Wind-induced responses of super-tall buildings with various atypical building shapes
Kim, Y.C.,Tamura, Y.,Tanaka, H.,Ohtake, K.,Bandi, E.K.,Yoshida, A. Elsevier Scientific Pub. Co 2014 Journal of wind engineering and industrial aerodyn Vol.133 No.-
A wind tunnel tests were conducted on 13 super-tall building models with atypical building shapes under an urban area flow. The primary purpose of the present study was to directly compare the wind load effects on atypical super-tall buildings. Time history analyses were conducted using a frame model by inputting local wind forces at the center of each floor. The results show that the peak normal stresses on a square model are the largest among all the models tested, the setback model shows the smallest peak normal stresses of the single modification models tested, and CC+TP+360Hel shows the smallest peak normal stresses of the multiple modification models tested. The contributions of bending moments are about 20% of the total, and most of the peak normal stresses resulted from axial force. The increase in bending moment in the across-wind direction becomes significant as the damping ratio decreases, and the sensitivity of the peak normal stresses for the helical and multiple modification models to damping ratio is smaller than those of the other models. From the analyses for the various loading conditions, it was found that the contribution of bending moment in the along-wind direction is the largest and that of torsional moment is almost negligible.

Objective: We have performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify genetic variants that confer susceptibility to myocardial infarction (MI) in Japanese and Korean populations. Methods: A total of 17,447 Japanese or Korean individuals from four independent subject panels was examined. Japanese subject panels A, B, and C comprised 134 individuals with MI and 137 controls, 1431 individuals with MI and 3161 controls, and 643 individuals with MI and 1347 controls, respectively, whereas the Korean population comprised 1880 individuals with MI and 8714 controls. A GWAS for MI was performed in Japanese subject panel A with the use of the Affymetrix GeneChip Human Mapping 500K Array Set. Results: Seventy single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) significantly (P<1.0x10-7) associated with MI by the GWAS were examined further in Japanese subject panel B, revealing two SNPs (rs6929846 of BTN2A1, rs2569512 of ILF3) to be significantly (P<0.0007) associated with MI. The rs6929846 SNP of BTN2A1, but not rs2569512 of ILF3, was also significantly associated with MI in Japanese subject panel C. However, the association of neither rs6929846 nor rs2569512 with MI was replicated in the Korean population. Conclusion: BTN2A1 may be a susceptibility gene for MI in Japanese individuals.

Bovine blastocysts were obtained by totally in-vitro technique and then transferred to recipient cows. Total of 15 calves (including 4 premature calves) were obtained from 11 recipients. Four calves were obtained from the transfers of fresh blastocysts and 9 calves were obtained from the transfers of frozen-thawed blastocysts. Two calves were obtained from the bisected fresh blastocyst. The males and 5 females were delivered. Birth weight of calves was within normal range except one female, and all calves appeared to be completely normal.
