Microplastics has a negative impact on marine ecosystems and humans. In this study, we developed microfluidic devices as microplastics trap modules using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) using photolithography or laser ablation. For a generation of turbulent flow to separate microplastics, several grooves were pattered inside the microfluidic channel. It proves that grooved channel is an efficient platform to trap the microplastics by recirculation. Finally, the microfluid trap module could be connected with PDMS mixer module to selectively stain the trapped microplastics my fluorescent dye.

Microplastics are small plastic particles less than 5 mm, and their environmental problems are caused by their increased accumulations throughout the food chains. However, there have been a number of hardships to qualify and quantify the amount of microplastics. In this study, we fabricate microfluidic mixer device using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) by SU-8 photolithography or by laser ablation method for efficient fluorescent labeling of individual microplastics inside of serpentine microfluidic channel. It shows that mixing channel is an efficient platform to fluorescently label the microplastics with a short time scale additionally with recirculation of fluorescent labeling mixture.
Fixed and mobile service convergence and reconfiguration of telecommunications value chains

The value chain model serves as a proper analytical tool of industry processes, particularly under rapidly changing telecommunications environments. This article attempts to provide a better understanding of the convergence between the fixed and mobile telecommunication industries by investigating changes in the value chains. Specifically, this article develops a new type of fixed-mobile convergence value chain, and highlights the importance of content and application providers in the new value chain. Some examples of fixed and mobile service convergence in Korea are discussed, and these confirm progress in fixed and mobile convergence, and reconfiguration of value chains.
Development of diverted plasma discharge and plan for advanced divertor study in VEST

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Operational scenario for diverted plasmas has been developed in Versatile Experiment Spherical Torus (VEST) not only for improving plasma performance but also for preparing upcoming experiments on advanced divertor concepts such as snowflake and x-point divertor. Diverted discharge scenario is designed using an in-house simulation code and experimentally realized by adjusting turn-on time of two partial solenoid (PF2) coils located at both ends of the center stack. With the diverted scenario, we achieve the improvement in plasma duration by ∼20% compared to the limited plasma operation, mainly due to the mitigation of impurity influxes from the center stack made of tungsten. Indeed, the impurity O-I line is observed to be decreased to 50% of the limited plasma operation. Fast camera images and equilibrium reconstruction based on magnetic diagnostics clearly shows the successful generation of diverted plasmas as well. This paper presents the first results on the diverted plasma operation in VEST and future plan for the experiments on the advanced divertor concept.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Diverted plasma is generated using the partial solenoid coils in VEST. </LI> <LI> Characteristics of the diverted plasma discharge are evaluated with various diagnostics. </LI> <LI> An advanced divertor concept is presented in this paper. </LI> </UL> </P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Since the tumor is extremely heterogeneous, a single biomarker cannot reflect the exact symptoms of the disease or its stage. Exosomes are biomarker reservoirs that provide disease information with a high accuracy, especially when specific markers, including microRNAs (miRNAs) and proteins, are combined. However, currently available exosomal miRNA and protein detection methods are time consuming, expensive, and laborious. Meanwhile, simultaneous detection of an exosomal miRNA and protein in a single reaction is even more challenging. Thus, development of an efficient method for detecting multiple miRNAs and proteins in a single exosomal reaction is highly needed. Herein, to increase the value of using exosomes over other circulating biomarkers for prostate cancer (PCa) liquid biopsy, a method for simultaneous multiplexed <I>in situ</I> detection of exosomal miRNAs and proteins was developed. Exosomal miRNAs and surface proteins were simultaneously detected in captured exosomes with a high specificity, using nano-sized molecular beacons and fluorescent dye-conjugated antibodies. The method allowed the quantitative analysis of various disease-specific miRNAs and surface proteins in PCa cell-derived exosomes in a single exosomal reaction. RFID는 차세대 유비쿼터스 환경에서 중요한 기술적, 산업적인 위치를 차지할 것으로 주목받고 있는데 향후 다양한 분야에서 새로운 시장을 창출할 것으로 기대되고 있다. 본 연구는 RFID 확산으로 인해 야기되는 정보보호 이슈들에 대응하기 위한 기업차원의 주요전략에 대해 고찰한다. 우선 RFID의 개요와 RFID관련 정보보호 문제들을 개관한 후 주요 선진국의 법제도적인 그리고 기술적인 차원에서의 대응을 분석한다. 이러한 분석을 바탕으로 RFID를 공급하는 기업의 입장에서, RFID를 적용하는 수요기업의 입장에서 그리고 정부 입장에서의 전략적인 대응방안을 도출한다. RFID (radio frequency identification) as a form of next-generation barcode has received a great deal of attention in the commercial world over the couple of years. In spite of the promise of enhanced efficiency and accuracy, RFID raises privacy and information security issues. This paper examines privacy and information security issues and describes current legal actions and technical solutions. In addition, this paper suggests that RFID vendors, users and government need to develop careful strategies coping with RFID security challenges to enjoy the magic of RFID.
