The goal of this study was to determine the uniaxial flow curve for solder balls in a flip-chip from experimental-computational algorithms based on finite element modeling (FEM) of in-plane thermal displacement data measured by electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI). In order to measure the deformation of such tiny components as the solder balls in the flip-chip, the spatial resolution of ESPI was increased to submicron scale by magnifying the areas studied. The flow curve for solder balls in the flip-chip was determined by the algorithm, which effectively matches the simulated solder deformation by FEM to the measured deformation by ESPI. The algorithms were applied to Sn-36Pb-2Ag flip-chip solder balls. The flow curve obtained for flip-chip solder was compared with those for bulk solder. The microstructure was also studied to clarify the flow curve results.

The orthognathic surgery for esthetic and functional improvement has developed for 150 years. Today, we can expect the better prognosis which is based on the early trial & error and advanced analysis technique. However, conservatism which advocates upholding of traditions and passive changes has been obstacle to scientific modernization as a contemporary co-worker. IVRI, ILRO, IVSRO, IVRO-SSRO, SSRO have been used to orthognathic surgery variously. In this article, we are going to compare IVRO, ILO with SSRO and advocate superiority of SSRO.

Sagittal split osteotomy (SSRO) is an indispensable and most popular operation for correction of mandibular deformity. The procedure was considered of bony contact surface and nerve injury in the early stage. The procedure has undergone continuous surgical modifications for condylar displacement, relapse, psychologic analysis, functional & esthetic improvement, fixation method and postoperative evaluation of soft tissue change over time. In this article, we compared the contemporary operation method with new method which was designed through ramal computed tomography. Now we are going to introduce novel conceptual SSRO namely CNU-SSRO designed by Chonbuk National University and suggest the standardization of pre-existed SSRO.

Surgical removal of the submandibular gland via intraoral approach was performed. The surgical procedure to be used for removal of submandibular gland had been performed via extraoral approach for many centuries. Disadvantages of extraoral technique are the esthetic distress due to an external scar, residual inflammation in Wharton's duct, and neurological complications. Indications of intraoral approach are unlimited in surgical cases of submandibular gland. Advantages of intraoral approach are esthetic satisfaction due to no remaining scars, preservation of adjacent anatomical structures and preservation of lower facial contour. This paper describes the surgical technique of the submandibular gland excision through an intraoral approach and variable incision lines tried. In 7 cases, excellentresults were obtained after removal of the submandibular gland through an intraoral approach.
Spin-Peierls 전이를 하는 CuGeO₃계의 이온 치환 효과

Spin-Peierls 전이를 하는 CuGeO₃계에 원소를 치환했을 때의 자기적 및 결정학적 특성을 비교 검토하고, 직접 Cu₁-xGe₁-xFe₂O₃(x=0.05, 0.1) 시료를 제조하여 SQUID, Mssbauer 분광기, X-선 회절 방법으로 연구하였다. 이 시료의 결정구조는 orthorhombic 이고 격자 상수는 x= 0.05 때 a = 4.795Å, b=8.472Å, c=2.904Å 이고 x=0.1때는 a=4.784Å, b=8.472Å, c=2.904Å였다. 상온에서 Mssbauer 스펙트럼은 Fe³+ 이온의 사면체 자리에 의한 이중선과 팔면체 자리에 의한 Zeeman 선으로 중첩되어 나타났고 자기감수율의 극대점과 Mssbauer 변수의 불연속으로부터 본 시료의 spin-Peierls 전이 온도는 13K 임을 알아냈다. The magnetic and crystallograpic properties of the substituted spin-Peierls transition CuGeO₃ system have been reviewed, and we synthesized the Cu₁-xGe₁-xFe₂xO₃ (x=0.05 and x=0.1) system and studied by superconducting quantum interference device, Mossbauer spectrometer and x-ray diffractometer. The crystal structure is orthorhombic and the lattice constants are decreased as increasing iron contents. That is, in Cu₁-xGe₁-xFe₂xO₃ system a=4.795Å, b=8.472Å and c=2.932Å for x=0.05, and a=4.784Å, b=8.472Å and c=2.904Å for x=0.1 respectively. The Mossbauer spectra are superposition of the doublet due to the Fe³+ ions at tetrahedral sites and the sextet due to the Fe³+ ions at octahedral sites at room temperature. From the cusp of the magnetic susceptibility and the discontinuity of Mossbauer parameters we found the spin-Peierls transition temperature of our samples is 13K.

The dramatic variations in structure and internal stress in an amorphous silicon carbide film (a-SiC) induced by forming process have been reported extensively. Vapor-depositions of a-SiC film were simulated by molecular dynamics simulation employing the Tersoff potential. To understand effect of substrate temperature that is one of the most important factors involved in the changes in structure and intrinsic stress, the vapor-depositions at various substrate temperatures (500-2500 K) were performed. Then, the MD simulations of cooling to 298 K were carried out. For both cooled and as-deposited a-SiC films, the analyses of structure and internal stress with deposition process parameters entailed the calculation of density, chemical order, and in-plane stress [(σ_(xx)+σ_(yy))/2].

Bluntness is inevitable at the tip of a sharp indenter such as the Berkovich indenter used in nanoindentation experiments; this bluntness causes the hardness values observed at low contact depths (<~100 nm) to fall below the Nix and Gao model curve. We present an indentation size effect (ISE) model that extends the available contact depth for ISE application down to several tens of nanometers by considering the tip bluntness effect. The present model reflects the effect of tip bluntness on the distribution of geometrically necessary dislocations needed to accommodate the blunted tip, and the change in the ratio of plastic to total contact depth with contact depth. We applied the present model to nanoindentation results for annealed and strain-hardened Cu, and to previously reported nanoindentation results for surface-nanocrystallized Al-alloy. Good fit was observed between the present model and the hardness results over the full contact depth range. (Received July 22, 2004)
Helicobacter pylori 편모 유전자의 클로닝 및 염기서열 분석

A λgt11 expression libary of H. pylori DNA in E. coli Y1090 was screened with flagellin-specific rabbit antiserum for molecular cloning of the flagellin gene of H. pylori. A positive clone, λHPF4, was obtained and the recombinant antigen expressed from λHPF4 was a fusion protein with the molecular weight of 168kd. Sequence analysis of antigen-encoding DNA showed that an open reading frame composed of 1,536 nucleotides encodes a polypepride with a oredicted molecular size of 54kd. This open reading frame did not show the homology with flaA gene encoding 56kd protein of H. pylori and was confirmed as a unique sequence through homoligy searching. Therefore, the cloned antigen is supposed to be the carboxy-terminal region of the other flagellin protein of H. pylori, flaB, with the molecular weight of 58kd.
