The impedance. audiometry has recently been essential to clinical audiology. The vibratory energy introduced into the external ear canal has known to be modified by many factors such as the mechanical property of eardrum, the motility of ossicles, the resistance of inner ear system and the air volume of tympanomastoid cavity. This study- was designed to observe the role of air volume in determining the middle ear impedance. To find it out, the change in middle ear impedance was studied in 12 dogs whose both temporal bones were connected with various sized hard-walled cavities. The middle ear impedance and the pneumatization of temporal bone were also examined in 333 human adults (509 ears) who proved not to have any previous and present illness of middle ear conduction system. Then the correlation between the pneumatization and the middle ear impedance was investigated. The results were as follows; 1. In the dog's middle ear, tympanometric curve of type A was only found, and its configuration was not changed by the air volume. 2. In the dog's middle ear, the static compliance revealed a linear increase in proportion to the air volume; the increasing rate was 0.05±0.02cc/cc of air volume. 3. In the human middle ear, the static compliance showed a tendency to increase in proportion to the pneumatization of temporal bone. 4. In the human middle ear, there was a significant regression equation between the pneumatization of temporal bone (X variable) and the static compliance of middle ear(Y variable); Y=0.22X+0.14±0.07 in the normal cases, Y=0.18X+0.13±0.04 in the pure sensorineural hearing loss cases, and Y=0. 19X+0. 16±0.05 in the total cases. 5. The above results suggest that the static compliance of middle ear have another clinical value as a diagnostic means examining the pneumatization of temporal bone.

For the research of cytotoxic natural products, 50 medicinal plants were extracted with benzene and methanol, separately, and screened against L1210 cells. From the results(Table I), 6 samples showed cytotoxicity both in benzene and methanol extracts of 17 samples in benzene extracts and 3 samples in methanol extracts, respectively. Generally, the cytotoxicity exhibited high frequency (34%) in benzene extract but low frequency in methanol extract(6%), it meant that active cytotoxic components had less polarity. ED_50 values less than 10 ㎍/㎖ were observed in 17 medicinal plants.

우리 나라 동해안에 위치한 화진포에서 채집된 요각류, Paracyclopina nana의 생물학적 특성을 알아보기 위하여 각 유생 단계의 탈피율 및 탈피에 소요되는 시간을 알아보았다. 수온 20℃, 염도농도 17ppt의 조건에서 T. suecica를 먹이로서 충분량 급이 했을 때 P. nana의 어미로부터 갓 부화되어 나온 nauplius 유생은 성체가 되기까지 평균 17일이 소요됨을 알 수 있었다. 특히 제 1 nauplius 유생 단계에서 제 2 nauplius 유생으로 탈피하는 데에 평균 3.3일이 소요되어 가장 많은 시간을 요하는 것으로 나타났다. 점차 탈피하는데 소요되는 기간은 짧아져서 제 5 nauplius 유생 단계에서 제 6 nauplius 유생 단계로 탈피하는데에 가장 짧아서 약 1일이 소요되었고, 제 2 copepodid 유생 단계에서 제 3 copepodid 유생 단계로 탈피하는데 약 2.5일이 소요되었다. 한편, 제 1 nauplius 유생 단계에서 제 2 nauplius 유생 단계로의 탈피율은 66.7% 그리고, 제 6 nauplius 유생단계까지의 탈피율은 50%를 나타내었다. The moulting rate and inter-moult interval(days) of each larval developmental stages of Paracyclopina nana were studied. The copepod, P. nana was collected from lagoon Hwajinpo, South Korea. The experimental conditions were temperature 20℃, salinity l7ppt and fed on micro-algae, Tetraselmis suecica. The species was metamorphosed to the adult stage after possession of 6 nauplius stages and 5 copepodid stages. The moulting rate was 66.7% from 1st nauplius stage to 2nd one and was 50.0% to 6th one. P. nana were needed 17 days for developing from hatching to adult.

This study discusses the influence of fineness of cement on mechanical properties of cement mortar. According to the result, compressive strength increases in order of C>B>OPC>A and C>B>A>OPC at mixture proportion of 1:1 and 1:3 respectively. An increase of compressive strength by increase of fineness of cement is because internal structure of concrete grows dense by an increase of hydration reaction. As for curing condition, compressive strength is higher in standard curing than in air curing at mixture proportion of 1:1 and 1:3. There is not any tendency of strength development with age and fineness of cement by 91days. Length change by drying shrinkage increases in order of C>B>OPC>A at mixture proportion of 1:1 and 1:3 due to an increase of water content by variation of W/C.
수면단계 및 체위에 따른 수면무호흡의 빈도 및 정도에 관한 연구

Among the factors determining severity and frequency of obstructive sleep apnea sysdrome(OSAS), sleeping position and sleep stages seem to be crucial ones, supported by patients' & spouses' reports and clinical observations. This study was done to elaborate on the possible differences in the frequency and the severity of OSAS between supine and lateral positions as well as between REM and NREM sleep stages. Fourteen patients with clinical diagnosis of OSAS were studied polysomnographically for one full night using Oxford Medilog SAC 847 system. Standardized procedures were adopted for sleep recording with the body position sensor placed on the chest at the midline. Obtained computer-scored data were manually corrected regarding sleepstages, apnea types and the presence of arousals. IN the lateral position, compared with the supine position, respiratory disturbance index(RDI), O₂ desaturation and the percent arousals all decreased and the mean of lowest O₂ saturations increased significantly. During REM sleep, in comparison with NREM sleep, RD duration was more prolonged with O₂ desaturation more pronounced. The severity and the frequency of respiratory disturbances are more marked in the supine position and REM stage than in the lateral position and NREM stage respectively. Sleeping position training should be encouraged as an adjunctive therapeutic option, in addition to the adoption of other therapeutic maneuvers.

Bisphenol-A (BPA) as an organic synthetic compound of exhibiting estrogen-mimicking and hormone-like properties, which is commonly used to induce cellular stress or female reproductive toxicity. In addition, BPA induces the increasing of mitochondrial derived reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide, and production of these ROS affects to the meiotic maturation and cumulus cells expansion on in vitro maturation (IVM) of porcine cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs). However, anti-oxidative effect of melatonin for reduction of BPA-induced superoxide on porcine oocyte maturation has not been reported. Therefore, in present study, we confirmed that the reduction of BPA-derived superoxide by melatonin related to the reducing of mitochondria mediated apoptosis on meiotic maturation and cumulus cells expansion of porcine COCs. Then, to investigate the effects of superoxide specific scavenger, Mito-TEMPO, during porcine oocyte maturation progression, COCs cultured in maturation medium with Mito-TEMPO (0.1 μM) after pre-treatment of BPA (75 μM) for 22 h. Reduced meiotic maturation rate and cumulus cells expansion of COCs in the BPA (75 μM) treated group were recovered (p<0.01) by Mito-TEMPO treatment. Also, increasing of mitochondria derived apoptotic factors (AIF, Cleaved Caspase 3 and Cleaved PARP 1) protein levels by BPA treatment were reduced by Mito-TEMPO treatment in porcine COCs maturation. Positive effects of Mito-TEMPO for superoxide reduction on oocyte maturation and reducing mitochondrial apoptosis showed the same pattern in melatonin (0.1 μM) treated COCs. In case of supplemented with BPA and melatonin, superoxide production in COCs was not changed compared to control or melatonin treated groups. Based on these results, we concluded that melatonin as a regulator of superoxide such as Mito-TEMPO improves oocyte maturation through reduction of mitochondria derived apoptosis during IVM of porcine COCs.
