Recent advances in the development of gene delivery systems

Background: Gene delivery systems are essentially necessary for the gene therapy of human genetic diseases. Gene therapy is the unique way that is able to use the adjustable gene to cure any disease. The gene therapy is one of promising therapies for a number of diseases such as inherited disorders, viral infection and cancers. The useful results of gene delivery systems depend open the adjustable targeting gene delivery systems. Some of successful gene delivery systems have recently reported for the practical application of gene therapy. Main body: The recent developments of viral gene delivery systems and non-viral gene delivery systems for gene therapy have briefly reviewed. The viral gene delivery systems have discussed for the viral vectors based on DNA, RNA and oncolytic viral vectors. The non-viral gene delivery systems have also treated for the physicochemical approaches such as physical methods and chemical methods. Several kinds of successful gene delivery systems have briefly discussed on the bases of the gene delivery systems such as cationic polymers, poly(L-lysine), polysaccharides, and poly(ethylenimine)s. Conclusion: The goal of the research for gene delivery system is to develop the clinically relevant vectors such as viral and non-viral vectors that use to combat elusive diseases such as AIDS, cancer, Alzheimer, etc. Next step research will focus on advancing DNA and RNA molecular technologies to become the standard treatment options in the clinical area of biomedical application.

Umbilical artery blood flow velocity waveforms were compared with placental pathology 20 in 20 pregnant women. The populations consisted of 14 pregnancy-induced hypertension, 6 cases with normal pregnancy outcome. The small muscular arterial count was shown to be significantly less in the group with high S/D ratio than that in the group with normal S/D ratio (p<0.05). Significant differences were found when birth weight, placental weight, gestational age at delivery and the number of small muscular arteries in the placenta were compared. Also, there were significant changes of stromal shrinkage, acute infarct, endarterial obliterance in micorscopic findings between two group . These finding suggested that Doppler velocimetry may predict the placental pathology in complicated pregnancies.

Drinking coffee becomes an essential part of everyday life next to drinking water. As the coffee consumption increased, the number of coffee shops, including large franchise coffee shops and small roaster coffee shops, multiplied over th past years. But it becomes clear that the coffee shop industry has becoming saturated. Therefore it is time for the managers of coffee shop industry have to consider and develop ways to survive and respond to this market changes. In this paper we have surveyed the coffee industries in developed countries such as United States of America, European countries, and Japan, and then compared them to Korean coffee industry to identify the key factors for survival. The coffee shops that have competitive advantages and satisfy customer needs will survive in the future. Therefore CEOs of coffee shop industry have to adapt and refine their business in respond to market condition and changing customer needs.
호르몬 대체요법시 사용된 약제에 따른 혈중 지질대사 및 골밀도의 변화

Objective: This study was to evaluate the effect of hormone replacement therapy on lipid metabolism and bone mineral density through estrogen, cyclic estrogen/progesterone combination and Tibolone. Method : 204 postmenopausal women were divided into 3 groups; hysterectomized women were treated with 0.625mg conjugated equine estrogens only/day (n=50), nonhysterecomized women were treated with 2mg estradiol valerate(E2)/day and 1mg cyproterone acetate(CPA)/day for 12 of each 28 days (n=130), or Tibolone 2,5mg/day(n=24). The effects on lipid profile and bone mineral density were evaluated at baseline and after 12, 24, 36 and 48 months of treatment. Results : Conjugated equine estrogen reduced significantly the serum LDL cholesterol levels and increased triglycerides, E2/CPA increased significantly the serum HDL cholesterol levels and serum total cholesterol levels were increased in both group without significance. Tibolone reduced markedly not only the serum total cholesterol levels, HDL cholesterol levels, and triglyceride levels, but also increased mildly the serum LDL cholesterol levels. There was no significant difference between femoral neck BMD through 48 months of therapy in the three groups, but E2/CPA increased significantly the lumbar spine BMD through 48 month of therapy. Conclusion : Each of conjugated equine estrogen, E2/CPA or Tibolone induced a different mixed changes on the lipid profile. The reduction in HDL cholesterol induced by Tibolone may be able to be offset by the substantial falls in triglycerides, total cholesterol.

Sacrococcygeal teratoma(SCT) is rare malformation which may reach a large size and cause considerable difficulty during delivery. Recently authors diagnosed this fetal tumor using ultrasonography during antenatal period, so we present this case with a brief review of the literatures.
