In order to elucidate the effect of pH on the adsorption-inactivation (difference in toxicity)of 4 her-bicides (nitrofen, 2,4-D, butachlor, benthiocarb), a bioassay technique using various media and regulating the pH of media(4.5:6.5) was carried out. The media was made by adding organic matter(2%), montmorillonite(3%), and kaolinite(5%) to sand, respectively. 'The results are summarized as follows : 1, No dependence of adsorption·inactivation on pH by butachlor, benthiocarb and nitrofen was observed. 2, At low PH 4.5, the toxicity was low(high adsorption-inactivation) than high pH 6,5 in 2,4-Dtreated plot regardless of kinds of media. 3. Extent of adsorption-inactivation by ·the kinds of added adsorbent was increased by the order of organic matter>montmorillonite>kaolinite regardless of herbicides and pH. In order to elucidate the effects of C. E. C. , water holding capacity, phosphorous absorption coefficient on adsorption-inactivation of 6 herbicides (butachlor, benthiocarb, 2,4-D, nitrofen, simetryne, linuron) ,a bioassay technique using 10 soils of various composition was carried out. The results are as follows: 1. The CR50 values of test plants of each herbicide on the 10 treated soils were increased as C. E. C.,water holding capacity and phosphorous· absorption coffcient increased. 2, Positive high correlation between GR50 values and C.E. C., water, bolding capacity, and phosphorous absorption coefficient was observed. That is, C. E. C. versus adserption r= 0.63-0.86 (most highest) ,water holding capacity versus adsorption r= 0.56-0.85, phosphorous absorption coefficient versus absorption r= 0.35-0.86 (the lowest). In order to elucidate the effect of temperature on the adsorption-inactivation of 4 herbicides, a bioassaytechnique using various media at the specified temperature was carried out. The media was made of sand added with organic matter(2%), montmorillonite(3 %), and kaolinito(5 %), respectively. The results are summarized as follows: 1. At low temperature(10-15℃), the adsorption was higher than at high temperature(24-28℃) ,through the three media, regardless of herbicides and, their concentrations

Germination Characteristics of Some Red Rice Accessions

Kyoung, Eun-Seon,Kim, Jin-Key,Kim, Jong-Seok,Ma, Sang-Yong,Ryang, Whan-Seong The Korean Society of Crop Science 1999 Korean journal of crop science Vol.44 No.4

Nine accessions of red rices collected from different regions were tested for germination characteristics in relation to seed maturity and several storage conditions after harvest. No red rice seeds germinated at five days after anthesis (DAA). Wanjuaengmi (long-grain red rice) seeds at 10DAA germinated up to 30% of total samples, producing only abnormal seedlings, whereas 10D-AA-seeds of normal cultivar showed only 3.3% germinability. Some red rice seeds absorbed more water than cultivated varieties, and showed less decrease in germination rate than cultivated varieties when seeds were exposed at -1, -5 or -1$0^{\circ}C$ for up to 60 hours after soaking. Red rice accessions maintained more than 95% germination when stored. indoor for 120 days. Two short-grain red rices showed about 50% germination when overwintered in the field, while other long-grain red rices and cultivated rices germinated less than 10%. Germination of seeds overwintered in clay loam soil was lower than that in loam soil, and seeds on surface germinated less than those in 1~7cm depth.
