controlled trials evaluating the effect of inline filters. Meta-analysis was undertaken using STATA 10. A total of 62 literatures were retrieved, of which 7 were included in meta-analysis. Inline filtration for intravenous infusion significantly reduced by 39% of the incidence of phlebitis, with a relative risk of 0.61 (95% CI 0.41-0.90, p=0.012). Therefore, inline filtration is a highly effective means of decreasing the incidence of infusion phlebitis and should be considered as a part of intravenous therapy.
A Systematic Review of Acupuncture for Oculomotor Nerve Palsy

Acupuncture treatment for oculomotor nerve palsy has been increasing recently. This study analyzed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and case reports, using the Cochrane risk of bias tool to investigate the efficacy of acupuncture therapy for oculomotor nerve palsy. This analysis was performed on March 7, 2019, using online databases (PubMed, Cochrane, NDSL, OASIS, CNKI) where 208 articles were retrieved. Of these, there were 18 case reports and 18 RCTs that matched the inclusion criteria, of which 32 studies used acupuncture as the primary intervention, 1 used pharmacopuncture, 1 used fire-needling, and 1 used electroacupuncture. The most commonly used acupoints were BL1, BL2, ST2, TE23, Ex-HN5, LI4, GB14, ST36, GB20 and GB1. Significant findings were reported in all RCTs. Six adverse events were reported in 3 RCTs, with no effect on the outcome. No side effects were reported in the case reports. The risk-of-bias analysis showed that the articles did not report the experimental protocol used and it was not clear whether the study was blinded. Hence, it was difficult to assess the risk of bias. Analysis of 36 studies showed that acupuncture therapy for oculomotor nerve palsy was effective in many cases. It was difficult to evaluate the potential bias.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to confirm the dose-dependent skin moisturizing effects of dried pomegranate concentrate powder (PCP) and pomegranate concentrate solution (PCS) in ICR mice. Materials and methods: To observe the in vivo skin moisturizing effects and possible underlying mechanisms of PCP and PCS, oral PCP (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg) and PCS (1, 2, and 4 mL/kg) were administered to normal ICR mice. Changes in body weight, skin water content, and skin type I collagen and hyaluronan contents were measured. Additionally, the mRNA expression levels of hyaluronan synthase (Has) 1, 2, and 3, and collagen type I alpha (COL1A) 1 and 2 were determined in the dorsal skin of mice by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: Significant and dose-dependent increases in dorsal skin water content and type I collagen and hyaluronan contents were seen in PCP and PCS-treated mice. Moreover, the mRNA levels of Has 1, 2, and 3, involved in hyaluronan synthesis, and of COL1A1 and COL1A2, involved in collagen synthesis, were significantly and dose-dependently upregulated in PCS- and PCP-treated mice. Conclusions: In this study, PCP and PCS led to favorable skin moisturizing effects as indicated by increased skin water content and the upregulation of hyaluronan and collagen synthesis enzymes in mice treated with PCS (4 mL/kg) and PCP (200 mg/kg).
