Novel Hybrid Algorithm Based on Combined Particle Swarm Optimization and Imperialist Competitive Algorithm for Non-Convex CHPED Solution

        Yang Yuwei,Gao Jie,Gu Hai,Imani Marani Hashem 대한전기학회 2023 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.18 No.1

This paper presents a novel hybrid approach by integrating the imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) with particle swarm optimization (PSO) method to deal with the combined heat and power economic dispatch (CHPED) problem with the bounded feasible operating region. Unlike many previous methods, this approach takes the valve-point effects explicitly into account as an absolute sinusoidal term in the conventional polynomial cost function. The efficiency and feasibility of the hybrid scheme are evaluated on three small (with three different scenarios), medium and large test systems. The simulation results suggest the superior performance of the proposed hybrid algorithm in finding optimum solutions compared to other existing methods.

Event-trigger-based Fault-tolerant Control of Uncertain Non-affine Systems with Predefined Performance

        Yang Yang,Yuwei Zhang,Zijin Wang,Xuefeng Si,Jinran Wu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2023 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.21 No.2

Fault-tolerant control (FTC) of a non-affine system with uncertainties is one of critical issues in nonlinear control. In this paper, in the presence of unknown actuator failures, an event-trigger-based FTC scheme is proposed for such a nonlinear system with predefined performance. For actuator failures, a compensation mechanism is designed to alleviate their impacts. By utilizing a predefined performance function, higher tracking accuracy can be obtained. Meanwhile, an event-triggered mechanism with a time-varying threshold, depending on tracking error, reduces the number of communications for a controller-to-actuator channel. An adaptive event-triggered function is then proposed with the compensation mechanism to improve the self-adjusting ability of the triggered function. Also, extended state observers and tracking differentiators are utilized to reconstruct unknown dynamics of the system and to simplify high-order derivation of virtual control laws, respectively. The stability of the closed-loop system is analyzed by input-to-state practically stability. Finally, two simulation results are supplied to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

A new interval perturbation method for static structural response bounds using radial basis neural network differentiation

        Yuwei Yao,Liqun Wang,Guolai Yang,Fengjie Xu,Lei Li 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.3

The interval perturbation method is an effective and successful tool in the uncertainty analysis; however, it suffers from the deficiency in the required differential information, which limits its application in complex engineering problems. To end this, this paper uses the radial basis neural network to formulate the derivative information, and its fine accuracy is demonstrated by a mathematical example. Moreover, a new interval analysis method combining interval perturbation and radial basis neural network differentiation, abbreviated as RBNNIPM is proposed. Furthermore, RBNNIPM is applied to calculate the boundaries of yield stress in a three-bar truss, and the detailed assessment proves that RBNNIPM has both high efficiency and high precision. Finally, an electromagnetic buffer model is established to certificate the practicability of RBNNIPM in practical engineering.

      • Ecogenomic responses of benthic communities under multiple stressors along the marine and adjacent riverine areas of northern Bohai Sea, China

        Xie, Yuwei,Hong, Seongjin,Kim, Seonjin,Zhang, Xiaowei,Yang, Jianghua,Giesy, John P.,Wang, Tieyu,Lu, Yonglong,Yu, Hongxia,Khim, Jong Seong Elsevier 2017 CHEMOSPHERE - Vol.172 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Benthic communities in the aquatic ecosystem are influenced by both natural and anthropogenic stressors. To understand the ecogenomic responses of sediment communities to the multiple stressors of polluted environments, the bacteria, protistan and metazoan communities in sediments from marine and adjacent riverine areas of North Bohai Sea were characterized by environmental DNA meta-systematics, and their associations with environmental variables were assessed by multiple statistical approaches. The bacterial communities were dominated by <I>Firmicutes</I> (mean 22.4%), <I>Proteobacteria</I> (mean 21.6%) and <I>Actinobacteria</I> (mean 21.5%). The protistan communities were dominated by <I>Ochrophyta</I> (33.7%), <I>Cercozoa</I> (18.9%) and <I>Ciliophora</I> (17.9%). <I>Arthropoda</I> (71.1%) dominated the metazoan communities in sediments. The structures of communities in sediments were shaped by both natural variables (spatial variability and/or salinity (presented as Na and Ca)) and anthropogenic contaminants, including DDTs, PAHs or metals (Cu, Al, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Ni and Zn). Particularly, the correlation network of multiple communities was modulated by the concentrations of Na and DDTs at the family level. Overall, environmental DNA meta-systematics can provide a powerful tool for biomonitoring, sediment quality assessment, and key stressors identification.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Bacterial, protistan and metazoan communities were characterized with ecogenomics. </LI> <LI> The influences of salinity on benthic communities overwhelmed these of pollutants. </LI> <LI> Variations of community structures also associated with DDTs, PAHs or metals. </LI> </UL> </P>

eDNA-based bioassessment of coastal sediments impacted by an oil spill

        Xie, Yuwei,Zhang, Xiaowei,Yang, Jianghua,Kim, Seonjin,Hong, Seongjin,Giesy, John P.,Yim, Un Hyuk,Shim, Won Joon,Yu, Hongxia,Khim, Jong Seong Elsevier 2018 Environmental pollution Vol.238 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Oil spills offshore can cause long-term ecological effects on coastal marine ecosystems. Despite their important ecological roles in the cycling of energy and nutrients in food webs, effects on bacteria, protists or arthropods are often neglected. Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding was applied to characterize changes in the structure of micro- and macro-biota communities of surface sediments over a 7-year period since the occurrence of <I>Hebei Spirit</I> oil <I>spil</I>l on December 7, 2007. Alterations in diversities and structures of micro- and macro-biota were observed in the contaminated area where concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were greater. Successions of bacterial, protists and metazoan communities revealed long-term ecological effects of residual oil. Residual oil dominated the largest cluster of the community-environment association network. Presence of bacterial families (<I>Aerococcaceae</I> and <I>Carnobacteriaceae</I>) and the protozoan family (<I>Platyophryidae</I>) might have conferred sensitivity of communities to oil pollution. Hydrocarbon-degrading bacterial families (<I>Anaerolinaceae</I>, <I>Desulfobacteraceae</I>, <I>Helicobacteraceae</I> and <I>Piscirickettsiaceae</I>) and algal family (<I>Araphid pennate</I>) were resistant to adverse effects of spilt oil. The protistan family (<I>Subulatomonas</I>) and arthropod families (<I>Folsomia</I>, <I>Sarcophagidae Opomyzoidea,</I> and <I>Anomura</I>) appeared to be positively associated with residual oil pollution. eDNA metabarcoding can provide a powerful tool for assessing effects of anthropogenic pollution, such as oil spills on sediment communities and its long-term trends in coastal marine environments.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Long-term ecological impact on coastal sediment community by an oil spill were accessed by eDNA metabarcoding. </LI> <LI> Residual oils altered the alpha-diversity, beta-diversity and compositions of multiple sedimentary communities. </LI> <LI> The largest cluster of the sedimentary community-environment association network was dominated by residual oils. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • Epigenetically Modified Bone Marrow Stromal Cells in Silk Scaffolds Promote Craniofacial Bone Repair and Wound Healing

        Han, Qianqian,Yang, Pishan,Wu, Yuwei,Meng, Shu,Sui, Lei,Zhang, Lan,Yu, Liming,Tang, Yin,Jiang, Hua,Xuan, Dongying,Kaplan, David L.,Kim, Sung Hoon,Tu, Qisheng,Chen, Jake Mary Ann Liebert 2015 Tissue engineering. Part A Vol.21 No.15

<P>Epigenetic regulation of gene expression is a central mechanism that governs cell stemness, determination, commitment, and differentiation. It has been recently found that PHF8, a major H4K20/H3K9 demethylase, plays a critical role in craniofacial and bone development. In this study, we hypothesize that PHF8 promotes osteoblastogenesis by epigenetically regulating the expression of a nuclear matrix protein, special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 2 (SATB2) that plays pivotal roles in skeletal patterning and osteoblast differentiation. Our results showed that expression levels of PHF8 and SATB2 in preosteoblasts and bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) increased simultaneously during osteogenic induction. Overexpressing PHF8 in these cells upregulated the expression of SATB2, Runx2, osterix, and bone matrix proteins. Conversely, knockdown of PHF8 reduced the expression of these genes. Furthermore, ChIP assays confirmed that PHF8 specifically bound to the transcription start site (TSS) of the SATB2 promoter, and the expression of H3K9me1 at the TSS region of SATB2 decreased in PHF8 overexpressed group. Implantation of the BMSCs overexpressing PHF8 with silk protein scaffolds promoted bone regeneration in critical-sized defects in mouse calvaria. Taken together, our results demonstrated that PHF8 epigenetically modulates SATB2 activity, triggering BMSCs osteogenic differentiation and facilitating bone formation and regeneration in biodegradable silk scaffolds.</P>

BF-30 effectively inhibits ciprofloxacin-resistant bacteria in vitro and in a rat model of vaginosis

        Jing Wang,Bing Li,Yang Li,Jie Dou,Qingru Hao,Yuwei Tian,Hui Wang,Changlin Zhou 대한약학회 2014 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.37 No.7

Bacterial infections are becoming increasinglydifficult to treat due to the increasing number of multidrugresistantstrains. Cathelicidin-BF (BF-30) is a cathelicidinlikeantimicrobial peptide and exhibits broad antimicrobialactivity against bacteria. In the present study, the antibacterialactivity of BF-30 against ciprofloxacin-resistantEscherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus was examined, and the protective effects of this peptide against these bacteriain rats with bacterial vaginosis were identified for thefirst time. The data showed that BF-30 had effective antimicrobialactivities against ciprofloxacin-resistant E. coliand S. aureus. The minimal inhibitory concentrations forboth bacterial strains were 16 lg/ml, and the minimal bactericidalconcentrations were 64 and 128 lg/ml, respectively. A time course experiment showed that the CFUcounts rapidly decreased after BF-30 treatment, and thebacteria were nearly eliminated within 4 h. BF-30 couldreduce the fold change (CFU/ml) in local colonization bydrug-resistant E. coli and S. aureus to 0.01 at a dose of0.8 mg/kg/day in the rats’ vaginal secretions. In addition,BF-30 induced membrane permeabilization and bound to thegenomic DNA, interrupting protein synthesis. Taken together, our data demonstrate that BF-30 has potential therapeuticvalue for the prevention and treatment of bacterialvaginosis.

miR-375 down-regulation of the rearranged L-myc fusion and hypoxia-induced gene domain protein 1A genes and effects on Sertoli cell proliferation

        Guo, Jia,Liu, Xin,Yang, Yuwei,Liang, Mengdi,Bai, Chunyan,Zhao, Zhihui,Sun, Boxing Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2018 Animal Bioscience Vol.31 No.8

Objective: This study aimed to screen and identify the target genes of miR-375 in pig Sertoli (ST) cells and to elucidate the effect of miR-375 on the proliferation of ST cells. Methods: In this study, bioinformatics software was used to predict and verify miR-375 target genes. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to detect the relationship between miR-375 and its target genes in ST cells. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) of rearranged L-myc fusion (RLF) and hypoxia-induced gene domain protein 1A (HIGD1A) was performed on porcine ST cells, which were transfected with a miR-375 mimics and inhibitor to verify the results. Dual luciferase reporter gene assays were performed to assess the interactions among miR-375, RLF, and HIGD1A. The effect of miR-375 on the proliferation of ST cells was analyzed by CellTiter 96 AQueous One Solution Cell Proliferation Assay (MTS). Results: Five possible target genes of miR-375, including RLF, HIGD1A, colorectal cancer associated 2, POU class 3 homeobox 1, and WW domain binding protein 1 like, were found. The results of quantitative PCR suggested that mRNA expression of RLF and HIGD1A had a negative correlation with miR-375, indicating that RLF and HIGD1A are likely the target genes of miR-375. The ELISA results revealed that RLF and HIGD1A were negatively correlated with the miR-375 protein level. The luminescence results for the miR-375 group cotransfected with wild-type RLF and HIGD1A vector were significantly lower than those of the miR-375 group co-transfected with the blank vector or mutant RLF and HIGD1A vectors. The present findings suggest that RLF and HIGD1A are target genes of miR-375 and that miR-375 inhibits ST cell proliferation according to MTS analysis. Conclusion: It was speculated that miR-375 affects cell proliferation through its target genes, which play an important role in the development of testicular tissue.
