Facilitating Conditions in Adopting Big Data Analytics at Medical Aid Organizations in South Africa
VELA, Junior Vela,SUBRAMANIAM, Prabhakar Rontala,OFUSORI, Lizzy Oluwatoyin Korea Distribution Science Association 2022 The Journal of Industrial Distribution & Business( Vol.13 No.11
Purpose: This study measures the influence of facilitating conditions on employees' attitudes towards the adoption of big data analytics by selected medical aid organizations in Durban. In the health care sector, there are various sources of big data such as patients' medical records, medical examination results, and pharmacy prescriptions. Several organizations take the benefits of big data to improve their performance and productivity. Research design, data, and methodology: A survey research strategy was conducted on some selected medical aid organizations. A non-probability sampling and the purposive sampling technique were adopted in this study. The collected data was analysed using version 23 of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Results: the results show that the "facilitating conditions" have a positive influence on employees' attitudes in the adoption of big data analytics Conclusions: The findings of this study provide empirical and scientific contributions of the facilitating conditions issues regarding employee attitudes toward big data analytics adoption. The findings of this study will add to the body of knowledge in this field and raise awareness, which will spur further research, particularly in developing countries.
Differential regulation of hepcidin in cancer and noncancer tissues and its clinical implications
Driton Vela,Zana Vela-Gaxha 생화학분자생물학회 2018 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.50 No.-
Hepcidin is a crucial peptide for regulating cellular iron efflux. Because iron is essential for cell survival, especially for highly active cells, such as tumor cells, it is imperative to understand how tumor cells manipulate hepcidin expression for their own metabolic needs. Studies suggest that hepcidin expression and regulation in tumor cells show important differences in comparison with those in non-tumorous cells. These differences should be investigated to develop new strategies to fight cancer cells. Manipulating hepcidin expression to starve cancer cells for iron may prove to be a new therapy in the anticancer arsenal.

Due to their improved maneuverability in narrow spaces and increased stability, four-wheel independent mobile robots are becoming popular in several fields, such as agriculture, electrical vehicle, and planetary exploration. However, control algorithms are complicated owing to synchronization issues, mechanical constraints, and actuators equipped. This paper explores the kinematic model of a 4 wheel independent steering robot and make use of a Lyapunov controller and A-star planner for navigate a low velocity autonomous agricultural vehicle built on a 4 wheel independent steering configuration. The experiments were conducted in an even surface and the robot was equipped with incremental encoders for the driving motors and absolute encoders for the steering motors as well as a GPS TDR-3000 and a IMU LPMS-IG1 for navigation. Uneven terrains or obstacles were not considered for the experiments. The results show the capability of the controller to navigate the 4 wheel independent steering robot and reach the desired goals. In future, a local planner will be considered for obstacle avoidance and complex field experiments will be conducted in conditions of wheel slippage and low surface friction.
Rapid physicochemical characterization of innovative fucoidan/ fructan powders by ATR–FTIR
Gerardo Espinosa-Vela´zquez,Ana Mayela Ramos-de-la-Pen˜a,Julio Montanez,Juan Carlos Contreras-Esquivel 한국식품과학회 2018 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.27 No.2
Functional food has been highly demanded lately because of its benefits in counteracting diseases. Fucoidan and agave fructan are ingredients that enhance the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut (prebiotics). This mixture has great potential to develop innovative products but it has never been explored before. Because of fucoidan is more expensive than agave fructan, the innovative proposed mixture is vulnerable to adulteration. This research was aimed to assess the accuracy of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflectance (ATR–FTIR) coupled with chemometrics to identify and predict concentration of both polysaccharides in powder mixtures (0–100%). Absorption bands at 1240–1255 and 836–840 cm-1 were attributed to fucoidan and a strong peak at * 936 cm-1 confirmed the fructan presence. Peak areas were best fitted into linear models (R2 adj C 0.92, RMSE B 3.54%). This achievement may be useful to certificate ingredients contained in fucoidan– fructan mixtures, preventing adulteration.

This paper presents a new model to obtain the minimum area of the contact surface for rectangular isolated footings, considering that the contact surface works partially to compression (a part of the contact surface of the footing is subjected to compression and the other is not in compression or tension). The methodology is developed by integration to obtain the axial load “P”, moment around the X axis “Mx” and moment around the Y axis “My”. This document presents the simplified and precise equations of the four possible cases of footing subjected to uniaxial bending and five possible cases of footing subjected to biaxial bending. The current model considers the contact area of the footing that works totally in compression, and other models consider the contact area that works partially under compression and these are developed by very complex iterative processes. Numerical examples are presented to obtain the minimum area of rectangular footings under an axial load and moments in two directions, and the results are compared with those of other authors. The results show that the new model presents smaller areas than the other authors presented.

However, control algorithms is complicated owing to synchronization issues, mechanical constraints, and actuators equipped. This study presents a navigation controller based on fuzzy logic method for a low velocity autonomous agricultural vehicle built on a 4 wheel independent steering configuration. This paper explores the kinematic model of a 4 wheel independent steering robot and then real time 3D simulations using ROS and Gazebo. In the simulations, virtual GPS and IMU were used as sensors. Uneven terrains or obstacles were not considered for the simulated experiments. The simulation results show the capability of the fuzzy-logic controller in controlling a 4 wheel independent steering robot. In future, the simulated experiments will be compared with field experiments. Futhermore, the field experiments will be conducted in the condition of wheel slippage and low surface friction.
