A Simplified Li-ion Battery SOC Estimating Method

Zhang, Xiaoqiang,Wang, Xiaocheng,Zhang, Weiping,Lei, Geyang The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2016 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.17 No.1

The ampere-hour integral method and the open circuit voltage method are integrated via the extended Kalman filter method so as to overcome insufficiencies of the ampere-hour integral method and the open circuit voltage method for estimating battery SOC. The process noise covariance and the measurement noise covariance of the extended Kalman filter method are simplified based on the Thevenin equivalent circuit model, with a proposed simplified SOC estimating method. Verification of DST experiments indicated that the battery SOC estimating method is simple and feasible, and the estimated SOC error is no larger than 2%.

A New Single-Stage Small Power MH lamp Electronic Ballast

Zhang, Xiaoqiang,Zhang, Weiping,Zhang, Mao The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2016 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.17 No.2

In this study, we proposed a new single-stage small power MH lamp electronic ballast and power-factor correction circuit with improved circuit by the current of passive power factor correction. Main circuit integrates traditional DC/DC and DC/AC circuits into one-stage DC/AC inverter. Moreover, we described the working principle and control strategy of the new circuit; it's soft switching principle; and resonant element parameter design formula. An experimental prototype of HID lamp electronic ballast with output power of 70 W was built to verify the feasibility of the analysis and design. The simulation and experimental results proved that the power factor of this circuit could reach 94%, with efficiency of 90%. The input current harmonics conform to IEC 61000-3-2 standards and its cost is low. These superior performances of the new circuit indicate certain practical values.

Fast Partial Shading Analysis of Large-scale Photovoltaic Arrays via Tearing Method

Zhang, Mao,Zhong, Sunan,Zhang, Weiping The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.5

Partial shading analysis of large-scale photovoltaic (PV) arrays has recently become a theoretically and numerically challenging issue, and it is necessary for PV system designers. The main contributions of this study are the following: 1) A PSIM-based macro-model was employed because it is remarkably fast, has high precision, and has no convergence issues. 2) Three types of equivalent macro-models were developed for the transformation of a small PV sub-array with uniform irradiance to a new macro-model. 3) On the basis of the proposed new macro-model, a tearing method was established, which can divide a large-scale PV array into several small sub-arrays to significantly improve the efficiency improvement of a simulation. 4) Three platforms, namely, PSIM, PSpice, and MATLAB, were applied to evaluate the proposed tearing method. The proposed models and methods were validated, and the value of this research was highlighted using an actual large-scale PV array with 2420 PV modules. Numerical simulation demonstrated that the tearing method can remarkably improve the simulation efficiency by approximately thousands of times, and the method obtained a precision of nearly 6.5%. It can provide a useful tool to design the optimal configuration of a PV array with a given shading pattern as much as possible.

Enhanced photocatalytic mechanism of Ag3PO4 nano-sheets using MS2 (M = Mo, W)/rGO hybrids as co-catalysts for 4-nitrophenol degradation in water

        Zhang, Weiping,Li, Guiying,Wang, Wanjun,Qin, Yaxin,An, Taicheng,Xiao, Xinyan,Choi, Wonyong Elsevier 2018 Applied Catalysis B Vol.232 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A chemically modified Ag3PO4@MS2(M = Mo, W)/rGO composite was firstly synthesized via a liquid-exfoliation solvothermal method. The structure, morphology, optical properties and composition were characterized by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. The characterization results indicated that compact structure could be obtained by using this typical method due to in-situ chemical modification, which could also control the sizes of Ag3PO4 nano-sheets by adding MS2/rGO hybrids. More importantly, the resultant Ag3PO4@MS2/rGO composite exhibited higher photocatalytic activity and stability toward the degradation of 4-nitrophenol than pure Ag3PO4 under sunlight irradiation. The stable structure of Ag3PO4@MS2/rGO was closely related with Z-scheme electronic structure and electrical conductivity of MS2/rGO hybrids, leading to a higher consumption and transfer of photogenerated electrons. However, by controlling the amounts of MS2/rGO hybrids, more stable but lower photocatalytic activity composites could be obtained. Further analysis found that the holes and O2 − were the main reactive species involved in the photocatalytic degradation of 4-nitrophenol. In addition, possible photocatalytic degradation pathways of 4-nitrophenol were also proposed based on the identified intermediates. The findings of this work may provide a new method to design efficient composites for photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Ag3PO4@MS2/rGO catalyst was fabricated via a liquid-exfoliation solvothermal method. </LI> <LI> Ag3PO4@MS2/rGO has high photocatalytic activity and stability under sunlight. </LI> <LI> The stability of Ag3PO4@MS2/rGO was due to its rapid transfer of photogenerated e−. </LI> <LI> h+ and O2 − were the main RSs in photocatalytic degradation of 4-nitrophenol. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

A Review of Li-ion Battery Equivalent Circuit Models

Zhang, Xiaoqiang,Zhang, Weiping,Lei, Geyang The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2016 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.17 No.6

Batteries are critical components of electric vehicles and energy storage systems. The connection of a battery to the power grid for charge and discharge greatly affects energy storage. Therefore, an accurate and easy-to-observe battery model should be established to achieve systematic design, simulation, and SOC (state of charge) estimations. In this review, several equivalent circuit models of representative significance are explained, and their respective advantages and disadvantages are compared to determine and outline their reasonable applications to Li-ion batteries. Numerous commonly used model parameter identification principles are summarized as well, and basic model verification methods are briefly introduced for the convenient use of such models.

Study on moisture transport in concrete in atmospheric environment

Weiping Zhang,Fei Tong,Xianglin Gu,Yunping Xi 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2015 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.16 No.5

Moisture transport in concrete in atmospheric environment was studied in this paper. Based on the simplified formula of the thickness of the adsorbed layer, the pore-size distribution function of cement paste was calculated utilizing the water adsorption isotherms. Taking into consideration of the hysteresis effect in cement paste, the moisture diffusivity of cement paste was obtained by the integration of the pore-size distribution. Concrete is regarded as a two-phase composite with cement paste and aggregate, neglecting the moisture diffusivity of aggregate, then moisture diffusivity of concrete was evaluated using the composite theory. Finally, numerical simulation of humidity response during both wetting and drying process was carried out by the finite difference method of partial differential equation for moisture transport, and the numerical results well capture the trend of the measured data.

Fundamental Small-signal Modeling of Li-ion Batteries and a Parameter Evaluation Using Levy's Method

Zhang, Xiaoqiang,Zhang, Mao,Zhang, Weiping The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2017 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.17 No.2

The fundamental small-signal modeling of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries and a parameter evaluation approach are investigated in this study to describe the dynamic behaviors of small signals accurately. The main contributions of the study are as follows. 1) The operational principle of the small signals of Li-ion batteries is revealed to prove that the sinusoidal voltage response of a Li-ion battery is a result of a sinusoidal current stimulation of an AC small signals. 2) Three small-signal measurement conditions, namely stability, causality, and linearity, are proved mathematically proven to ensure the validity of the frequency response of the experimental data. 3) Based on the internal structure and electrochemical operational mechanism of the battery, an AC small-signal model is established to depict its dynamic behaviors. 4) A classical least-squares curve fitting for experimental data, referred as Levy's method, are introduced and developed to identify small-signal model parameters. Experimental and simulation results show that the measured frequency response data fit well within reading accuracy of the simulated results; moreover, the small-signal parameters identified by Levy's method are remarkably close to the measured parameters. Although the fundamental and parameter evaluation approaches are discussed for Li-ion batteries, they are expected to be applicable for other batteries.

Effects of neutron irradiation on densities and elastic properties of aggregate-forming minerals in concrete

        Weiping Zhang,Hui Liu,Yong Zhou,Kaixing Liao,Ying Huang Korean Nuclear Society 2023 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.55 No.6

The aggregate-forming minerals in concrete undergo volume swelling and microstructure change under neutron irradiation, leading to degradation of physical and mechanical properties of the aggregates and concrete. A comprehensive investigation of volume change and elastic property variation of major aggregate-forming minerals is still lacking, so molecular dynamics simulations have been employed in this paper to improve the understanding of the degradation mechanisms. The results demonstrated that the densities of the selected aggregate-forming minerals of similar atomic structure and chemical composition vary in a similar trend with deposited energy due to the similar amorphization mechanism. The elastic tensors of all silicate minerals are almost isotropic after saturated irradiation, while those of irradiated carbonate minerals remain anisotropic. Moreover, the elastic modulus ratio versus density ratio of irradiated minerals is roughly following the density-modulus scaling relationship. These findings could further provide basis for predicting the volume and elastic properties of irradiated concrete aggregates in nuclear facilities.

A Novel Model of a Li-ion Battery Based on the Manufacturer's Datasheet

Zhang, Xiaoqiang,Zhang, Weiping,Zhang, Mao The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2017 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.18 No.5

A novel battery model based on the manufacturer datasheet is proposed. According to this model, not only the steady state but also the dynamic charging performance of the Li-ion battery can be analyzed and evaluated. The major advantage of our model is that all the parameters can be directly obtained from the datasheet and no additional experiments are required. Moreover, the transition between charge and discharge stages was analyzed based on our model, and a novel Simulink module was built to predict the energy consumption of a battery-powered system. Experiments were carried out to verify the model accuracy. Although the new model was developed for the Li-ion battery, it is expected to be applicable to other batteries.
