Background: Glutathione-S-Transferase T1 (GSTT1) gene has been shown to be involved in the development of esophageal cancer. However, the results have been inconsistent. In this study, the authors performed a meta-analysis to clarify the association between GSTT1 polymorphism and esophageal cancer risk among Chinese Han population. Methods: Published literature from PubMed, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang Data were searched. Pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95%CI) was calculated using a fixed- or random-effects model. Results: Eleven studies with a total of 2779 individuals were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed that GSTT1 null genotype was significantly associated with esophageal cancer risk in Chinese (OR = 1.31, 95%CI 1.12 to 1.53, p = 0.001). Further sensitivity analyses confirmed the significant association. The cumulative meta-analysis showed a trend of an obvious association between GSTT1 null genotype and esophageal cancer risk as information accumulated by year. Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggests a significant association of GSTT1 null genotype with esophageal cancer risk in the Chinese Han population.

Abstract

The long-term development of a mobile booking taxi application service depends on the continued use of its passengers. The aim of this study is to investigate the determinants of the mobile taxi booking application service’s continuance intention, using the technology continuance theory by including the perceived risk and subjective norms. The data were collected by surveying 387 users of the mobile taxi application service. The data were analysed by applying the partial least squares technique. The analysis showed that the technology continuance theory has extensive power to explain the continuance intention to use the mobile booking taxi application. Subjective norms also have a significant effect on the attitude of mobile booking taxi application users which represents an important contribution to technology continuance theory extension. The theoretical and practical significances of the study have been discussed.

Highlights

The early acceptance of an MTB Apps does not guarantee continuation.

Studies on continuance intention of users toward MTB App use are still lacking.

Results will help App developers to grasp the factors that result in continued MTB App use.

Biosafety Risk Control Strategies in Laboratory Animal Research
Weng Shun-tai,Li Qu-wen,Gao Ya-dong,Qiu Yu-feng 한국산업안전보건공단 산업안전보건연구원 2024 Safety and health at work Vol.15 No.1
To understand biosafety's current situation in laboratory animal research and risk factors affecting occupational health. Compliance surveys were conducted by questionnaire via Questionnaire Star (an application app on the Internet) in Chinese. Thirty-nine anonymous questionnaires were collected. The surveyed institution has established 24 types of ABSL (Animal Biosafety Laboratory) and biosafety management organizations and systems equipped with safety equipment. Our study also suggests that the principal of the laboratory establishment fails to perform supervision and inspection responsibilities, the inappropriate design of the animal biosafety laboratory, non-standardized personnel training and health management, non-strict waste management, and insufficient emergency management. The administrative department and work units should address certain safety and occupational health risks in laboratory animal research. The author proposes control strategies based on organizational guarantee, personnel management, emergency management, etc., to help prevent risks and ensure occupational health. Due to regional limitations and small sample size, the results may not be generalisable to all parts of the world. However, some of the key common issues may also be present in other regions, so we believe that this research still has some relevance.

Direct EPR evidence of the photo-generation of superoxide radicals ( $O_2$$^{-.}$) was obtained by using spin trapping techniques in spinach photosystem II (PSII) membranes. $O_2$$^{-.}$ was detected by following the formation of 5-diethoxyphosphoryl-5-methyl-1 -pyrroline-N-oxide (DEPMPO) superoxide adducts, DEPMPO-OOH. The significant increase of the EPR signal amplitude of DEPMPO-OOH in N$H_2O$H-, CaC $l_2$- and NaCl-treated PSII membranes showed that the oxygen-evolving system has a close relation to the $O_2$$^{-.}$ production. PSII membranes with inactivated donor side could not prevent the $O_2$$^{-.}$ production efficiently. Treatments on PSII donor side also influence the maximum level and the kinetics of Chlorophyll (Chi) a fluorescence. Results suggested that manganese cluster and extrinsic proteins might affect Chi a fluorescence in ways different from that happens at the acceptor side of PSII.SII.SII.
Studies on the Optimum Models of the Dairy Product Kou Woan Lao Using Response Surface Methodology
Weng, Wei-Lien,Liu, Vi-Chung,Lin, Chin-Wen Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2001 Animal Bioscience Vol.14 No.10
Kou Woan Lao is an oriental-style dairy product, which is coagulated by milk-clotting enzyme from the culture filtrate of lao-chao. The product appears smooth, sweet, slightly wine flavour, and the flavour differs from yogurt. The aim of this study was to search for the optimum model to shorten the period of manufacture, and to improve the quality of Kou Woan Lao. A response surface design was used for studying the effects of addition of carrageenan, locust bean gum, and culture filtrate from lao-chao on the curd firmness, viscosity, and syneresis. Results indicated that the best rheological property, preservative quality and acceptability of Kou Woan Lao could be obtained by the combination of 0.22% carrageenan, 0.21 % locust bean gum and 12% culture filtrate from lao-chao. The curd firmness, viscosity and syneresis of resultant product were 29.3 g, 21,347.7 cps, and 8.92%, respectively and the microstructure of the curd revealed a relatively complete three-dimensional spider web-like structure.

Path following control of the automatic guided vehicle (AGV) for material handling in the plant requires a smooth and high-precision continuous attitude adjustment. However, there are many difficulties in designing the controller, such as actuator saturation, parameter selection, and the influence of deviations relations. In this paper, an improved model predictive control SCMPC-ST with a state classification model (SCM) and a smooth transition (ST) strategy is proposed to address these problems. First, based on the deviations relations and the actuator saturation, the SCM is designed to divide the pose states of AGV into three stages. With clearly objective functions and boundary constraints, SCM allows the pose states can be transferred sequentially, which avoids the problem of parameter selection. Second, use the analytical method to resolve SCM to directly obtain the desired control law, which provides excellent performance in real-time. Finally, the smooth transition strategy is built to adjust the control law at the transition step and overshoot step to ensure the stability of the control process. Simulation results show that by focusing on adjusting the deviations relations, SCMPC-ST can make AGV eliminate all deviations continuously and smoothly while maintaining high accuracy.

Liver cancer is one of leading digestive malignancies with high morbidity and mortality. There is an urgent need for the development of novel therapies for this deadly disease. It has been proven that asparagus polysaccharide, one of the most active derivates from the traditional medicine asparagus, possesses notable antitumor properties. However, little is known about the efficacy of asparagus polysaccharide as an adjuvant for liver cancer chemotherapy. Herein, we reported that asparagus polysaccharide and its embolic agent form, asparagus gum, significantly inhibited liver tumor growth with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) therapy in an orthotopic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumor model, while significantly inhibiting angiogenesis and promoting tumor cell apoptosis. Moreover, asparagine gelatinous possessed immunomodulatory functions and showed little toxicity to the host. These results highlight the chemotherapeutic potential of asparagus polysaccharide and warrant a future focus on development as novel chemotherapeutic agent for liver cancer TACE therapy.
