        Effects of microwave-assisted annealing on the morphology and electrical performance of semiconducting polymer thin films

        Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) based on p-channel polymer semiconductors such as poly(3-hexyl)thiophene (P3HT) and 30-diketopyrrolopyrrole-selenophene vinylene selenophene (30-DPP-SVS) were fabricated using a microwave (MW) irradiation process for thermal annealing. The influence of MW annealing was investigated based on microstructural characterizations such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). MW annealing not only shortened the annealing time, but also produced enhanced device performance including higher on/off ratio, lower threshold voltage, and higher field-effect mobility in comparison with the traditional annealing method. These microstructural analyses revealed that annealing by MW irradiation enhances the crystallinity and molecular orientation in the polymer thin films in a short time, thereby improving the electrical performance effectively. Our results suggest that MW-assisted annealing is a simple and viable method for enhancing OFET performance.

        Orientation Dependent Twinning Behavior in a Twinning-induced Plasticity Steel Investigated by Nanoindentation

        The present work focuses on the mechanical behavior of single austenite grain with different orientations in a twinninginduced plasticity (TWIP) steel by nanoindentation test. Deformation twins can be found in [0 0 1]-orientated grains afternanoindentation, while they are absent in grains with [1 1 1] orientation. This inconformity can be ascribed to a largerSchmid factor for leading partial dislocations compared to trailing partial dislocations on the primary slip system in [0 01]-orientated grains during compression. Different from deformation twins, high-density dislocations can be found in both[0 0 1] and [1 1 1]-orientated grains after nanoindentation. The present work suggests that the density of deformation twinscan be enhanced by controlling crystal orientation through texture engineering or by deformation along different directionssuch as cross-rolling.

        Alleviating Neuropathic Pain Hypersensitivity by Inhibiting PKM in the Anterior Cingulate Cortex

        <P>Synaptic plasticity is a key mechanism for chronic pain. It occurs at different levels of the central nervous system, including spinal cord and cortex. Studies have mainly focused on signaling proteins that trigger these plastic changes, whereas few have addressed the maintenance of plastic changes related to chronic pain. We found that protein kinase M zeta (PKM관) maintains pain-induced persistent changes in the mouse anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). Peripheral nerve injury caused activation of PKM관 in the ACC, and inhibiting PKM관 by a selective inhibitor, 관-pseudosubstrate inhibitory peptide (ZIP), erased synaptic potentiation. Microinjection of ZIP into the ACC blocked behavioral sensitization. These results suggest that PKM관 in the ACC acts to maintain neuropathic pain. PKM관 could thus be a new therapeutic target for treating chronic pain.</P>

        Enhanced energy storage properties in PbZrO3 thin films via the incorporation of NiO

        In this study, NiO–PbZrO3 composite films were deposited on SiO2/Si substrates buffered with LaNiO3 films via the sol-gel coating technique. The effects of NiO addition in PZO thin films on the microstructure, dielectric properties, leakage mechanism, ferroelectric properties and energy storage properties have been discussed. The dielectric constant increased with the addition of NiO, while the leakage current density decreased. Compared with pure PZO films, the maximum polarization of the composite films was improved. For the composite films prepared using the NiO precursor solution with 0.05 mol/L, the recoverable energy storage density of the NiO-PZO composite film is up to 19.6 J/cm3 under the electric field of 1038 kV/cm, which is 30% higher than that of the pure PZO film under the same conditions. Also, the energy storage efficiency of the composite film reaches 48%. Accordingly, we demonstrate a simple and convenient method by adding NiO to fabricate thin films with high energy storage performance.

        Characterization and Mapping of the Bovine FBP1 Gene

        Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBP1) is a key regulatory enzyme of gluconeogenesis that catalyzes the hydrolysis of fructose-1,6-bisphosphate to generate fructose-6-phosphate and inorganic phosphate. Deficiency of fructose-1, 6-bisphosphatase is associated with fasting hypoglycemia and metabolic acidosis. The enzyme has been shown to occur in bacteria, fungi, plants and animals. The bovine FBP1 gene was cloned and characterized in this study. The full length (1,241 bp) FBP1 mRNA contained an open reading frame (ORF) encoding a protein of 338 amino acids, a 63 bp 5' untranslated region (UTR) and a 131 bp 3' UTR. The bovine FBP1 gene was 89%, 85%, 82%, 82% and 74% identical to the orthologs of pig, human, mouse, rat and zebra fish at mRNA level, and 97%, 96%, 94%, 93% and 91% identical at the protein level, respectively. This gene was broadly expressed in cattle with the highest level in testis, and the lowest level in heart. An intronic single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (A/G) was identified in the $5^{th}$ intron of the bovine FBP1 gene. Genotyping of 133 animals from four beef breeds revealed that the average frequency for allele A (A-base) was 0.7897 (0.7069-0.9107), while 0.2103 (0.0893-0.2931) for allele B (G-base). Our preliminary association study indicated that this SNP is significantly associated with traits of Average Daily Feed Intake (ADFI) and Carcass Length (CL) (p<0.01). In addition, the FBP1 gene was assigned on BTA8 by a hybrid radiation (RH) mapping method.
