SRGAN을 활용한 Sentinel-2 영상의 초해상화와 GEDI LiDAR를 통한 캐노피 추정

The increasing importance of understanding the changes in forest ecosystems due to climate change has led to consistent research in estimating AGB (Above-Ground Biomass), which typically involves surveying or the use of aerial and satellite imagery. These methods, however, face challenges related to cost, labor, and determining the size of research areas. For the reason, it is unavoidably relying on freely available satellite imagery data. Thus, this study aims to use SRGAN (Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Network ) for enhancing the resolution of Sentinel-2 images and to estimate forest canopy height using GEDI (Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation) LiDAR. Specifically, the super-resolution process employed SRGAN to enhance the 10m spatial resolution of Sentinel-2 images to 2.5m, improving the ability to detect changes in forests using Sentinel-2 images. Furthermore, canopy height values from GEDI data were interpolated for unmeasured areas using OK (Ordinary Kriging) and IDW (Inverse Distance Weighting), allowing for the estimation of forest canopy height over a large area. Finally, this study analyzed the average values and distribution of the forest canopy, and utilized both GEDI and Sentinel-2 data for a more precise understanding of the forest ecosystem. Therefore, this research proposes a cost-effective method for extensive forest ecosystem monitoring, contributing to sustainable forest management and conservation.

The combination of trimethoprim (TMP) and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) has been shown to be active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) in clinical tuberculosis (TB) treatment. However, the mechanism of action of TMP-SMX against Mtb is still unknown. To unravel this, we have studied the effect of TMP and SMX by deleting the folP2 gene in Mycobacterium smegmatis (Msm), and overexpressing the Mtb and Msm folP1/2 genes in Msm. Knocking out of the folP2 gene in Msm reduced the minimum inhibitory concentration of SMX 8-fold compared with wild type. Overexpression of the folP1 genes from Mtb and Msm increased the MICs by 4- and 2-fold in Msm for SMX and TMP, respectively. We show a strong correlation between the expression of folP1 and folP2 genes and TMP-SMX resistance in mycobacteria. This suggests that a combination of FolP2 inhibitor and SMX could be used for TB treatment with a better outcome.

Suppressors of cytokine signaling (SOCS) have emerged as potential regulators of macrophage function. We have investigated mechanisms of SOCS3 action on type 2 macrophage (M2) differentiation induced by glucocorticoid using human monocytic cell lines and mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages. Treatment of THP1 monocytic cells with dexamethasone (Dex) induced ROS generation and M2 polarization promoting IL-10 and TGF-β production, while suppressing IL-1β, TNF-α and IL-6 production. SOCS3 over-expression reduced, whereas SOCS3 ablation enhanced IL-10 and TGF-β induction with concomitant regulation of ROS. As a mediator of M2 differentiation, glucocorticoid-induced leucine zipper (GILZ) was down-regulated by SOCS3 and up-regulated by shSOCS3. The induction of GILZ and IL-10 by Dex was dependent on ROS and p38 MAPK activity. Importantly, GILZ ablation led to the inhibition of ROS generation and anti-inflammatory cytokine induction by Dex. Moreover, GILZ knock-down negated the up-regulation of IL-10 production induced by shSOCS3 transduction. Our data suggest that SOCS3 targets ROS- and p38-dependent GILZ expression to suppress Dex-induced M2 polarization.

Objective: The emergency department (ED) serves as the initial point of contact for many sepsis patients, but crowding can affect the timely delivery of essential interventions, such as antibiotics. This paper explores the relationship between antibiotics administration and ED crowding in the context of sepsis management. Methods: This single-center study at a tertiary care hospital included adult patients aged 18 and above who visited the emergency department from January 2018 to December 2022. Patients showing signs of septic shock upon arrival were selected as the study population. This study examined factors such as emergency department occupancy, antibiotic administration time, and their correlation with timely antibiotic treatment. Results: This study of 839 adult patients with septic shock found a weak correlation (P=0.107) between the time to antibiotic administration and department occupancy. Delayed antibiotic administration was observed when the occupancy exceeded 100%. On the other hand, there was no significant correlation between antibiotic administration within one hour and department occupancy. Conclusion: Various factors, such as ED bed occupancy, medical staffing, resource allocation, and patient acuity, must be considered when comprehensively evaluating the impact of ED overcrowding on treating septic shock and other conditions.
