        May-Thurner Syndrome Complicated by Acute Iliofemoral Vein Thrombosis: Helical CT Venography for Evaluation of Long-Term Stent Patency and Changes in the Iliac Vein.

        <P>OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to use CT venography to evaluate long-term patency and changes in the iliac veins after stent placement for acute iliofemoral vein thrombosis due to May-Thurner syndrome. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From December 1999 to July 2007, 30 patients (22 women, eight men; age range, 30-78 years; mean, 56.7 years) with acute iliofemoral vein thrombosis due to May-Thurner syndrome diagnosed with CT venography were treated with catheter-directed thrombolysis and stent placement. The patients underwent follow-up CT venography at variable intervals according to clinician discretion. The primary objective was to determine the primary patency of the stented segment. The secondary objective was to investigate the potential role of CT venography by analyzing the morphologic features and interval changes in stented iliac veins. Cumulative primary and secondary stent patency rates were calculated by Kaplan-Meier estimation. RESULTS: Four stent occlusions and one stent collapse were found at the first follow-up CT venographic examination within 1 year (mean duration, 129.3 days) after treatment. One stent occlusion and one stent collapse were managed successfully. The primary and secondary patency rates were 83.3% and 90% 1 and 5 years after treatment. The morphologic features of the common iliac vein did not affect stent patency or expanded stent diameter. During sequential CT venographic follow-up, no new in-stent stenosis or occlusion was found. CONCLUSION: Iliac stents placed for May-Thurner syndrome with acute thrombosis had excellent long-term patency. Restenosis or occlusion occurred early, and initial luminal patency was well maintained during long-term follow-up.</P>

        회계투명성과 가치경영

        IMF 외환위기의 주요 원인으로 기업지배구조 문제가 지적되면서 개선을 요구하는 사회적 분위기가 고조되고 있다. 이에 기업들은 지배구조개선의 필요성을 인식하고 개선을 위한 여러 제도적 장치를 도입하여 적용하고 있다. 기업지배구조 개선을 위한 제도적 장치 중에서도 소수주주의 권리보호를 위한 집중투표제도와 이사회 제도의 개선을 위한 사외이사제도가 가장 대표적이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 IMF 외환위기 이후 지배구조 개선의 일환으로 시행된 집중투표제도와 사외이사제도가 회계투명성 강화와 기업가치 향상에 공헌했는가를 실증 분석한다. 이들 제도의 도입 취지는 최대주주의 전횡을 사전에 방지하고, 소수주주의 권리를 보호하며, 경영자를 감시함으로써 경영투명성과 회계투명성을 제고시키는데 있다. 그렇다면 과연, 집중투표제도와 사외이사제도가 기업지배구조개선에 어떠한 영향으로 작용하며, 결국 회계투명성과 기업가치에 긍정적인 영향력을 행사하는지에 대한 의문이 제기된다. 이에 본 연구는 2002년부터 2004년까지 한국신용평가(주)의 KIS-VALUE 데이터베이스에 수록된 상장기업을 대상으로 이들 제도의 실효성을 검증하고자 한다. 주요 분석결과를 살펴보면, 집중투표제도를 도입한 기업일수록, 사외이사비율이 높은 기업일수록 회계투명성과 기업가치가 그렇지 않은 기업보다 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 이 같은 결과는 집중투표제도의 경우 이사 선출시 지배주주의 전횡을 막고 경영자를 감시하는 역할을 수행함으로써 회계투명성과 기업가치를 향상시키는데 영향을 미치며, 또한 사외이사제도는 기업 내부지배 메카니즘으로서 경영자 본연의 역할을 수행하게 하고, 경영자에 대한 감시와 책임 역할을 수행함으로써 회계투명성과 기업가치를 향상시키는데 공헌한다고 할 수 있다. This paper investigates the role of cumulative voting and outside director system in the corporate governance of listed firms in korea.O ur sample is composed of companies listed in korea stock exchange between 2002 and 2004, excluding financial institutions. The cumulative voting and outside director system data were collected from the KIND-SYSTEM and other finance related variables were from KIS-VALUE. Empirical tests show that accounting transparency and business value of the companies with the cumulative voting system were higher than those of the companies without the cumulative voting system. And the higher the ratio of outside director is, the higher an accounting transparency and/or business value is. Such results may imply that corporate governance mechanism such as cumulative voting and outside director system contributes to an accounting transparency and business value.

        흰쥐 뇌에서 전기경련 충격에 의한 CREB 인산화의 발달단계에 따른 변화

        연구목적 : 이 논문에서는 뇌에서 전기경련 충격(Electroconvulsive shock. ECS)에 의한 전사인자 CREB의 인산화를 발달단계에 따라 알아봄으로써 정신장애의 신경발달학적 이해를 위한 생물학적 기반지식을 얻고자 하였다. 방 법 : 생후 7. 14. 21일 및 성년 흰쥐에 ECS를 가하고 시간별로 해마 및 소뇌 조직을 얻어 CREB의 인산화를 알아보기 위해 특이 항체로 면역블롯을 실시하였다. 결 과 : 발달단계에 따라 해마에서는 CREB이 감소한 반면 소뇌에서는 CREB이 증가하였다. 기저상태의 CREB 인산화는 해마와 소뇌에서 생후 7일에 비해 14일 이후 증가하였는데, 소뇌의 경우 CREB의 양증가와 비례하였다. ECS 후 CREB인산화 증가는 해마에서는 생후 21일 이후에 나타났으나, 소뇌에서는 생후 7일은 물론 성년에서도 나타나지 않았다. 결 론 : CREB 매개 신호전달은 발달단계별 및 조직별 활성의 차이를 나타내었으며 해마에서는 생후 21일 이후 ECS에 의해 활성화되었지만, 소뇌에서는 그렇지 않았다. 해마에서 ECS에 의한 CREB 인산화 증가는 c-fos 유전자의 발현과 관계있으리라고 생각되지만, CREB의 Ser-133 인산화 만으로는 발달단계 및 조직에 따른 c-fos 발현의 특이성을 설명할 수 없었다. Objectives : In order to understand the biological basis of neurodevelopmental perspectives of mental disorders, the authors investigated the developmental and regional changes in the phosphorylation of the transcription factor CREB following the electroconvulsive shock(ECS) in rat brain. Methods : Rats of various age groups(7, 14, 21 days postnatal and adults) were given ECS and their hippocampi and cerebella were dissected at specified time points. The content of CREB and phosphorylated CREB were measured by immunoblot analysis. Results : The amount of CREB increased in the hippocampus and decreased in the cerebellum according to the age. Baseline levels of CREB phosphorylation in both tissues were increased from postnatal 14 days, and it was proportional to the amount of CREB protein in the cerebellum. In the hippocampus, ECS increased the phosphorylation of CREB at postnatal 21 days, but in the cerebellum, ECS did not increased the phosphorylation of CREB in any age group. Conclusion : CREB mediated signal transduction pathways showed developmental and tissue-specific changes. ECS increased the phosphorylation of CREB in the hippocampus by postnatal 21 days, but not in the cerebellum. CREB activation is supposed to be related with the induction of c-fos after ECS in the hippocampus. However, the Ser-133 phosphorylation of CREB could not completely explain the developmental and tissue specificity of c-fos induction.

      • A Simple Method for Performance Analysis of Reed-Solomon Codes over Memoryless Channel

        In this paper we investigate the bit error probability of nonbinary block codes, called Reed-Solomon codes, when they are used for error correction over the memoryless channel with cross-over probability p. First, we derive a general formula of the error correction probability for nonbinary block codes using the weight function of MDS (Maximum Distance Separable) codes. Then because the numerical approach for the derived formula assumed the UDSC (Uniform Discrete Symmetric Channel), the weight function of MDS codes is used for adjustment of the BER (Bit Error Rate) and SER (Symbol Error Rate). But, because the weights of the Reed-Solomon code are very large, the computation of them is almost impossible. Therefore, we propose a new approach using relations of the number of syndrome and arbitrary distribution to obtain the BER performance. Then the BER performance of our numerical approach is similar to simulation results.

      • Purge & Trap-GC/MS 에 의한 금호강 수계의 휘발성 유기물 분석

        Improved sample introduction system has been investigated for the determination of 54 volatile organic compounds(VOC) in the Kumho river using purge & trap preconcentration apparatus and capillary gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. To solve the problems such as improper separation of peaks due to the adsorption of water and contamination of purge & trap system, the purge & trap apparatus was directly connected to the gas chromatograph. A carbopack B/car6oxen 1000 and 1001 trap were used for the purge & trap procedure and a custom made dimethyldiphenylpolysiloxane crosslinking moiety capillary column was used for the separation of compounds. The optimum analytical conditions were investigated and the method detection limits for the 54 VOC were obtained using these conditions. The present method was applied to the analysis of samples collected from 13 sites of the Kumho river. Among the 54 VOCs only dichloromethane, trichloromethane. trichloroethene. toluene, xylene and naphthalene were detected.

      • 액체-액체 추출법을 이용한 유기염소제 및 유기인제 농약 분석

        Methods to determine 18 organic chlorinated and 7 organic phosphorous pesticides simultaneously by gas chromatography(GC) using liquid-liquid extraction pretreatment method have been investigated. Methylene chlroride was used for the extraction solvent. The GC column used was a DB-5 and detectors used were an electron capture detector and a flame photometric detector for organic chlorinated pesticides and organic phosphorous pesticides, respectively. Two types of liquid-liquid extraction method have been applied. The first method involves separate stages for extraction and concentration and the second one(continuous liquid-liquid extraction method) uses one stage for extraction and concentration procedures. For the first method, recovery, relative standard deviation of 7 repeated determinations and method detection limit were 68-92 %, 3.5-7.4 % and 0.7-2.9 a g/L, respectively for the organic chlorinated pesticides, and 66-92 %, 6.6-15.4 and 3.2-10.7 ug/L, respectively for the organic phosphorous pesticides. For the second method, the optimum number of extraction recycling were found to be 9. The recovery, relative standard deviation and method detection limit were 71-102 %, 6.0-11.4 and 0.5-0.9 sg/L, respectively for the organic chlorinated pesticides, and 71-97 , 3.5-5.9 % and 1.1-2.9 a g/L, respectively for the organic phosphorous pesticides. The linear concentration range in calibration curve for the continuous liquid-liquid extraction method was also found to be wider compared with that for the former extraction method.
