      • O/W · W/O Emulsion의 Tribology 특성 연구

        이봉구,임웅빈,오성모 원광대학교 생산 및 자동화기술연구소 1995 생산.자동화기술연구소논문집 : 원광대 Vol.- No.2

We have been so much interested in the lubrication of emulsion property recently. In particular, O/W and W/O type emulsion have a good property to be used in the Lubricative situation of several services. Therefore, in this section we have studied about the lubricational characteristics in Neat Oil, O/W and W/O type emulsion using the Falex, wear test machine. The result is as follows. 1. In the case of O/W and W/O type emulsion, the beginning friction coefficient than Neat Oil, but it becomes more excellent as the time passes. especially, the W/O type becomes the more excellent. 2. As the load increase, a change in temperature shows to us be nearly similar and all of them, the O/W type is the most excellent in the temperature characteristic. 3. In the beginning, the anti-wear characteristic of emulsion lowers, but after the some load has stability, O/W and W/O type is excellent in order of anti-wear characteristic. 4. In the regular hours, a change in the emulsion becomes settled, so the character of temperature is superior. specially, O/W type is predominant. Therefore, the emulsion in case of the O/W and W/O type are more excellent than Neat oil in the thermal stability and can improve the characteristics of tribology.

      • Weight loss at the first month of palliative chemotherapy predicts survival outcomes in patients with advanced gastric cancer

        Ock, C. Y.,Oh, D. Y.,Lee, J.,Kim, T. Y.,Lee, K. H.,Han, S. W.,Im, S. A.,Kim, T. Y.,Bang, Y. J. Springer Science + Business Media 2016 Gastric cancer Vol.19 No.2

<P>Weight loss during chemotherapy is a significant prognostic factor for poor survival in patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC). However, in most studies, weight loss was measured at the end of chemotherapy, limiting its clinical use. In this study, we evaluated whether weight loss during the first month of chemotherapy could predict survival outcomes in patients with AGC. We analyzed 719 patients with metastatic or recurrent AGC who were receiving palliative chemotherapy. We calculated the initial body mass index (BMIi), percent weight loss after 1 month of chemotherapy (Delta W (1)m), percent weight loss after last administration of chemotherapy (Delta W (end)), and average weight loss per month during chemotherapy (Delta W/m). We correlated these data with overall survival (OS) by receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves and Kaplan-Meier curves, and performed a subgroup analysis using Cox regression. The probabilities of longer OS had stronger correlations with Delta W/m and Delta W (1)m than with Delta W (end) or BMIi. A significant positive correlation between Delta W (1)m and Delta W/m (r (2) = 0.591, p < 0.001) was observed. Median OS of patients with Delta W (1)m more than 3 % was significantly shorter than in patients with less weight loss (OS: 9.7 vs. 16.3 months, p < 0.001). Subgroup analysis revealed that Delta W (1)m accompanied poor survival irrespective of other clinical characteristics. Weight loss at the very first month of palliative chemotherapy could predict unfavorable survival outcomes in AGC.</P>

Long-term outdoor cultivation by perfusing spent medium for biodiesel production from Chlorella minutissima

        Oh, S.H.,Kwon, M.C.,Choi, W.Y.,Seo, Y.C.,Kim, G.B.,Kang, D.H.,Lee, S.Y.,Lee, H.Y. Society for Bioscience and Bioengineering, Japan ; 2010 Journal of bioscience and bioengineering Vol.110 No.2

A unique perfusion process was developed to maintain high concentrations of marine alga, Chlorella minutissima. This method is based on recycling cells by continuous feeding with warm spent sea water from nuclear power plants, which has very similar properties as sea water. A temperature of at least 30 oC in a 200 L photo-bioreactor was maintained in this system by perfusion of the thermal plume for 80 days in the coldest season. The maximum cell concentration and total lipid content was 8.3 g-dry wt./L and 23.2 %, w/w, respectively, under mixotrophic conditions. Lipid production was found to be due to a partially or non-growth related process, which implies that large amounts of biomass are needed for a high accumulation of lipids within the cells. At perfusion rates greater than 1.5 L/h, the temperature of the medium inside the reactor was around 30 oC, which was optimal for cell growth. For this system, a perfusion rate of 2.8 L/h was determined to be optimal for maintaining rapid cell growth and lipid production during outdoor cultivation. It was absolutely necessary to maintain the appropriate perfusion rate so that the medium temperature was optimal for cell growth. In addition, the lipids produced using this process were shown to be feasible for biodiesel production since the lipid composition of C. minutissima grown under these conditions consisted of 17 % (w/w) of C16 and 47% (w/w) of C18. The combined results of this study clearly demonstrated that the discharged energy of the thermal plume could be reused to cultivate marine alga by maintaining a relatively constant temperature in an outdoor photo-bioreactor without the need for supplying any extra energy, which could allow for cheap production of biodiesel from waste energy.

Magnetism in Ni-W textured substrates for coated conductors

        Song K. J.,Park Y. M.,Yang J. S.,Kim S. W.,Ko R. K.,Kim H. S.,Ha H. S,Oh S. S.,Park C.,Joo J. H.,Kim C. J. The Korea Institute of Applied Superconductivity a 2005 한국초전도저온공학회논문지 Vol.7 No.2

The magnetic properties of a series of both annealed (biaxially textured) and as-rolled (non-textured) Ni-xW alloy tapes with compositions x = 0,1,3, and 5 at.$\%$, were studied. Characterization methods included XRD analyses to investigate the biaxial cube texturing of the annealed Ni-W alloy tapes and studies of the magnetization M for both annealed and as-rolled Ni-W alloy tapes. Both the isothermal mass magnetizations M(H) of a series of samples at different fixed temperatures and M(T) in fixed field, employing a PPMS-9 (Quantum Design), were measured. The Ni-W alloys have shown much reduced ferromagnetism as W-content x increases. Both the saturation magnetization Msat and Curie temperature Tc decrease linearly with W-content x, and both Msat and Tc go to zero at critical concentration of Xc - 9.50 at. $\%$ W.

      • Effects of Cr and Nb addition on high-temperature tensile properties in austenitic cast steels used for turbo-charger application

        Jung, S.,Sohn, S.S.,Jo, Y.H.,Choi, W.M.,Lee, B.J.,Oh, Y.J.,Kim, G.Y.,Jang, S.,Lee, S. Elsevier Sequoia 2016 Materials science & engineering. properties, micro Vol.677 No.-

<P>In automotive turbo-chargers, excellent high-temperature properties are needed for retaining their structures at extremely high temperature of exhausted gas, and thus austenitic cast steels have been actively developed. In this study, high-temperature tensile properties of austenitic cast steels containing different W, Nb, and Cr were interpreted by deformation and fracture mechanisms related with carbides and austenite matrix. Replacement effects of W by Nb or Cr were also investigated because of expensive alloying cost of W. The high-temperature tensile test results revealed that the Cr-added steel containing many M7C3 carbides showed the higher strength than the Nb-added steel containing hard MC carbides. This was because the strength could be enhanced by distributing carbides having slightly lower hardness such as M7C3 carbides in the strengthened matrix as it could hold hard carbides, like in the Cr-added steel. The Cr-added steel (1 wt% W) also showed the higher strength and elongation at 900 degrees C than the basic-composition steel (2 wt% W), which indicated that the partly replacement of W by Cr was successfully achieved.

This study was conducted to develop Korean native pig-specific DNA markers and analyze its relativity with meat quality using 30 of Korean native pigs and Landraces, respectively. To find species-specific DNA markers, we selected and tested a total of 60 microsatellite markers on the 4 and 7 chromosome using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). PCR amplification was carried out by microsatellite primer pairs labeled with fluorescent Fam, Hex and Ned. The fluorescent labeled PCR products were electrophoresed with Genetic Analyzer ABI 310 followed by the allelic and statistical analysis. According to the allelic frequency annalysis, of the 60 microsatellite markers 27 were preduced with a variety of genetic polymorphic alleles (p<0.05). Especially, alleles of SW1364, SW445, SW1369 and SWR773 microsatellite markers were identified to be species-specific markers between two breeds (p<0.01). To analyze the meat quality we determined the meat color, fat color, fat composition, cholesterol contents and hardness, and compared these characteristics with the alleles of 36 species-specific markers in all pigs. Of the 60 microsatellite markers 28 were found to be related with meat quality; 18 for meat and fat color, 7 for fatty acid, 4 for cholesterol contents and 10 for shear force and hardness. These selected markers will be useful in the genetic improvement of pigs for an excellent meat quality.
