• Improved walking motion for a biped robot using piezoelectric ceramic sensors

Hiroyoshi Nakayama,Kajiro Watanabe 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8

The walking motion of a biped robot was improved through the use of piezoelectric ceramic sensors. Humans are able to walk stably on uneven ground by adjusting the ankle angle in response to tactile signals from the legs. To provide a similar capability for a biped robot, piezoelectric ceramic sensors were installed on the soles of the robot’ feet.

        Kim Jin-Man,Watanabe Hiroyoshi,You Hyung-Sook 대한관광경영학회 2009 觀光硏究 Vol.24 No.4

The challenges of hotel management in the 21st century are how to satisfy the ever-changing needs of consumers whilst maximizing business effectiveness by more efficient utilization of limited resources Simultaneously, the hotel industry has traditionally depended on human resources. However, the quota of labor costs within hotel management is high. Hence, one of the biggest challenges is how to maintain service levels whilst lowering labor costs. In this study, the investigation is to be conducted in four hotels room divisions using ABC analysis. The scope and object is to clarify the effectiveness of ABC analysis by finding out the visibility of services in the room division and gauging the service activity levels in units. Therefore, this study clarifies: 1. The visibility of services in the room divisions. 2. The applicability of Activity Based Costing analysis which enables the hotel industry to gauge the measure of services over a period of time. This includes not only labor costs but also indirect costs in the room divisions. Overall, this study finds out more accurate and detailed information about business hours and labor costs to show how effectively business hours should be reduced for cost reduction.

Experimental Analysis of Diffuser Rotating Stall in a Three-Stage Centrifugal Pump

Takamine, Taiki,Furukawa, Daichi,Watanabe, Satoshi,Watanabe, Hiroyoshi,Miyagawa, Kazuyoshi Korean Society for Fluid machinery 2018 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.11 No.1

Rotating stall phenomenon limits the operation range of turbomachines, therefore it is important to understand the crucial parameters of this phenomenon. In the present study, the diffuser rotating stall in a three-stage centrifugal pump was experimentally studied. Examined main parameter was an axial offset of rotor against the stationary part, which might be unavoidable due to accumulation of geometrical tolerances and assembling errors. The effect of leakage flow rate at the balance drum section employed as a thrust balancing device, which increases the thru-flow rate at the first and second stages diffusers, was also studied. The effect of rotor axial offset was clearly observed and, with the rotor axial offset to the suction side, the rotating stall appeared only at the third stage diffuser. By setting the balance flow rate set to zero, the onset range of rotating stall became wider in the first and second stage diffusers, which was well explained by the decrease of the thru-flow rate.

Vapor-Phase Ethylation of Biphenyl over MTW Zeolites

Mulla, Shafeek Abdul Rashid,Waghmode, Suresh B.,Watanabe, Seiji,Maekawa, Hiroyoshi,Komura, Kenichi,Kubota, Yoshihiro,Sugi, Yoshihiro,Kim, Jong-Ho,Seo, Gon The Chemical Society of Japan 2006 Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan Vol.79 No.9

Vapor-phase ethylation of biphenyl (BP) with ethanol over the MTW zeolites was examined by using a fixed-bed flow reactor, and compared to the catalyses over MOR and MFI zeolites. Two types of MTW zeolites: MTW-S (small crystal) and MTW-L (large crystal) were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The selectivity for 4,4′-diethylbiphenyl (4,4′-DEBP) over the MTW zeolites was the highest among the other zeolites, such as MOR and MFI. The catalytic activity of MTW-S was higher than MTW-L. The selectivities for 4,4′-DEBP at 300 °C were ca. 30% for MTW-S and ca. 22% for MTW-L among the DEBP isomers. The dealumination of the MTW zeolites enhanced the selectivity for 4,4′-DEBP although the catalytic activity was slightly decreased. In particular, the selectivity for 4,4′-DEBP over dealuminated MTW-L by steaming and subsequent refluxing in hydrochloric acid increased from 22 to 42% at 300 °C. The enhancement of the selectivity for 4,4′-DEBP is due to the decrease in non-selective reactions at external acid sites because these sites are removed by the dealumination. The selectivities are higher than those of equilibrium mixtures, and the slimmest isomer. 4,4′-DEBP is preferentially formed due to the steric interaction of reactants and products with acidic sites in the MTW channels. Molecular modeling on the diffusion of products in the MTW channel suggests that 4,4′-DEBP isomer can diffuse most easily among DEBP isomers. 4,4′-DEBP and other isomers easily diffuse inside MOR channel; however, they cannot in the MFI channels. These results show that the formation of 4,4′-DEBP is the most favorable due to the diffusion and the restriction of transition state in the MTW channels.

Influence of Axial Rotor Offset on Residual Axial Thrust Characteristics of a Centrifugal Pump at Low Flow Rates

Taiki Takamine,Shotaro Nakano,Satoshi Watanabe,Hiroyoshi Watanabe 한국유체기계학회 2020 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.13 No.4

In this study, experimental/numerical investigations on the effect of axial offset of rotor offset in a final stage model of a three-stage centrifugal pump are carried out. The axial offset is intentionally given to the shaft system to both of discharge/suction side. As a result, the axial thrust is significantly affected by the axial offset in the flow rate range below 50% of the design flow rate. From the flow field computed in CFD analysis, the flow mechanism induced by the axial offset leading to the change in the axial thrust is elucidated; the interaction between the back flow form the diffuser and the impeller exiting flow is affected by the axial offset, which are responsible for the change in the angular momentum brought into side gaps and therefore in the pressure distribution inside the side gaps.

Factor Structure of the Targeted Inventory on Problems in Schizophrenia

        Shoji Tanaka,Takanori Nagase,Takefumi Suzuki,Kensuke Nomura,Hiroyoshi Takeuchi,Shinichiro Nakajima,Hiroyuki Uchida,Gohei Yagi,Koichiro Watanabe,Masaru Mimura 대한정신약물학회 2013 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.11 No.1

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the factor structure of a novel, 10-item rating scale, the Targeted Inventory on Problems in Schizophrenia (TIP-Sz). Determining the factor structure will be useful in the brief evaluation of medication and non-medication treatment of the disease. Methods: An exploratory factor analysis was performed on TIP-Sz scores obtained from 100 patients who met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) criteria for schizophrenia. Results: The factor analysis extracted four factors that were deemed clinically pertinent, which we labeled: disorganization, social cooperativeness, functional capacity, and emotional state. The items exhibited cross-loadings on the first three factors (i.e.,some items loaded on more than one factor). In particular, the ‘behavioral dyscontrol and disorganization,’ ‘insight and reality testing,’ and ‘overall prognostic impression’ items had comparable cross-loadings on all of the first three factors. The emotional state factor was distinct from the other factors in that the items loading on it did not cross-load on other factors. Conclusion: The TIP-Sz scale comprises factors that are associated with the psychosocial functioning and emotional state of patients, which are important outcome parameters for successful treatment of the disease.
