Background and Purpose The aim of this study was to identify the clinical characteristics and potential mechanisms relevant to pathological proteins in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients who experience fatigue. Methods PD patients (n=102) were evaluated using a fatigue severity scale and scales for motor and nonmotor symptoms. The levels of three pathological proteins—α-synuclein oligomer, β-amyloid (Aβ)1-42, and tau—were measured in 102 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from these PD patients. Linear regression analyses were performed between fatigue score and the CSF levels of the above-listed pathological proteins in PD patients. Results The frequency of fatigue in the PD patients was 62.75%. The fatigue group had worse motor symptoms and anxiety, depression, and autonomic dysfunction. The CSF level of α-synuclein oligomer was higher and that of Aβ1-42 was lower in the fatigue group than in the non-fatigue group. In multiple linear regression analyses, fatigue severity was significantly and positively correlated with the α-synuclein oligomer level in the CSF of PD patients, after adjusting for confounders. Conclusions PD patients experience a high frequency of fatigue. PD patients with fatigue have worse motor and part nonmotor symptoms. Fatigue in PD patients is associated with an increased α-synuclein oligomer level in the CSF

This paper develops a moving-magnet electromagnetic actuator for fast steering mirror (FSM). The actuator achieves a reasonable compromise between voice coil actuator and piezoelectric actuator. The stroke of the actuator is between the strokes of a piezoelectric actuator and a voice coil actuator, and its force output is a linear function of air gap and excitation current within our FSM travel range. Additionally, the actuator is more reliable than voice coil actuator as the electrical connection in the actuator is static. Analytically modeling the actuator is difficult and time-consuming. Alternatively, numerous finite element simulations are carried out for the actuator analysis and design. According to the design results, a real prototype of the actuator is fabricated. An experimental test system is then built. Using the test system, the force output of the fabricated actuator is evaluated. The test results validate the actuator analysis and design.

This paper focuses on the modeling and analysis a novel two-axis rotary normal-stress electromagnetic actuator with compact structure for fast steering mirror (FSM). The actuator has high force density similar to a solenoid, but its torque output is nearly a linear function of both its driving current and rotation angle, showing that the actuator is ideal for FSM. In addition, the actuator is designed with a new cross topology armature and no additional axial force is generated when the actuator works. With flux leakage being involved in the actuator modeling properly, an accurate analytical model of the actuator, which shows the actuator’s linear characteristics, is obtained via the commonly used equivalent magnetic circuit method. Finally, numerical simulation is presented to validate the analytical actuator model. It is shown that the analytical results are in a good agreement with the simulation results.

To conduct the association between vitamin B12 and mental health in children and adolescents. Five databases were searched for observational studies in any language reporting on mental health and vitamin B12 levels or intake in children and adolescents from inception to March 18, 2022. Two authors independently extracted data and assessed study quality. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of data were performed. The review was registered in the PROSPERO database (CRD42022345476). Fifty six studies containing 37,932 participants were identified in the review. Vitamin B12 levels were lower in participants with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) (standardized mean difference [SMD], −1.61; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], −2.44 to −0.79; p < 0.001), attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (SMD, −0.39; 95% CI, −0.78 to −0.00; p = 0.049) compared with control group. Vitamin B12 intake were lower in participants with ASDs (SMD, −0.86; 95% CI, −1.48 to −0.24; p = 0.006) compared with control group, but showed no difference between depression group (SMD, −0.06; 95% CI, −0.15 to 0.03; p = 0.17) and the control group. Higher vitamin B12 intake were associated with lower risk of depression (odds ratio [OR], 0.79; 95% CI, 0.63−0.98; p = 0.034) and behavioral problems (OR, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.69−0.99; p = 0.04). The vast majority of included studies supported potential positive influence of vitamin B12 on mental health, and vitamin B12 deficiency may be a reversible cause for some mental health disorders in children and adolescents.

In order to enhance or produce stochastic resonance (SR), to obtain the required output response with specific properties, two bistable systems based on fractional over-damped Langevin equation are coupled into one multi-steady-state system via nonlinear method, one fractional bistable system where inherent parameters can be controlled is fed into the other system, the kinetic characteristics of the new coupled system is found much richer than each single fractional system. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation results show that the SR can be enhanced or produced by adjusting parameters as coupling coefficient, fractional system inherent parameters as well as the external periodical signal amplitude while another fractional system’s parameters fixed. The coupled system has high practical value, which provides a reliable theoretical basis for the control and its applications of artificially generated stochastic resonance.

WANG, Shengping,Yongjun, LI Xiuming, CHANG,YANG, Yuhui,YAO, Mei,WANG, Renzhi 대한금속재료학회(대한금속학회) 1996 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.2 No.2
The effects of shot peening on the three-point bending fatigue limit are described for LC9 aluminum alloy. Examination of the fatigue fracture surfaces revealed that the fatigue cracks were initiated under the hardened layer, depending upon the compressive residual stress (CRS) distribution. In this case, the local fatigue limit at the fatigue source is about 1.38 times of that of unstrengthened ones. An explanation is given with reference to the. concept of internal fatigue limit σ_(wi), which is regarded as the critical stress to initiate propagative fatigue microcrack in the interior of metal, and an intrinsic property of metal

Objective: Hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) differentiation is a critical physiological progress in skin hair follicle (HF) formation. Goat HFSCs differentiation is one of the essential processes of superior-quality brush hair (SQBH) synthesis. However, knowledge regarding the functions and roles of miR-133a-3p and miR-145-5p in differentiated goat HFSCs is limited. Methods: To examine the significance of chi-miR-133a-3p and chi-miR-145-5p in differentiated HFSCs, overexpression and knockdown experiments of miR-133a-3p and miR145-5p (Mimics and Inhibitors) separately or combined were performed. NANOG, SOX9, and stem cell differentiated markers (β-catenin, C-myc, Keratin 6 [KRT6]) expression levels were detected and analyzed by using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, western blotting, and immunofluorescence assays in differentiated goat HFSCs. Results: miR-133a-3p and miR-145-5p inhibit NANOG (a gene recognized in keeping and maintaining the totipotency of embryonic stem cells) expression and promote SOX9 (an important stem cell transcription factor) expression in differentiated stem cells. Functional studies showed that miR-133a-3p and miR-145-5p individually or together overexpression can facilitate goat HFSCs differentiation, whereas suppressing miR-133a-3p and miR-145- 5p or both inhibiting can inhibit goat HFSCs differentiation. Conclusion: These findings could more completely explain the modulatory function of miR-133a-3p and miR-145-5p in goat HFSCs growth, which also provide more understandings for further investigating goat hair follicle development.

Background and Purpose Previous studies suggested increased visit-to-visit variability of total cholesterol (TC) is associated with stroke. This study aimed to investigate the associations of various lipids measurements variability and the risk of stroke and stroke type (ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke). Methods Fifty-one thousand six hundred twenty participants in the Kailuan Study without history of myocardial infarction, stroke, and cancer who underwent three health examinations during 2006 to 2010 were followed for incident stroke. Variability in TC, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) measurements were measured using the coefficient of variation (CV), standard deviation (SD), variability independent of the mean (VIM), and average real variability (ARV). Results During a median of 6.04 years of follow-up, 1,189 incident stroke (1,036 ischemic and 160 hemorrhagic stroke) occurred. In the multivariable-adjusted model, the hazard ratio (HR) comparing participants in the highest versus lowest quartile of CV of HDL-C were 1.21 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.02 to 1.45; P for trend=0.013) for ischemic stroke. The highest quartile of CV of LDL-C was associated with 2.17-fold risk of hemorrhagic stroke (HR, 2.17; 95% CI, 1.25 to 3.75; P for trend=0.002) compared with the lowest quartile. We did not observe any significant association between TC and triglycerides variability with any of stroke. Consistent results were obtained when calculating variability index using SD, VIM, or ARV. Conclusions These findings suggest the high visit-to-visit HDL-C and LDL-C variability were associated with an increased incidence of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, respectively.
