LncRNA A2M-AS1 lessens the injury of cardiomyocytes caused by hypoxia and reoxygenation via regulating IL1R2

        Xue‑Lian Song,Fei‑Fei Zhang,Wen‑Jing Wang,Xin‑Ning Li,Yi Dang,Ying‑Xiao Li,Qian Yang,Mei‑Jing Shi,Xiao‑Yong Qi 한국유전학회 2020 Genes & Genomics Vol.42 No.12

Background: Myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury (MI/RI) is a complex pathophysiological process, which can lead to severe myocardial injury. The long noncoding RNA alpha-2-macroglobulin antisense RNA 1 (A2M-AS1) has been revealed to be abnormally expressed in MI, However, its function in MI and the potential mechanism are still unclear. Objective: To evaluate the functional role of A2M-AS1 in hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-induced neonatal cardiomyocytes and its potential molecular mechanism. Methods: Dataset GSE66360 was obtained from GEO database for analyzing the RNA expression of A2M-AS1 and interleukin 1 receptor type 2 (IL1R2). KEGG pathway enrichment analysis of the genes that co-expressed with A2M-AS1 was performed. Human neonatal cardiomyocytes were subjected to H/R to construct in vitro models. QRT-PCR and Western blot were adopted to test the levels of mRNA and protein. The viability and apoptosis of cardiomyocytes were tested by CCK-8 and flow cytometry assays, respectively. Results: The expression of A2M-AS1 was notably downregulated in H/R-treated cardiomyocytes. Overexpression of A2M-AS1 can notably enhance the cell viability of H/R-damaged cardiomyocytes, whereas knockdown of A2M-AS1 showed the opposite outcomes. Besides, a negative correlation was showed between A2M-AS1 and IL1R2 expression. In H/R-treated cardiomyocytes, overexpression of IL1R2 weakened the promoting proliferation and anti-apoptosis effects caused by overexpressing A2M-AS1, however, IL1R2-knockdown abolished the anti-proliferation and pro-apoptosis effects caused by silencing A2M-AS1. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the potential regulatory role of A2M-AS1/ IL1R2 axis in cardiomyocytes suffered from H/R, and provides insight into the protection of MI/RI.

      • Treatment of fever with traditional Chinese medicine according to Zheng on cancer patients (based on case reports)

        Peng Cao,Lan-Ying Liu,Xue-Ting Cai,Xiao-Ning Wang,Jie-Ge Huo,Zhong-Ying Zhou 셀메드 세포교정의약학회 2012 셀메드 (CellMed) Vol.2 No.2

Fever in cancer patients is often due to the following causes: evil qi and toxity stagnancy, disorders of qi and blood, deficiencies of zang and fu organs, and the disorder of yin and yang. The treatments given to cancer patients with a fever are according to five: (a) Excessive inner heat and toxicants: remove heat and the toxicant, induce purgation. We use Cheng-Qi-Tang plus Qing-Wen-Bai-Du-Yin. (b) Tangle of damp and heat, and qi stagnancy: remove damp and heat, smooth the qi channel. We use Gan-Lu-Xiao-Du-Dan or San-Ren-Tang. (c) Obvious blood and heat stagnancy: remove heat and blood stasis. We use Xue-Fu-Zhu-Yu-Tang. (d) Deficiency of spleen qi, inner heat caused by a yin deficiency: nourish spleen qi and yin to remove the inner heat. We use Bu-Zhong-Yi-Qi-Tang or Xiao-Jian-Zhong-Tang. (e) Prominent yin deficiency and hectic fever: replenish yin and remove inner heat. We use Qing-Hao-Bie-Jia-Tang or Chai-Qian-Mei-Lian-San. The pathogenesis of fever in cancer patients is complicated. We can see both deficiency and excess in one differentiation. Therefore, we must make sure of it, then we can get the most effective treatment.

      • Adoption of Smart Sustainability Performance Measurement System (SPMS) in Hotels and Variations across Ratings, Reviews, and Operational Efficiency Scores

Ning, Xue,Yim, Dobin,Khuntia, Jiban Smart Tourism Research Center 2021 Journal of smart tourism Vol.1 No.2

Hotels have recently started to implement enterprise information systems to measure and report sustainability indicators in a smart manner. However, a complex ownership structure in a hotel chain prevents full smart systems adoption at the individual property level. This study explores how a smart sustainability performance measurement system (SPMS) for waste management adoption correlates with customer ratings, customer reviews, operational efficiency scores, and between franchised and corporate-managed properties. We derive insights from the secondary data constructed from multiple sources for a large multinational hotel chain hotel. The findings suggest that hotels that adopt SPMS have better operational efficiency scores and more customer reviews. Within the hotels that adopted SPMS, corporate-managed hotels have a lower level of ratings than franchised hotels, but they have higher operational efficiency scores and more reviews. We discuss research implications for the concept of smart tourism and hotel management literature and managerial implications.

Plasma Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor and CCL3 as Potential Biomarkers for Distinguishing Patients with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma from High-Risk Individuals Who Have Positive Epstein-Barr Virus Capsid Antigen-Specific IgA

        Ning Xue,Jian-Hua Lin,Shan Xing,Dan Liu,Shi-Bing Li,Yan-Zhen Lai,Xue-Ping Wang,Min-Jie Mao,Qian Zhong,Mu-Sheng Zeng,Wan-Li Liu 대한암학회 2019 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.51 No.1

Purpose The purpose of this study was to identify novel plasma biomarkers for distinguishing nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients from healthy individuals who have positive Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) viral capsid antigen (VCA-IgA). Materials and Methods One hundred seventy-four plasma cytokines were analyzed by a Cytokine Array in eight healthy individuals with positive EBV VCA-IgA and eight patients with NPC. Real-time polymerase chain reaction, Western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and immunohistochemistry were employed to detect the expression levels of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and CC chemokine ligand 3 (CCL3) in NPC cell lines and tumor tissues. Plasma MIF and CCL3 were measured by ELISA in 138 NPC patients, 127 EBV VCA-IgA negative (VN) and 100 EBV VCA-IgA positive healthy donors (VP). Plasma EBV VCA-IgA was determined by immunoenzymatic techniques. Results Thirty-four of the 174 cytokines varied significantly between the VP and NPC group. Plasma MIF and CCL3 were significantly elevated in NPC patients compared with VN and VP. Combination of MIF and CCL3 could be used for the differential diagnosis of NPC from VN cohort (area under the curve [AUC], 0.913; sensitivity, 90.00%; specificity, 80.30%), and combination of MIF, CCL3, and VCA-IgA could be used for the differential diagnosis of NPC from VP cohort (AUC, 0.920; sensitivity, 90.00%; specificity, 84.00%), from (VN+VP) cohort (AUC, 0.961; sensitivity, 90.00%; specificity, 92.00%). Overexpressions of MIF and CCL3 were observed in NPC plasma, NPC cell lines and NPC tissues. Conclusion Plasma MIF, CCL3, and VCA-IgA combination significantly improves the diagnostic specificity of NPC in high-risk individuals.

Analytical solution for natural frequency of monopile supported wind turbine towers

        Xue-Ning Rong,Ri-Qing Xu,Heng-Yu Wang,Su-Yang Feng 한국풍공학회 2017 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.25 No.5

In this study an analytical expression is derived for the natural frequency of the wind turbine towers supported on flexible foundation. The derivation is based on a Euler-Bernoulli beam model where the foundation is represented by a stiffness matrix. Previously the natural frequency of such a model is obtained from numerical or empirical method. The new expression is based on pure physical parameters and thus can be used for a quick assessment of the natural frequencies of both the real turbines and the small-scale models. Furthermore, a relationship between the diagonal and non-diagonal element in the stiffness matrix is introduced, so that the foundation stiffness can be obtained from either the p-y analysis or the loading test. The results of the proposed expression are compared with the measured frequencies of six real or model turbines reported in the literature. The comparison shows that the proposed analytical expression predicts the natural frequency with reasonable accuracy. For two of the model turbines, some errors were observed which might be attributed to the difference between the dynamic and static modulus of saturated soils. The proposed analytical solution is quite simple to use, and it is shown to be more reasonable than the analytical and the empirical formulas available in the literature.

Vol.9 No.4

Smartphone is a new generation of mobile phones and it is a good example of ubiquitous computing technology. Users can surf the internet anytime and anywhere through the easy touch-screen interface. Also users can connect with their friends in more efficient ways than calling or texting messages. Besides, its prominent hardware and software support all kinds of applications for work and entertainment (Charlesworth, 2009). Verkasalo et al. (2010) pointed that Smartphone is a device that can be used as a mobile phone as well as a handheld computer, they also argued that it is the user rather than the device who controls the Smartphone. When users interact with Smartphone, their experience of using Smartphone is derived from such interactions. Goto, K. defines User Experience (UX) as the overall perception and comprehensive interaction an individual has with a company, service or product (Wang et al., 2008). Experience is an intangible process of interaction between people and the world that exists in humans`` minds and is triggered by new interactions. These may create different types of experiences such as physical, sensual, cognitive, emotional, and aesthetic (Davis, 1992). From this aspect, after using Smartphone, users`` experience on the functions of it and their social experiences with it might be very important in decid- ing if they continue to use Smartphones. Given the growth of the number of Smartphone users and the competition among Smartphone manufacturers and service providers, it is important to understand the dynamics that govern the continued usage intention of Smartphone. However, previous researches on this topic have mostly focused on problems such as creating efficient interfaces, developing usable systems, and establishing technologies, which paid more attention to the facet of functions of the Smartphone itself rather than studying from users`` psychological perspective (Lin and Ye, 2009; Abowd et al., 2005; Verstockt et al., 2009). On the other hand, over the last few years there have been various attempts to provide a comprehensive theory or framework of user experience (Swallow et al., 2005; Wang et al., 2008; Oza et al., 2010; Deng and Li, 2008). Since people spend more and more time with Smartphones, the experience users have with Smartphones is likely to be a key factor in the cognitive process users experience in developing their continued usage intention. Upon this basis, in contrast to previous researches, we employ the concept of User Experience (UX) as the antecedents in this study to explain the continued usage intention of Smartphone, Therefore, this study focuses on users`` experience to assess their further attitudes and behaviors. Users’ experience is represented in two aspects, one is functional experience which includes usability and security, and the other is social experience which includes sociability and social identity. A research model was developed to conceptualize the relationships between these UX factors as antecedent variables and continued usage intention of Smartphons as consequent variables with two intermediary variables. Specifically, we considered perceived enjoyment (PE) and perceived usefulness (PU) as mediating factors between UX factors and the continued usage intention of Smartphone (CUI) since it is widely used not only for functional purposes but for entertainment and social relations. Then our research model was tested empirically by using a survey data collected from diverse Smartphone users. Our results suggest that experience about functional factors and social factors of Smartphone after using Smartphones can influence the perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment of their usage, which, in turn, influence users`` continued usage intention of Smartphones. More specifically, we found that usability has a significant positive impact on both PU and PE, while security has a strong effect on PE, although no such significant impact was observed on PU. Some previous researchers pointed out that Smartphones are vulnerable and, therefore, security is a very important factor influencing the perceived usefulness of Smartphones. However, security did not affect perceived usefulness of Smartphones significantly in our result. A plausible explanation for this result might be that approximately 60% of our survey respondents are students and they do not consider security issue seriously because they use Smartphones mostly for entertainment or social interactions rather than for job or work related purposes. However, it does not mean security issue is not important for usefulness of Smartphones or the current level of security of Smartphone is perfect. Moreover, sociability is found to affect both PE and PU, while social identity have significant impact on PU only. Besides, PE showed a significant effect on perceived usefulness of using Smartphone and both PE and PU positively affected CUI. Main contributions of this research are as following. First the concept of user experience, which is a relatively new concept in MIS researches, was adopted to explain users’ continued intention to use Smartphones. Moreover, not only functional experience but social experience was included as user experience factors. This paper also makes contributions in understanding the important factors affecting users’ continued usage intention of Smartphones and the dynamics of these effects, which can provide useful information for Smartphone service providers. There are, however, some limitations inherent in this study. Although user experience is a broad concept, we focused only a part of it. Other aspects of user experience may be considered in future researches. More systematic research on user experience may be also needed related with Smartphone usage. In our survey data, relatively large number of university students were included, therefore, we have limitation in generalizing the results. Since the survey data were gathered from Korean, the analysis results may be subject to culture and/or other environmental biases. In future researches, we may use survey data from users of different countries and also implement a cross country analysis.

Chromatic Characteristics and Anthocyanin Compositions of Cabernet Sauvignon Wines: Influence of Indigenous Saccharomyces cerevisiae Strains in Ningxia, China

        Ning Liu,Yu-Yang Song,Yi Qin,Xue Gong,Yan-Lin Liu 한국식품과학회 2015 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.24 No.6

Eight Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains were used for preparation of Cabernet Sauvignon musts from Yuma vineyard in China, where the strains were isolated, to study the importance of yeast strain for optimization of Cabernet Sauvignon wine color and anthocyanin composition. Differences in chromatic characteristics between indigenous yeast strains and a commercial F15 control were not found. Twenty-one anthocyanins were detected and quantified using HPLC-MS. Concentrations of anthocyanins were significantly (p<0.05) influenced by the yeast strain used. Use of the commercial F15 yeast resulted in the highest anthocyanin concentration. Among 9 pyranoanthocyanins detected, amounts of must were influenced by the yeast strain used. The color of wine produced using the N11424 yeast was more stable because of a higher pyranoanthocyanin concentration. Use of Principal Component Analysis indicated that indigenous yeast treatments were separated from the F15 control yeast treatment based on anthocyanin components.
